TWU-IAM Association thread

Metal the fact of the matter is simple. It's all about Geography. Most of the people who come on here and complain are based out of NYC and high COL areas. But JFK seems to be the root. That CNN COL calculator I've posted shows that a guy in TUL making that same $75,000 in JFK would have the equivalent of making $144,000 in TUL. And the guy in CLT makes the equivalent of $134,000, DFW $132,000. Even MIA hits $114,000.

But the gripe I hear the most is about TUL on here. Why really would a guy in TUL want to rock that boat? If you were in JFK and making $144,000 per year would you?

That's your problem why so many people don't hate the TWU as much as you think they do.

Of course they don't want to rock the boat, but yet they and some line stations were against the GEO pay because they would not get as much as NY and CA....
And you wonder why we complain?

You are probably right.....From what I can gage on the floor, everyone is going gaga over the Delta + 7% and will probably give a rat's arse about language.
Parker just mentioned it again here in MIA. 7% above the top DL rate in wages. He did specify "wages"

He was in MIA again? Gee, we in NY are beginning to feel neglected.

I know VERY well why you complain. You can take the NYer out of NY but that doesn't mean he's not still from there.

But you guys honestly aren't doing chit to advocate for it. I'm doing more than you and I don't even live there anymore.

Let's see if association ignores our pleas for it.. I already submitted it for negotiations.

I've talked to people who "say" they agree with it. I "hope" I see it in writing. We'll see?

You would be surprised how far this would go in having many like me begin to have faith in my union. And I will add I want GEO pay NOT at the expense of anyone else. negotiate a wage "all-in" and THEN add GEO pay.

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest. I think it would be a massive shot in the arm for unity and FAIRNESS.

Welp, now you know the target. That's as good of starting point as any.

Of course the obvious question is what he expects in return...

Oh there most certainly will be something asked for? Will it be worth the price though since we'll be getting the industry averaging in September anyway?

Not too much emphasis to return anything after that comes through, IMO.

Whatever we get in the September industry average raise  and 3% contractual raise would just bring us that much closer to Delta. If we were to get a new JCBA before September, the 3% and industry average would no longer exist.
So it really doesn't matter whether we get one before the other.

As far as what will be asked for, that will be the eye opener.

beware of the dangling carrot cause the other hand is going to smack you down.

if parker and company wold just give us a raise of Delta plus 7 and  benefits back with no concessions i would say bravo.  unfortunately, that will not happen!   there should be nothing to negotiate just give us back what you took for the so called airline survival. I promise i wont say "NO"

You should, "Lower your expectations" and don't worry we will "Fight like Hell" to get you the best contract.

On the heels of the National Mediation Board’s (NMB) certification of the TWU-IAM Association at American Airlines, the Fleet Service and Mechanic and Related negotiations committees have scheduled bargaining preparations at the Machinists Union’s William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Complex in Hollywood, Maryland the week of July 6, 2015.

“Combining the labor agreements from two different airlines is a complex process, but this reconciliation will be the foundation on which new agreements will be forged,” said TWU International President Harry Lombardo and IAM General Vice President Sito Pantoja in a joint statement. “The Association is eager to complete our preparations so we can get to the table and bargain the contracts our members deserve.”

“It’s largely due to the hard work and past sacrifices of members represented by the Association that American Airlines is now among the most profitable carriers in the world,” continued Pantoja and Lombardo. “It’s time that these dedicated employees share fully in the success they’ve been so instrumental in creating. That simply means the industry’s best labor agreement."

The TWU-IAM Association represents more than 30,000 ground workers at American Airlines and is the largest union at the carrier. The Association’s leadership and membership is anxious to begin joint contract talks so their compensation is directly reflective of the airline’s success.
