New Call Sign

Well, in 3 days of flying I have heard controllers make about 100 errors. Most recently, Washington center controller said on the air that he "heard it was being changed back"...(direct quote)

I don't know if true...but I'm sure they are sending event notices every time they screw it up just to cover themselves if something bad happens.

I have listened to Philadelphia ATC since the switch off and on. What's shocking is that it's the air traffic controllers making the most mistakes.

They keep calling out "USAIR" and the pilots are responding "Cactus" and the controllers are saying "uh, yes, correction, CACTUS!"

Want to talk about wasted airtime. I'm hearing the word "Correction" at least once every 5 minutes.

I also heard a Cact-you-ess.

What would be shocking is if this management gang had actually pulled off a project without any snafus.

The fact that the tape says US but they should call the flight "cactus" could be considered a safety issue.

The "strips" should have been changed as well This is just plain, flat-out-stupid as it is. While it's no big deal for pilots, I'd imagine it's a lot tougher for the controllers to see one thing for so long, still see it on the strips, and have to substitute another name, given how many calls and responses those folks have to constantly make.

Who cares what your called. Most of you can barely tuck in your shirts. I can see both sides of the fence and for the lot of you, sitting around on those pickets fences just a little too long. You lived in that little white castle, now get over it. YOU barely had the back bone to drag in another union and I hear the dudes that were on the fence trying to bend the ears of the new reps. Try getting to a point that really matters and if that can not happen get some nose clippers ,haircut and walk the blvd ' X pilot needs work".' BIG panty kids

What is this thing that's what we call Now you can simply enter their shirts.I to see both sides of the wall, and many of you are sitting on fence posts, a little too long. He lived in a small white passed by the town. Another bone of about a union, and I have heard that there are dudes on the fence to turn the representatives of the young ears. An issue that the country try, and if possible, a nose clipper, hairdressers and after boul \ "X-pilot." Hinges of the older children

Please refrain from approaching the keyboard after smoking whatever it is you've been smoking. This makes zero sense whatsoever.

Can I have a hit off your bong? <_<

Other thing I've noticed, is there seems to be a habit of some flights to not answer to USair at all. Either not listening or not liking to be called such name. Have heard a few controllers have words with the crew, after 8 calls go unanswered. Now that's a waste of time. Why not simply correct them, and answer back cactus. Like guys have said, the controllers are looking at strips saying US and pavlov says to say USair.......help 'em out.

This whole thing sounds like it has been a huge debacle. This all stems from a really stupid decision by a certain V.P. (you know who). This has caused a tremendous amount of confusion, and it directly affects SAFETY. It is also an embarrassment to the company and its pilots. All this was done to try to appease a few pilots who wanted to try to keep an America West regional identity. When Piedmont merged with US, did they keep the regional sounding call sign? How about PSA or the Trump Shuttle? The answers are all no. US Airways is a major international airline, and using the CACTUS call sign is just plain stupid. Management needs to step in and change it back NOW; or must we wait for some violations roll in, or safety to be seriously compromised? Or, if that is not possible, change the controllers' strips to read something other than US.

Seems pretty lucid, to me. Baja is holding up a mirror for you. Enjoy the view?

Just an example we thought about the other day. Taxing out in PHL, it seems a SW plane mistook his taxi instructions, and the ground controller started yelling at him "Southwest xxx, Southwest xxx HOLD POSTION, HOLD Position" Anyways you get the idea. Turns out that instead of heading down taxiway to hold short 27R, Southwest was about to cross 35 and there was an RJ touching down at that moment.

Now think for a minute. Controller has a strip that says US, Looks outside and sees a big white Airplane that says USAirways on it, about to go onto a runway with a plane landing on it. What's his stress reaction going to be???? Cactus XXX or USair XXX. And if guys continue to ignore any reference to USair XXX and wait for controller to call them by proper name of Cactus, What do we see happening here. Was similar situation with the crew we heard get admonished for not answering for the misspoken USair Call sign on center. As Controllers voice was getting higher pitched with each call (think it was about 5 or 6) But basically he needed them to turn for a traffic conflict. They finally gave in and answered with the correct "Cactus" call sign, and Yes the controller should be to blame for not using the correct call sign, but that doesn't help when your a smoking hole in the ground I guess........

Your right it needs to be changed back. But I know the only way it will is if the company can make money by changing it back
