It seems as of lately that many of the USAir posters are screaming date of hire or DOH for this merger between a much younger company--America West, and a much older company--USAirways. Lets get everything straight.

1. Seniority integration is up to the unions and eventually arbittration, not individuals.
2. When all is said and done everyone will have more than one seniority date. There will be occupational seniority, company seniority, etc.
3. DOH is not a guarantee for anyone.
4. System protection does not guarantee a job anymore .
5. If there were to be layoffs as a result of this merger, everyone would be affected.
6. Lets all hope this merger can be done right as to not adversly affect anyone--AWA and USAir people both.

the DOH is because 90% of everyone over here on our side is "not" USAir. They're Piedmont, PSA, Allegheny, Mohawk, North Central, etc. Every merger has been DOH for these guys... hence the Mohawk-Allegheny merger provisions.

And after watching fellow career airline employees at TWA get F'd by AA, they are now even MORE protective over the DOH as TWA employees were pretty much fenced then stapled.. and we know how many TWA employees are left! I can probably count them on one hand.

This is becoming a very HOT issue for no reason. Our companies will succeed! Why does everyone think that the entire FA and Pilot lines will abandon our PHL hubs and have this 'mass' exodus to your PHX base? Sorry.. most of our guys have alwyas been East Coasters..... you may get a few ex-PSA folks want PHX flying, then so be it, just as there may be some PHX/LAS guys who want to move east (hey, CLT is a very nice base!).

Not everyone is going to come out happy, but we will be coming into this merger with something *none* of us had before:

a bit more job security

Yeah, let's get it straight. Go to the afa website and look up bylaws. You are a mechanic and not a f/a and our bylaws state DOH...PERIOD!! Any attempt to change that will SINK the new US Airways. I will promise you that.

As far as I know via the bylaws DOH is garanteed to me if two afa carriers are to merge. I mean why have a union at all if they can change these things whenever they want. If by some chance DOH is not used then I see no need for a fence around PHX. Everyone at that point should have what you call relative seniority and transfers should be granted to everyone who wants one.(East or west).

Its called binding arbitration. As was the case with AA and TWA. So much for the Allegany-Mohawk provisions too. TWA had them in the contracts, and look at what it got them. Nothing.

Testy testy. Why are the UsAir people so freakin scared about a fair integration? What if the tables were turned and AWA was the older of the two merging airlines would the folks at US still be screaming DOH evrywhere they go? I think not.

DOH would in effect staple one work group under the other. Hardly fair to anyone. Ask any former TWA f/a that.

I am not agaist fair integration, which IS DOH!!..Testy? Damn right!! Learn your history, dude!! US Airways has given DOH to Piedmont, PSA, and the Eastern/Trump employees and YES, the EAL f/a's got their EAL DOH. Why? Because Trump promised them they would carry their EAL DOH and so when US bought the Shuttle, this triggered the AFA bylaws. The AFA lawyers AND AFA President Pat Friend advised the US MEC that to fight this would be fruitless because of the terms at hand as well as our AFA DOH bylaws.

Now 300 f/a's senior to me may seem small but at the time I lived in NYC and could have been about #5 in base instead of 60. That is a big difference!! Did I like it? NO, but thats the way it was and I adjusted.

At the Piedmont merger I was based in BWI. After the merger date, I watched 200 senior f/a's to me "flush" into BWI, knocking me down. Did I like it? No, but I adjusted.

In ALL these examples, each airline could had been in a position to be placed on the very bottom had other airlines non afa made the purchase. You must assume that you will be the airline purchased and not the one purchasing, Yeah, you may go down in ANY DOH airline merging, BUT...it's better than being on the bottom. Our friends at AWA don't seen to understand that in this crazy industry, someone like a NWA could have purchased THEM and do you think NWA would integrate you DOH? or American? or Delta? Hell NO, your butt would be on bottom.

Much more anomosity will be out there from 80% of the combined US Airways if any attempt to not go DOH, as opposed to a small group of the remaining 20%. Sorry, the biggest mouths are the 0-5 year people. You get NO sympathy from me. Go to JBLU or SWA if you don't like it. It's done and you're gonna have to get use to it like the rest of us.

(if you are a WN or JBLU employee reading this thread dontcha feel great about your job security.....)

Interesting that the words "value" or "customer service" or "delighted" or even "competent" are nowhere mentioned in this discussion.

DOH only seems to serve union interests when it benefits their own carcass.

ok fine - doh. next 6 months downsizing WILL happen. after that another. who should go?

I can not beleive that the AWA people think that DOH is a bad thing. I keep hearing"how would you like it if U was the smaller company and AWA was larger?" Well, people it has already happened at U 3 times.
Firstamendment has been through it a few times if anyone cared to notice their post. It is in the bylaws. I can not beleive that yall think it is gonna affect you in such a way that it would cause such turmoil. Mark my words...if DOH goes away..we will ALL be up s@#t creek without a paddle. Once it has changed the game will change. If you think it will stop there and AWA will get to intergrate how they want..well..these people at the top probably have another plan instore for the "NEW Usairways" I dont think they will stop now. Think about it. AWA f/a's are acting like a child who is losing a board game and then changes the rules half way through so they can win.

AWA F/A's....Welcome to the Real World.....you've been guarded for soo long not having to worry about all of this crap......but now you are part of the big boys and this is how they play....by the rules! Sucks doesn't it......you'll adjust we all have....and in the end you understand how fair it actually is! Remember, your CEO wanted this for you! You can always pick up your toys and go play in someone else's backyard.....that's what's been happening over here at US!

Its not about one being larger or smaller. Its about one being far more senior to the other. U traces its roots back about 65 years. AWA about 20.

TWA gave up the Allegheny/Mohawk LPPs in the contracts accepted while in bankruptcy, otherwise AA would have not proceded with the purchase.

Intergration is determined by the union, since both carriers are AFA, the AFA bylaws govern intergration which calls for DOH which will be how it is done.

Why are such clear cut and dry C&B's agreed by both carriers not ok now? Why agree to something then not want to adhere to it? Whether anyone feels DOH fair is beside the point. It was agreed by "ALL" carriers before any of the merger buzz today came about. Boy, this IS getting old huh? 🙄
