AA and Labor Negotiations-2020

American offers Voluntary Leave of Absence Option for 2020
WoW!
"An election window will be open for a period of one week."
They will give ya a whole week to decide on something that will last days, weeks, or maybe even months (depending on how much time off is considered). But a new JCBA that will affect your futures over the next 5 years plus another 2-3 for the next nego's you only get one day. Speaks volumes. The asso. leaders are just freakin idiots!!!

If you read the guide lines. Fu k them
Agree, you want me (or who you decide) to take a VLOA to help with this terrible situation and you tell me no vacation or sick time accrual.
Thanks Association for putting your foot down on that...you suck more every day.

Rogallo, SWA Just announced that they are seriously considering cutting flights. Even though we do not fly the routes being blocked, they are still seeing the effects of them being cancelled as more people are not flying even within the states. Hopefully all this will get cleared up quickly and get back to the norm. But, that seems to never happen in the airline industry. Good luck to all of us. Can only pray that no one gets laid off or furlow. Godspeed everyone!!!

I have been told im too critical of the association so i was trying to go a little easier. Besides it probably was the iam who agreed and the twu just sat done and said "ok"

What I see that could happen once we pass the agreement if the airlines don’t see an improvement in bookings for summer and beyond then by fall pay cuts will be announced
They will come back to the union to for reductions or whatever they can try.
Let’s hope people stop loosing their minds and start to travel again
Way before that, look at the bookings. No revenue coming in.Before they hit us however they better get rid of the obscene number of managers they have

Oh we understand fully. We understand how you guys got duped into giving concessions and still went right into BK. Hence the DD thread (Double Dip)
Another issue I was trying to warn about AA was going to file for BK anyway rather they got the concessions agreement or not by the union, they were still going to file, and they did.
Like I posted before, I am not saying they are headed that way again this time. I did say I would not put it pass them though. With all the new countries being added to the list of cancellations, the airlines can't keep paying positions that are not needed, so I feel some furlows and maybe even layoffs might be on the horizon. And that just suks for us in the industry as all of us could feel the affects.

For people that like to harp on history, it's amazing how they leave out details from the story.

Concessions were given in 2003, by all unions, to avoid bankruptcy. The Airline filed 8 years later after almost every major airline in the industry did file bankruptcy and lowered their costs to less than AA. By the end of those bankruptcies by UA, DL, NWA, USAir and everyone else, AA once again had the highest costs in the industry.

That, didn't have anything to do with today's situation.

C'mon Bob, I never pictured you as the "Sky is falling" type. I have eaten a bit of crow lately (didn't think LUS would keep their medical) so I'm ready to serve a little bit. Keep this comment right next to NYer's as I don't think BK is even on the radar at this point. By the way, Texas BBQ'd crow isn't that bad...🙂
You two still haven't met each other?? I think AA spotted Bob once or twice...just didnt say anything

As long as the National Emergency stays in order anything can happen with labor contracts. If this virus peaks and new cases drops significantly then that is the turn around signal. Watch for the virus to peak and loads should pick up. Another indicator is how the market moves day to day. The Yo Yo effect means uncertainty on a daily basis.
The sky is only falling if you listen to mass media hysteria. Follow the real news. Plenty out there.
Remember these two things.
Virus peaks, market recovers and we are good to go. Those are the two things that started the Sky is falling panic. Recovery for AA may and probably will be slow but summer is coming and if all goes well in about two months things should improve significantly. Then again the one thing to look for is another world event. Hopefully we had enough for 2020.
Where do you find real news???

Now what? CDC recommending no gathering of crowds larger than 50 excluding schools and businesses for the next eight weeks. Do we now phone in a vote, or is it put on a two month freeze?

I’m sure the vote is being postponed and besides after what UA is doing we will be laying off soon anyway so might as well get ready.
This crap is going to cripple us and there will be job losses

I guess the IAM still plans on briefing their members.

CONTRACT : Good evening everyone. I know much is on everyones mind about what is going to happen. I will address some things on here to update you, and also to educate some of our members that maybe have never faced some rough times like we are going through now. But first a couple things about the contract.
We will still be conducting our clt info meetings the next two days, Monday & Tuesday in the B11 conference room from 10am - 6pm both days.
We will break for lunch each day from 12:00Pm - 1:00 pm.
Please bring all your questions about the contract.

The company has made no mention of wanting to pull the contract back, or delay the vote. It is my personal opinion that the company wants to get this done and get everyone under one joint agreement in case furloughs are needed. It will be much easier for them to deal with one agreement and one seniority list, than two separate ones.

So as of now, we still must prepare to vote on the 26th. Which means we must continue to educate everyone about the agreement, so our members can make a educated decision on how they want to vote.
If your reading this email and you are not in clt, the IAM reps have been told to limit their flying except in necessary situations. And while I don't want to speak for every district officer doing station visits, I can say that even though we still as of now, plan on making our scheduled meetings that are set across the system, please keep informed, because things are changing with air travel daily.
If things change to where we are not able to make it to all of our stations, please direct your members to a Facebook address that is " I AM FLEET SERVICE CHARLOTTE NC " Just send a request to join, and we will get you on so you can ask your questions. I will be on this site daily to answer as many questions as possible. This will be the best way I know to inform our members if we aren't able to make it to all of our stations because of the travel. But as of now, please continue to read the agreement and get your questions answered and prepare to vote on the 26th of this month.

GET PREPARED : This information while very important is not intended to scare anyone. It is meant to inform you of some things , and hopefully get our members as ready and prepared to face whatever comes down the road with this virus.
First, it doesn't matter one bit, if you think this is being over blown, or not. The fact is, the airlines are facing the biggest crisis since 9/11. In fact they say the financial damage has already surpassed 9/11.
Many are saying things are going to get much worse before they get better. The good news is that it will at some point get better.
We should not panic, but there are some things that our members can and should be doing just to prepare.

But first let me talk about " FORCE MAJEURE " language, and what does it mean. This is language that is in every contract. Its in our current contract, and will also be in our next contract. Long story short it is language that protects the company basically when certain conditions happen, that gives them the right to not comply with the job protections or scope of our current contract. Just a couple of those conditions are 1. A national emergency 2. A grounding of a substantial number of the companys aircraft. 3. an act of God.

As you can see just by these 3 issues, the company does have grounds to invoke the " force majeure" contractual language. If or when they will? I don't know as of the time of this email. However be prepared in case furloughs do take place.
One of the most important things you can do, is to call your creditors NOW. Don't wait until something happens and you are behind on your payments. They are much less likely to help you then. Call them now, while your still on time, and in good standing with them. Creditors like your mortgage, auto, credit cards, or anything else. If you call them and tell them that you work for the airlines, and you are possibly facing being furloughed from your job for a period of time, and you would like some help with your payments, many of them will help you when the time comes, because you cared enough to call in advance. They can let you skip payments. or they can reduce your payment, or they can just have you pay interest only for a few months and just extend your loan.
They will normally help you, but again, you must call them before you get behind.

Hopefully the spread of this virus will start slowing down and maybe if we are lucky the cases start going down instead of going up. But we must prepare for things to get worse before they get better.
Again, this info isn't meant to piss anyone off, or to frighten you. It is intended to inform you and hopefully help you a little bit, in what can be a very stressful time for our members. Lastly, if your someone that is doing ok, and don't have to worry to much financially, then please, talk to each other. Lets make sure to help our brothers and sisters as much as we possibly can, and maybe together, we can get through this, and get back to some normalcy for our work group.

Again, I will be on the Facebook page as much as possible going forward to answer as many questions as I can. Hope to see many of you the next two days at our info meetings.

PLEASE TRY AND HAVE A NICE AND SAFE WEEK

Now what? CDC recommending no gathering of crowds larger than 50 excluding schools and businesses for the next eight weeks. Do we now phone in a vote, or is it put on a two month freeze?
The way its transmitted is by mouth. Breathing normally will move the virus from person to person. Whether it's a group of 100 or 50 makes no difference. It takes that one person near you to spread the virus. Best advice right now is keep your distance from everyone and wash your hands often. Yes you should avoid large gatherings because it increases the percentage of getting the virus. Why open your self up to getting sick?

I guess just a matter of time for all to follow suit. (Gotta stay competitive)

Facing this crisis together
To our United family:

In the message we sent to you last Thursday, we promised to stay in close touch about the impact of the coronavirus on our business and the steps that we’re taking to aggressively manage it.

In just the last few days, the impact of the coronavirus has really hit home and disrupted the daily routines of hundreds of millions of people in the United States and around the world. State and local governments continue to close schools, encourage people to avoid bars and restaurants and cancel more large gatherings. This weekend, President Trump announced new travel restrictions for the United Kingdom and Ireland. Watching this unfold, you won’t be surprised to hear that the impact of the coronavirus on our business has also gotten quite a bit worse.

As the leaders of the 100,000 people of United, we feel a deep obligation to each of you to run our company in a way that protects you -- and your ability to provide for your family at home. We also owe it to you, especially in a crisis, to be open with you about important decisions we face.

We want to share some numbers to help you understand just how bad the impact of the coronavirus has been on our business. As you know, March is typically our busiest month of the year. But this year, in just the first two weeks of March, we have welcomed more than one million fewer customers on board our aircraft than the same period last year. We’re also currently projecting that revenue in March will be $1.5 billion lower than last March.

The bad news is that it’s getting worse. We expect both the number of customers and revenue to decline sharply in the days and weeks ahead.

Since late January, we have taken steps to aggressively manage this crisis and to keep you informed every step of the way - sharply reducing schedules, imposing a hiring freeze, introducing a voluntary leave program, dramatically reducing discretionary spending, cutting CEO base salary 100% and deferring a salary increase. Our competitors have started to follow suit: on Friday, Delta announced a 40% schedule reduction and a 100% salary cut for their CEO and over the weekend, American said it will reduce its international capacity by 75%.

We took early, aggressive action because we have been determined to do everything possible to avoid painful steps that affect your paycheck. But, based on the severity of the situation, that no longer appears realistic.

This weekend, we began conversations with our union leadership about how to reduce our payroll expense in a way that minimizes what we know will be painful for all of us. Earlier this evening, we convened a call with Corporate Officers to update them on the severity of the situation and let them know we will be cutting their salary by 50%.

Let us be clear: these are not the only next steps. Tomorrow, we will announce an approximately 50% cut in capacity for April and May. We also now expect these deep cuts to extend into the summer travel period. Even with those cuts, we’re expecting load factors to drop into the 20-30% range -- and that’s if things don’t get worse.

Together, we’re facing an unprecedented challenge. When medical experts say that our health and safety depends on people staying home and practicing social distancing, it’s nearly impossible to run a business whose shared purpose is “Connecting people. Uniting the world.”

We both hate to have to write a note like this, but we have made a commitment to be honest and transparent with you. While it’s now clear that this is going to painful for our people, we promise that you are at the very top of our priority list. We are working night and day on support and ideas to keep as much pay as we possibly can flowing to you -- even if gets worse from here and demand temporarily plummets to zero.

This crisis is moving really quickly. It’s having an impact on nearly every aspect of our lives, and it may feel to you like everything is changing. But, the most important thing about our business hasn’t changed: you’ve shown us that even in these difficult times, we’re still United and focused on caring for our customers and each other together. That’s always been the essential ingredient to our success. It’s what will get us through this crisis in the near term, and it’s also what will allow us to fulfill United’s incredible potential in the long-term.

We’ll continue to communicate frequently and transparently in the days ahead.

With resolve,

Oscar and Scott

We could've had a contract 3 years ago and earning 9% company match in our 401K's all these years but the union(s) felt it was more important to secure future AA employees as dues paying members.
