AA and Labor Negotiations-2020

If things don't improve by October to an acceptable level I see another early out package before any layoffs hit the workforce. Who determines an acceptable level? Probably the same guy who said we will never lose money again.
I see at least a 20 percent reduction in our workforce in the fall

What concerns me is watch the company reduce the work force in the near future and beef up the work in South America. Cheaper labor. This would be the reason AA needs to reduce the headcount and justify the maintenance facilities in South America. With the association representing us that possibilty has a higher percentage of happening.

Going to be more like 40% reduction to start. Hope alot of people, who could take the buyout will

any numbers on the last buy ouy?

No hire in before 2016. Why the big sceret with everything involued with the A$$. Swa fa represented by the twu standing strong. Twu maint calling up Jim Little how to save the unborn jobs before ours

Agree and pay cuts too,but there may be another bailout
Another bailout is very unlikely from what I’ve been reading.
I suspect there will be several bankruptcy filings and one or two outright chapter 7s
This industry is changed forever over fear of a virus that is no worse in my opinion than the seasonal flu

Like the flu huh? I pray none of your loved ones get it and die from it.

That seems way too optimistic to me, but I guess we'll see. I'd say 30-40% across all carriers. Hopefully, dignified Early Out packages help mitigate that.
Yes. We all hope the EO packages will be offered up soon. Also hoping some folks are in the positions to be able to take them and still retire comfortably a bit earlier than planned.

Kev., Are you hearing any kind of numbers from Delta what they think the airline might look like in the future? 10, 20 or say 30% smaller? And maybe the employee number reflect the same % as size in reduction of company size?? Is this why you are optimistic about the 20% guess from him??? I would hate to see a 30-40% reduction in employees, that's a bit large.

I hope so too, but based on current death rates it’s about 1 percent which is right in line with flu rate deaths
That is based on the fact there have been more asymptotic then they first thought

The health folks are predicting when it comes back in winter itll be worse. With at least one of our own hospitalized w it i truly hope all be ok n all. But if say there be ch11 n ch 7 which air carriers wld go which way? I hope n pray it doesnt come to that. Dl reported 1st qtr losses n UA is bout to do similar n both carriers warn 2nd qtr will be worse

I know that there will be reductions at UA. Some of the speculation from financial sources are saying between 27 to 30 percent, whether any more relief comes or not. That's about 30,000 people if we have 90,000 employees. And both you guys (AA & DL) are bigger than us, so things don't look that good at all. Speculate that: that's almost 100,000 just from the big three alone. Of course there will be some out packages, and some are offering some sort of bridge medical till Medicaid kicks in. (I've a few more years before I hit that level) And you better believe there will be some sort of pay reduction, whether many survivors being reduced to PT, or just a cut in rates. I bet the Unions will have to make hard decisions as well. This will throw a major wrench in our negotiations upcoming next year. I'm not trying to think about October, but the tale will be told right after Labor Day when you check your local newspaper and look in the "legal notice" section when the WARN notice to the states will be.

The problem is that when you are sitting at home either on leave (like I have) or self isolating, all you hear is bad news. You try to tune out and do something to take your mind of the present situation, but you can't since everything around you is not normal in any sense. Whether standing in line to get groceries or going elsewhere (with a mask on at all times), it is surreal that a errand you normally run that normally takes 15 to 20 minutes now takes about 2 to 3 hours. I heard another employee of ours on the ramp died from the virus. That's about 3 employees that I personally know who have died, plus some friends outside of work who are sick. I'll be reporting back to work from my 30 days, next month. You really don't have much to come back to, since you are on a reduced schedule (albeit with pay), and will be flowed wherever needed. And I will need to wear a mask at all times. That is probably what will happen to me when I get back. Still not good when there is nothing positive around you to look forward to.

That hurts worse than the virus itself............

mnuchin was asked last month about the possibility of an airline 'bailout' #2, and he said he was open to it, let's see what happens in the short term, first. remember, the media is very angry the airlines are getting help, but not illegal immigrants or the homeless. trump, pence and mnuchin were asked 4-5 times about the airlines by reporters who were clearly perplexed as to why the airlines were/are getting help.

how can there be pay cuts, when our pay is contractualized? the only ways are:

- union agrees to let us vote on concessions
- company files for bk

the atomic option will not only see the company nuke it's creditors (including the govt. with over $10 billion of aa egg on it's face), but also parker and isom's jobs.

i don't see that. pushback from the govt., banks and employees. i don't see the company and the re-animated association (reformed, just for this) agreeing to concessions.

take more govt. money with the caveat to lay off employees. to me, that is the most likely scenario.

there is or was a point of no return for the economy. we have either passed it or are approaching it. nation has to reopen soon or the airline industry and the govt. will need to huddle again in aug/sept.

unfortunately, i believe some are pulling for the economy to collapse and have to power to further shut down the economy/stoke fear, they want trump's economy to crash and burn for november's vote.

Yes, it’s sad to think so called leaders in Congress would rather see failure then success for Americans just so they can hold power over them, truly sad
