AMFA Drive started in Tulsa ?

Wouldn't AMFA represent all Title 1 members?

I know SWAMT reads these posts so I will ask it here. Maybe someone else knows as well: What is an appearance Tech? I saw that on the AMFA website yesterday.

and possibly the Stock Clerks too would be asked.

I was in the Paint and Fiberglass shop last night. I asked the Crew Chief if he thought his crew would be interested in signing an AMFA card and he stated that paraphrasing, no AMFA doesn't represent OSM's.

And on a side note, the Appearance Technicians at Southwest have ratified their contract.

Southwest Airlines announced Friday that its appearance techs approved a tentative agreement with the company. The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association, which represents the group, said there were 237 members eligible to vote.

AMFA said that 172 members, or 83.5 percent of those who cast ballots, voted in favor of the deal, while 34, or 16.5 percent, voted against the agreement.

The contract becomes amendable in February 2017, replacing the previous contract that became amendable in February 2009.

Why wouldn't AMFA represent OSM's?

Buck, Why did you ask a Crew Chief if his crew would want a card to sign? Can the Crew Chief not allow you to talk persinally with the crew? If this is the case, then you could run into a Crew Chief that is a TWU loyalist and not allow anyone to ask his crew. If you can, goto all members that you can in person. Sorry, not trying to sound like telling you how to do it, but reading your post told me you guys need the Crew Chiefs permission to discuss with the crew about AMFA. I hope not, this would be BS.

AA89, Our Apperence Techs are Aircraft cleaners. SWA changed their titles a few years back. Throughout the system outside of Dal and PHX and maybe HOU, they are primarily interior cleaners, and prep seats with seat covers and seat track covers. In the other stations, they also clean exterior A/C for maint. lines. We also call upon them for supporting our back shops, when they need parts cleaned prior to inspections as well as final cleaning of overhaul/repaired items being sent back to stores for stock inventory. Hope this helps...

I was playing a hand. Now is the time to start with individuals. No the Crew Chief cannot stop me.

Note: management in TUL hangar 3/4 stopped a organizer because he was on company time.

Doubtful the stock clerks will be added. At NW we were forced to take the cleaners as they are considered same "class and craft" but the stock clerks are not. I can tell you what you all might be in for as I have gone through this. First of all once it has been determined that there are enough cards for an election. Be prepaired for the TWU to pull out the stops much like the IAM did with us. The IAM spent over a million dollars once they figured out AMFA was a real threat. They may mail videos to your homes and have TWU members from other airlines ambush you on your way into work with propoganda in our case it was the TWA flt attendants who are/were IAM. Then the TWU will have the advantage since they are already on the property so you AMFA supporters will have to work extra hard at getting out the vote. Then if the TWU should actually lose in an election I can guarentee you that they TWU will file a protest with the NMB saying there was election interference this will most likely delay AMFA certification (in our case it took a year) before you will see AMFA on the property. It is difficult but not impossible to throw out an incumbant union as large as the TWU. Good Luck in your fight.

Ah HELLO? I think that statement states that fact quite clearly. I am at FX I am just letting the AA guys know what they MIGHT can expect I am NOT saying do not sign a card or do not go AMFA..In fact in spite of my losing my former career I still think the AA guys need to toss the TWU to the street and in the grand scheme of airline unions out there I still think AMFA is their best bet..But they do have to realize much like our guys didn't that AMFA requires a LOT more participation to make it work because they ARE the union in the case of AMFA.

With the people at AA, that would be the downfall - all that would want to put in the union time necessary are the same ones we have doing the twu's bidding now, and for the same reason - it beats working.

That could be somewhat fixed by forbidding any twu lacky within the previous 10 years to hold any position in the new representation for an additional 10 years after the installation date.

At least with AMFA, the union workers can be recalled, smack dab in the middle of their term. Can't do this with any other union out there. You could with AMP, I believe, but don't think they exsist as of yet.
It would be really sad if the former TWU reps and officers were the ones voted back into the union. At least they are better watched by the membership, and with the recall at stake, they are more than likely going to do their best job to maintain the positions.

Unfortunately that also happened at NWA...Some of the AMFA guys were former IAM lackeys and of course they were the first to cross the picket line once we went out on strike...F'kn losers...Like I said if you AA guys do vote in AMFA some of you need to step up and take some positions or else TWU lackeys who don't want to work will wind up in those positions.

Might be better off with some of those lackeys staying off the acft.

SCABS always know they are SCABS !They just have to wonder who around them knows!

I see this AMFA as a waste of time. Their track record is "NOT" to represent those who do overhaul! So who in their right mind from a maintenance base would even consider signing up with them? AMFA has no care, clue, or desire to maintain overhaul work because its not within their preferred group of interest. Their record is to shed themselves of this type of work by the history of the AMFA. It must be to complicated, or the AMFA must fall short on the internal resources to maintain such a group.

Just my honest observation....

It doesn't matter who represents overhaul, there will only be a fraction of what we do now due to fleet renewal, extended checks, and outsourcing starting in the near future. The fact remains those left will want better representation.
