If you're ever going through MIA I'll hand you one personally. Hopefully I won't need to though cause we'll both be reading the same book by then?

Can we clarify the definition of "paid suspension" under the TWU contract?
A employee who is withheld out of service shall continue to be paid.

Thank you Koolcat. Another big difference in CBAs. Lots of work needs to be done on the details of this future JCBA. For example... what is the remedial action when the company fails to provide timely notification of a schedule adjustment, or the posting of a new open time (vacation relief) schedule? I hope we get some more enforcement teeth in this new JCBA. It's not just about hourly wage. What good is a contract if you do not have the means to enforce it? There has to be accountability when any of the Articles of the agreement is violated. A simple apology with the promise of we won't do that again is not sufficient IMO. The company tends to pay less attention to violations that cost them nothing.

Hey T5. How's everything going? Got any updates from your neck of the woods?
Hi WeAAsels.
Besides the IAM pension problems (the people on the sCO side are still in CARP - we weren't moved over to the IAM plan yet); the company and the IAM are having minor talks and some Quality Of Life issues to iron out. Nothing earthshaking yet. But the company is willing to "listen", and we will see if our people who took the cuts will be restored before further talks happen.  And to settle any outstanding grievances as well. The had three meetings already and will meet again soon. I must remind all that these are not contract talks for the new contract.  Hopefully the needle will move and we can get something out of this. The company cut us too deep, and they knew it. We were dead last in all operational metrics. Now for the last two months, we are the best. Happy employees means better results. Business 101.

We will be getting our profit sharing this month (Traditionally it was on the 15th of Feb. - now it is at the end of this month.) We (Ramp & Customer Service) and the other non represented groups are getting 6.5%. That is a surprise, but I'll take it. MX & FA's are getting around 12%; and the pilots about or near 15% (I'm not sure about these figures for the others, but it was way better than last year.)  It sure as hell beat the 1.1 percent we got last year - we paid for our raises with the other percentage.

I just read todays update and you negotiations resume next week.
I wish you guys the best and good luck!!

Mention of schedule conflicts and concessionary proposals is not a good early sign. Negotiating Committee and the membership should be prepared for a long process reaching a TA with this posture from the company. They may not want to share the profits they are reaping.

But we'll get plenty of people saying "But Parker said this in that roadshow"

Will they ever learn?

Days passing by, as are the dollars. I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy that they've locked down the uniform language. This all reverts back to the association not being prepared to go prior to them being certified. Record profits, with hopes of finally getting to where we should be, and our representatives are playing footsie with the company.

I have to think the way the association stumbled its way into negotiations has a role in the companies bogus bargaining. After reading the update it is clear that the association is being abused and insulted by the company. You then have to ask what can be done to reverse this disgusting behavior by the company. This could get ugly and may have to if the association can not get it across to mgmt the bad blood they are going to instill in their employees. I had a pilot tell me the other day you guys have to work at an easier pace because this mgmt group are a holes. He then said your union should call ours because we will back you up, but we never hear from you. It's kind of a shame to see this go down this road but corporate greed is really extreme in this case. I have to agree with some other posts that the association brought this on themselves and seem to be viewed as oddballs by the company.

Funny, I don't remember ANY scheduling conflicts back 2003 when they redid our contract with all the give backs .
Not a single hiccup in those talks, wrapped everything up in weeks.

Now isn't the time but after a contract, I have to wonder if the TWU will decide to depart from the Association. The Association is a non AFLCIO independent union that can be raided upon. Other paths, after a contract, I heard of members just bringing in a new in-house union as the stews and pilots have.

From my perspective, we must support the Association at least and until a contract is ratified. Then re-assess if we are comfortable moving forward with the Association.

regards,

Tim the association isn't a union at all. It's just that. An association of two unions that are both AFL/CIO members. Don't forget it was daddy Trumka who ordered the two to play nice with each other and share the same sandbox.

As far as comfort Tim that's not going to matter more than likely once there is a JCBA. Unless it has clear devestations in it, I suspect after people receive that first paycheck nothing else will matter and the association will have done its job.
