In a seniority type business, such as an airline, those 10,000 job cuts could very well come from PHX.

They would never cut someone senior and allow someone junior to stay in PHX, it justs doesn't work that way. Cut the most junior and transfer the next batch in.

Fight the merge.

Okay, and just eliminate ALL America West Airline employees off the map??!!!!
DON"T THINK SO!
Keep US Airways, MY US Airways!!!!!!!!!

Do you think it would be more fair any other way? Imagine if you worked somewhere for 20 years but were told you would lose your job so that someone with 3 years could keep theirs. HUH?!? Not in a seniority based business.

I do agree though:

Keep US Airways, YOUR US Airways!!!!

This year would of been America West Airlines 25th year!! We have 25 year employees now at US Airways on the West side! I don't see the merger laying off all of our people, please!!???

I withdraw what I said earlier. I should have read between the lines more.

So Parker is finally paying for running the "world's least favourite airline"?

Tilton has to "groom" him to get him to be acceptable to UA's BOD?

Maybe this is finally one of those "what comes around goes around" moments. I concede that it is quite likely that Parker will prevail, but perhaps they'll build in some firewalls first. Like bar the US IT department from getting within 5 feet of their computers. Or how about the authors of the Anti-closet world? Siberia! And finally, tuna burritos for life for Inflight management.

You know, I don't think that our mismanagement would tick me off quite so much if they had just admitted that they were over their heads and screwed up. East is used to mediocre management, but we've never had such an arrogant bunch before.

BTW, if you try treating flight attendants and pilots at UA like bus drivers and waitresses, as you do at US, the lack of productivity you see hitting you in the behind at US will look like a Sunday afternoon in the park.

Your joking right?

A reservation system that is horrid.
FA and Pilots three years later with no single CBA and intergration.
Horrible onboard service.
Terrible A/C reconfiguration.
Dirty Airplanes.
Highest complaints of the legacy airlines.

Do I need to continue?

What Is Wrong With The On Board Service? It's NOT Any Different Than Most Other Airlines!

Yep sure UA, AA and the rest of the real airlines serve a tuna burrito and wine in plastic in first class!

I do not see 10,000 employees losing there jobs just in PHX alone???!!!! It has to be UNITED wide, not just PHX. But all I can say, Freedom are you listening???? Do you really want this fool running the new United?? Forget about PHX being safe!!!!  :(

There is a very good possiblity Phx could lose 10,000 jobs and it has nothing to do with seniority. If the merger happens and headquarters is moved to Chicago, all jobs relative to the phx hub will be moved to ord. The company will most likely offer a transfer to all the phx based employees but how many will really take it? The same thing happened when HP-US merged, only it was the old US employees that lost out when their headquarters was moved to Tempe. Also, if phx loses its hub status and flights are reduced, there will be fewer jobs at the airport.

I agree, that wouldn't happen (of course, I didn't say it would). I said they will layoff people in seniority order. If you aren't in a union, not an issue (then it will be determined by HQ location) but for everyone else.....well, seniority is the way it is.

US Airways pilots say too soon for United tie-up

US Airways pilots union says United may not be the best partner because of its recent losses

PHOENIX (AP) -- The pilots union for US Airways says the carrier should focus on its last merger before discussing another tie-up with United Airlines.

The US Airline Pilots Association says it's also concerned about the financial health of United parent company UAL Corp.

Union president Stephen Bradford said Friday that with its mounting losses, Chicago-based UAL may not make the best partner. UAL lost $537 million in the first quarter.

The US Airline Pilots Association (USAPA) representing the US Airways Pilots speaks out on airline consolidation rumors including UAL
PRESS RELEASE

CHARLOTTE – Following yesterday’s US Airline Pilots Association Board Meeting, and prompted by increased media attention on a possible US Airways and United Airlines merger, leaders of The US Airline Pilots Association are evaluating the effects that mergers may have on their Company and their Pilots.

“USAPA will not sit back and allow airline environmental changes without protecting the interests of all our pilots,†said President Stephen Bradford. “We will work with our management to maintain our position among those airlines that are financially well-situated, but first things first. The US Airways Pilots will not support any moves towards a follow-on merger until management finishes the job of our last merger.â€

With 6.8 billion dollars invested and an ATSB restricted contract, the pilots of US Airways are the single largest investor in US Airways.

“Regarding United Airlines, their financial health is a major concern to USAPA. With mounting losses, and a dismal balance sheet, UAL may not be the best dance partner for US Airways,†said USAPA President, Stephen Bradford. “If synergies mean cutting capacity at US Airways while we experience record load factors concurrent with positive industry yields, we simply aren’t interested.â€

USAPA represents over 5,000 US Airways pilots in seven domiciles across the United States.
