I think maybe openview means the "price" of tickets. In that the internet has promoted a new, higher level of price competition through market transparency. Well, at least thats how I read it.
Yeah, I think that's what he meant. Thus far, the evidence is inconclusive at best.

I've been in the software industry, covering technical sales, marketing, and software design, mostly with a focus in online financial services.

Oh great. How does he get by then. His wife only makes like $10 an hour he stated. Maybe family gives him money.

Thats exactly what I meant. The days of $4000 westcoast walkup roundtrips are over and all the extra revenue it infused into Uair. So mature airlines are forced to adapt, to become effecient or bust. Newer carriers have the advantage at the lower revenue yields

If you have "been" in it what do you do now?

It must be tough then struggling on your wife's income. Best wishes to you.
Thanks. Could be much worse. I managed to put together enough savings to weather this, in part because I saw the writing on the wall in late 1999. But it still is, shall we say, suboptimal.

FWIW, it's not all a sob-story. She's making as little as she is because she's gaining hands-on experience in a new career field. There's much hope for her future income as well. ;)

Sounds like a good plan.

mweiss states: Really? So, if it's not the market and business, what is it?

Mwiess,

It a strategic, well-thought out plan to bust unions from here to kingdom.

come.

And if you scratch this premise as just a rediculous "conspiracy theory", then what happened and is happening at U should not occur to the rest of the industries in the market place that has unions.

I wrote out two years ago to management the "Domino Effect" that what happens here at U will happen to United, American, Delta, NW, CO, and permeate to other industreis. Well, 3 months after I wrote it, United went into BK with the exact same plan, new CEO, threat of liquidation etc, then American and Delta burned through their cash, AA threatened BK, and still does. Delta is screaming as well and NW. I wrote this out in Feb. of 2003 called the "Domino Effect" on these boards and wrote it out before than to another group of union leaders and managment in Sept. of 2002.

Look at other unions like Verizon, and those unionized workers who start approaching their amendable contract dates.

All companies will attempt to rid themselves of the liabilities of defined pensions any way they can specifically with unionized groups. Why? Because they now can. They know the psyche of unionized workers and know you can do much by threatening their jobs and BK threats.

Don't forget, we have a Republican admin. House and Senate. They love when labor is at their knees, because corporation raiders and the wealthy can sieze the moment to become more wealthy on the American workers back.

And this is the climate set-up to do it.

His wife only makes $10 an hour.

Well be thankful the wife is even able to work or that there is a wife to make $10 an hour. Not everyone has that luxury.

Yup. Not going to happen to me, but it is certainly happening. Generic MBAs have become a dime a dozen.
