Keep drinking your texas trailer kool-aid bud- connie continental doesnt have money to buy anyone outright and when it is investors putting up the money it is called a merger - the only one that has money right now is WN - and you can take that to the bank bra-tha (and trust me i am no fan of WN) but facts are facts.
Umm...I'm fairly sure CO can get some MONEY!!! What about UA...not so sure!!!

What about a Continental/Southwest Merger? Southwest has been wanting to move out east where CAL is pretty strong, plus the CAL system over seas?

It's a done deal, it will be announced in two weeks, but all CO and WN employees will be fired and UA employees brought in to run the combined company. UA will be staffed by ex Eastern and Pan Am employees, and you can take that to the bank!

Don't forget the ex-Braniff employees!!!

Laugh all that you want, but the CO/UA merger is going to happen. And soon. It's a done deal. Hang on, for the ride ahead will be bumpy until the deal shakes out. But in the end, the combined company will be a true force.

A done deal? Hmmm...That would be news to Glenn Tilton and the entire team of Senior Execs at UAL. I recently met with all of the senior executives at UAL over a two-day period at World Headquarters in Chicago. The CO-UA merger came up continually during different meetings with each senior level executive and the answer was always the same: There have been no talks about UA consolidating with CO or any other carrier. There are no discussions planned. Should industry consolidation continue beyond the US-HP deal, United , AT THAT TIME, will visit becoming an active participant in further industry consolidation. Currently, the company's direction is focused on improving operating margins and attracting further institutional investment.

If there is one thing I have learned in the course of my airline experience, it's that front-line employees are usually the worst source of information. In the event that industry consolidation does continue, CO and UA would, indeed make a compelling combination. But as far as it being a done deal, put it to bed. It simply isn't true. I will believe it when I read it in a company press release, not on some internet chat board...

Thank you for allowing the benefit of your experience, wisdom and altruistic disposition.. ;)

JAMAKE1,

I'm curious if you're aware of what constitutes insider trading? An officer of a company who speaks prematurely about a transaction that could materially altar the share price of his/her company would be in violation of the law. Did you honestly expect them to be truthful with you about any potential strategic transactions? You've got to be kidding me.

There have been no talks about a CO/UA merger you say? There are no discussions planned? Hmmmmmm.....you sure about that? Did Glenn or Pete or John actually tell you that? Then surely it must be true!!!

The bottom line is that for all his faults in running UA, Glenn Tilton isn't stupid. He realizes that the airline inustry simply has too many carriers left for the industry to prosper. Some sort of radical restructuring of this industry is inevitable. It will either happen through M & A activity, or through bankruptcy liquidation asset cherry-picking. Look at the geo-political situation and the continued rise in oil prices. It's simply not sustainable for an industry that is currently barely getting by. This merger is going to happen and the DOJ will sign-off on it with a few carve-outs.

And by the way, I didn't get my information from mere front-line employees.

I suggest you prepare for the inevitable.

If I had a nickle for every time a certain US Airways bus captain said that magical phrase 'done deal' about the UA/US merger, I could afford to retire early.

But just for grins, if you're so sure about about this proposed merger, throw us all a bone. What does the financing look like? Who will be acquiring whom? Where will it be headquartered?

If you really have the inside scoop, you'll be able to answer these questions and more.

Come on Clone...............All you have to do is read this forum to know that there HAS been merger talks.

We all know that EVERYTHING we read on these boards is true.

Tell me that we haven't been dupped by what people have written here, I'm sure there would be a lot of disappointed folks.
