US-AA Merger Articles (Merged Topics)

There were no labor leaders from the East or West from U present. Think about that.

Douggie Parker has focused on making deals with employees that are not his or part of U. He is not sitting down with his own labor groups to try to give them their contracts first.

Indeed. That should instantly tell anyone at all concerned with labor issues everything they need to know about "Team Tempe".

Ahh, Mayor Nutjob thinks it's a good idea. Well, that settles it, then.

It's one thing to tout Willie Walsh's endorsement, but the Mayor of Philly? Really?

The City of Philly and British Airlines also think a merger is a good idea.

A "go of it", indeed. Consolidation will only mean that labor will work at the bottom of the food chain for the next decade, and less competition in the industry will mean less capacity, higher fares, and eventually....the industry will once again be REGULATED.

Just as I predicted back in 2002, actually wrote it on this very board about the "domino effect", starting with US Airways BankruptCIES. All the legacies will get their "free passes", screw labor, creditors, stockholders, investors, and taxpayers, and then enventually, through consolidation, screw the flying public until the government will have to step in... as this all effects United States commerce.

Such is the Greed Beast, unchecked, begets more greed and more greed, until finally, the pendulum swings back.

The greed beast? WTF?

The industry historically doesn't make money, yeah those damn greedy airlines trying to actually make a profit.

I am sure he is an idiot and a crook but nonetheless a powerful alley to have.

No, actually he is a great mayor and an honorable man, and we're proud to have him as our mayor. And yes, he is a powerful ally to have on our side.

US Airways reported record second-quarter profits Wednesday, posting a net profit of $306 million for the three-month period ending June 30, compared to $106 million for the same period in 2011.

US Airways is the largest carrier at Philadelphia International Airport.

"Consumer demand for our product remained strong during the second quarter, resulting in record revenue, passenger yields and unit revenue performance," CEO Doug Parker said in a statement. "These results speak volumes about the collective efforts of our 32,000 employees, who continue to run an outstanding airline for our customers. Thanks to their hard work, we have set numerous company records in operating reliability, including our best-ever year-to-date performance in on-time arrivals, baggage handling and completion factor."

The bottom line was aided by lower fuel prices. Total average fuel price per gallon fell 3.5 percent versus last year, to $3.18 per gallon, the airline said.

WTF???? How long have you been around?????

I am speaking of senior execs compensation packages, investor profits ...not the workers, comprendae????

Historically haven't made money since the INDUSTRY was deregulated! And, I'm not a regulatory proponent...but in some instances...absolutely!

And just how is he compensating this great workforce???? NO joint contract to finally merge the airline...speaks volume to my previous point!

A couple other mayors (and our governor!) do not share his enthusiasm for this merger:
