IAM Stepping Up campaign

from the article:

Unions aren't a "thing of the past."

can you tell us the current private sector union membership rate in the US as a percent of US workers?

So funny this discussion is about what unions and the broader labor movement have accomplished and not what value the IAM specifically can provide to DL employees. Unions have advocated for things like fair labor standards, OSHA, FMLA that directly benefit the unorganized who now enjoy these protections by law rather than through the collective bargaining process. Unions have facilitated their own demise and this is only one example.

New hires do not really understand unions and at least for the moment are happy and excited to have the job in their minds flying all over and adventure seeking. Too bad it's not like the old days (Industry wide) where the layovers allow for them to take advantage of seeing all these cities.

At Delta, they don't usually hire (inflight) very young and no prior job experience.  Many have been with other airlines, many have already had successful career's in other fields.  not all young and dumb.  Also at Delta and the way our bidding/A-day system is set up, many or most can have already been experiencing great international layovers.  It's NOT like it was when I was hired. It is a much better quality of life from years ago.  They have it pretty good.

You have to agree though that DL employees enjoy the benefits and perks they do because the industry is so heavily unionized that it's basically a "Rub Off" to try and keep unions out and maintain operational control.

I've pretty much covered why I prefer to be Unionized but for you guys it's your decision to make. Mine is also a little bit of prior experiance with 2 large companies that did not have a union before I started at AA that make me an advocate for them.

Delta Flight Attendants yesterday were noticeably visible both inside and out at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Delta Flight Attendants greeted their co-workers as they arrived and departed the airport and in the crew lounges.

“We received overwhelming support, especially from the new hires here in Atlanta,” said Adam Denissoff, IAM NEXT Coordinator. “We even ran out of literature because the newest Delta Flight Attendants were very interested in the IAM Delta campaign and the benefits of union representation. It’s a nice feeling when you have to go back to he IAM Delta Atlanta office to refill supplies.”

Delta Flight Attendant Adam Denissoff and LOD Masayo Tyner work the IAM Delta campaign in Atlanta.

IAM NEXT is a part of IAM DELTA that communicates with and welcomes the more junior Delta Flight Attendants into the IAM Delta campaign.

"The more we're visible and communicating with our Flight Attendant co-workers here in Atlanta, the more support we build," continued Denissoff.

I've worked at both, and in my experience, being represented is the far more preferrable option.
They asked us to "give [us] a chance," and we did. It didn't work.
How hasn't it worked?

You still willingly show up for work at DL and there aren't chains on your feet.

The typical anti-union response, yet you say a union is imposed on CO FAs, which we know is a lie, but hey it you, what else would we expect from you is lies and misinformation.

I don"t see myself as a prisoner, slave, or a victim. Neither do any of the career minded professionals I work with.
But then explain why when you willingly work for an unorganized employer it's okay to go on and on about how it's unjust and you feel you need a union. But when someone who doesn't want representation is at an employer that later becomes organized you and 700 say "become a dues objector and only pay what is germane to the CBA, the majority voted for the union". Hypocrisy at its finest.

So you think he should just quit his job rather than try to seek improvements? The man to me sounds like he loves his job? He just thinks it could be even better and organization is where he knows those improvements will come from.

My point is that he hasn't quit and nothing is stoping him from doing so. Kev is a smart guy, I'm sure he could find a good job outside DL but he keeps beating this drum about representation since the 2010 decertification.
