Labor And Management

usfliboi, no offense, but I don't think a flight attendant is qualified to comment on what the mechanics should or should not being doing. Nor do I think a pilot should be commenting on what the mechanics should or should not be doing. Everybody's profession is worth something. If you don't do the job or have any idea what goes into the job, then you have no right to comment on it. That's just my personal take on things. Those that continue to attack a work group should rightfully expect some harsh feedback. Furthermore, I don't think heated commentary should be censored. It's all about balance. You may not like what the other person has to say, but people have a right to defend their profession as long as it is reasonable.

Here's how the mechanics, and I suspect PITbull sees it.

After giving a quarter of our substance, away from our familys, and to management; And giving them a year to utilize this substance, we:

Don't see the computer system any better implemented.

Don't see any more advertising.

Don't see a better product for us to offer our customers

Our customers have to endure a worse product, that we, have to work harder to make up for.

We have to do more with less.

So what we the employees see is this. We, who have worked at this service to society for decades, gave a quarter of our substance to help this service to society survive. The money that we gave to "save the company" is instead going into the pockets of "the management team of the week". For the sole purpose of enriching their familys already extravagant lifestyle.

We have now been told that it is not enough, and that we need to give more. We know, in our hearts, based on past practice, that this money will not go into making our "product" more desireable or effecient. We "know" that this money will only go into the pockets of those who have proved themselves to be the leeches of America's infra-structure.

Therefore this is how we view our choices:

We give more concessions---------------------------------We refuse to give more

The company closes and goes bankrupt ---------------The company closes and goes bankrupt.

The Stockholders lose all equity--------------------------The Stockholders lose all equity.

The employees have to find new jobs-------------------The employees have to find new jobs.

We find ourselves a couple of more thousands -------We have less debt.
of dollars in debt.

The Robber Barons are encouraged, and move-------The Robber Barons get their nose bloodied.
on to their next prey.

Actually we understand business and the market. We also know that the market and business has nothing to do with what's going on here!

Service to society! Like pubic service? A goverment office? Last time I looked UAir, like jblue or McDonalds or BestBuy is a publicly traded, free market enterprise challenged with and vulnerable to the conditions of competition.
Actually we understand business and the market. We also know that the market and business has nothing to do with what's going on here!

The market and business has everything to do with it! The internet-which isn't going away- has forever changed this industry and the cost of tickets and the revenue that can be generated and spread throughout the company and employes. So if you are a mech. say and you and only you get to change that lightbulb on the jetway because its always been in our contract scope and the company can fold before I'll negotatite any concession, then "the market"- read competition with adjust it for you. Whether that means outsourcing, eliminating, reduction, or jblue.

"So if you are a mech. say and you and only you get to change that lightbulb on the jetway because its always been in our contract scope and the company can fold before I'll negotatite any concession..."

did you mean "...before I'll negotatite a third round of concessions.."?

If I were an IAM member I would contact my local union officials and advise them to negotiate with the company. Now is the time to strike a deal on the outsourcing issue. As one poster stated on this board recently, there could be consequences for this group if they do not agree to work rule changes and permit the company to keep the maintenance in-house versus outsourcing the work.
funny mr truth...seems like the same banter from usa320pilot.....
are you decieving us?

usfliboi,

I know more Mechanics than you and you are wrong.

P.S.- This is the end of the rope for me. No more concessions.

My job requires that I work with many different mechanics, many. I have met ONLY two and even posted about it as a topic. Those two mechanics said they would be willing to give, IF, they were guaranteed their jobs.

It seems hard for people to believe the mechanics have reached and in fact are beyond our collective limits. Dave will find a stonewall staring at him, we will not budge and he has made sure of that fact with his own actions. If he were smart, he would take his grace exit and leave with his blood money. He sealed his own fate in the hearts and minds of the IAM when he decided to let Jerry Glass work his evil.

Ibelieve that every one has to give in and the times are hard. And when I say every one, I am not singeling out any single group.

I have said it before the management has to give up too.

Here are some ideas of who makes how much:

David Siegel $3.80M
Neal Cohen $1.43M

What would it be for Siegel to give up $2.5M and Cohen $0.43M. That would help and convince others to give up too.

And I don't believe that a Union owns anything. The employees have a right to do the job and they should be next to PAX on top of the list every management has to think about. I don't think that the shareholders should be the first consideration, because without PAX and employees ther is no airline.

And the employees should respect each other. You might have not the technical expertise to do each others jobs, but you all belong to the same family and with out each other you are unemployed!

You forget that there's a third option:

You find another job and leave US Airways
The company closes and goes bankrupt
The stockholders lose all equity
The employees already have new jobs!
You don't add any debt
The "robber barons" end up the same regardless.

Sounds like the best of the three options, doesn't it?

Actually we understand business and the market. We also know that the market and business has nothing to do with what's going on here!
Really? So, if it's not the market and business, what is it?

The Internet has almost nothing to do with it, with the exception of reducing the number of TAs.

I think maybe openview means the "price" of tickets. In that the internet has promoted a new, higher level of price competition through market transparency. Well, at least thats how I read it.

Thank you so much mweiss for your concern even though you have no stake here it is heartening. I still say let it ride out. If the doors close so be it. I will find a better job.
