The Teamsters want to be the union for the ramp at United, right? If so, they need the UAL votes. Do you think they are going to get a single vote at UAL if they tell them the CAL guys will get a weighted DOH?

If they try that, the IAM will win in a landslide.

During the teamster drive to represent the Mechanics at UAL, they promised DOH integration if UAL & CAL merged.

Back in 07'-08' almost half of UAL eligible mechanics were on furlough, and the teamsters needed the cards.

They L-I-E-D plain and simple.

The teamsters most recent Q&A on the CAL merger states there will be fences and adjustments for seniority.

They are going to say what ever they have to to get the votes. In reality it will probably come down to some kind of binding arbitration. Then you can all act like the USair east pilots and cry foul. :p

I have no problem with accepting arbitration, or even negotiations that eliminate the need for arbitration.

What I do have a problem with is this is yet another LIE passed by the IBT.

You know that the IBT is quiet, and nobody on our side knows what's going on. They know that the can't get a contract no time soon, now that the merger is announced. I'm sure that ALL future contracts for every work group is up for re-negotiation on both sides? (someone correct me if I'm wrong.) All they are saying is that they are talking with management. But IMHO, I don't think that any contract would be in place no time soon. Which all this leaves us in sort of limbo, where you have to walk on eggshells for a year or more. You are constantly watching yourself and don't screw up, cause you will get fired, since you have no representation, and there is no more EIT. (EIT was shut down the day after the election result was announced) Of course the IBT will say anything. Don't mean nothin' though.

We also know that UA guys have a lot more seniority than our guys. But IMHO, I don't think that there should be a problem integrating people in hubs. I know that the UA people at EWR are very senior. But they have a small number of people. But since there are more UA people than CO people, I hope that representatives from both parties can start to talk with each other, bounce some ideas off each other and see if we can find a way to work together. Also, IMHO, if there were an an election between the IBT and the IAM, I think that the IAM would win. The IBT are great organizers (but that went the already discontent of management and an upcoming merger) that they capitalized on. You can bet that they will say anything to be the bargaining agent for the ramp. But I think with the sudden merger announcement, I think that took them a bit by surprise, and now they can't get a contract. But that hurts us in the long run, since we have no representation, and we can be fired without just cause for a mishap. Just look at the announcement last month about the 6 outstations that were getting ready to be axed. (But with the merger, that was put on hold). But you get the picture.

Personally, I don't care which union represents us. As long as we get a good contract with scope; pay raises (higher pay on the steps & top out); better benefits; and work rules. That's what I and a lot of people on my side wants. We been without a union for a long time, and we know how it feels to be the ATM for the other workgroups. I'm looking forward to meeting some of the UA guys in the near future and would love to learn more about UA, and the differences in just basic work rules and such. You guys have differences and so do we in the way we do things, but we know that both of our people can turn a flight, get all the bags; freight; mail; & comat on board, and get it out on time. I have one suggestion though.........please change your bag tags............!!!

Man I forgot to get back to you on your questions. I'll PM you tomorrow.

BTW, our bag tags are good.

They show the departure time of the flight on there. I have never seen another bag tag do that.

As for a election. Like I said, if there is one word about weighted DOH, the IAM wins in a landslide.

US Airways made a big change to computer generated bag tags sometime ago. Departure times for departure flights , HUBS in reverse video also connecting flights with departure times. When the scanners got going full stream, you could even make reroutes with the scanners and more programming to come in the future. It is nice to work in BSO and when a PAX comes be able to tell them exactly where their bag was scanned at the last point.

Our bag tags also the departure time as well. Those little things helps out a lot. Especially if you have a hot bag to connect!

But it's the small computerized font that bothers me, especially at night. It's a bit hard on download to differentiate the locals from the connectors, since we get a lot of UAL bags now we have the codeshare.
But that's a personal gripe........ I'm seeing more and more of them, I'll get used to it over time........
