My Data is that when the TWU allowed some 727s to be outsourced to Delta years ago they came back in lousy condition.  I personally found an aileron cable wrapped around another cable and had to replace both cables.  That was just one problem on one of the airplanes they "Overhauled" for us.  Anyone who worked 727 heavy C in the 80s will remember these pieces of junk that Delta gave us back.  It took us 2 weeks on each of them to get them to where our test pilots would release them for revenue flights.  About 10 years ago Delta sent us several components to overhaul in my shop so we did.  When we sent them back they were amazed that we could actually fix them.  They also offered that they got half of the reliability from them than we did.  So ours flew twice as long as theirs.  Then Delta management balked at paying the labor fee.  I witnessed these things so your stats don't mean squat.  Also the fact that you know nothing about aircraft or powerplant maintenance but continue to post your crap about Delta and how superior they are to everyone on an American Airlines blog shows you are looking for trouble.  Go fly a kite.  My cousin did work for Delta for many years.  He started throwing bags and retired as a gate agent.  He was very happy to get out and does not have much good to say about it.  As far as any Delta mechanics who are offended, If you worked on 727s for us or worked on the components that they sent us then you are a sorry excuse for a mechanic and should find another job.  Of course not everyone there is incompetent but someone sure crossed those cables and someone inspected them and signed them off.  Of course you would know nothing about any of this WT because you know nothing about what it takes to work in the airline industry.  All I know is if I was doing work for another airline I would make sure they got a quality product back.  The crap we got back from them showed me they didn't care.  No way anyone can justify that so Delta guy go ahead and get mad.  Of course we did notice the paint job on the airplanes was exceptional so they covered a turd with gold leaf and called it good.  Pretty sorry and no excuse.  Now will you go away and leave us alone?  Go to the Delta blog and tell them how great they are.  You are a pest.  As far as TopDawg, My opinion is mine and I call em like I see em.  If we had sent back crap like Delta sent us you would be thinking the same thing about us and rightfully so.  Like I said.  I saw it with my own eyes and had to fix it after Delta did a heavy C on the airplanes.  If you want to counter with market share then go ahead.  All I know is Delta learned how to play the BK game better than anyone else.  I wouldn't be too proud of that. But like Forest Gump said, "That's all I got to say about that."  Now I will save myself from a high blood pressure problem and put WT on ignore like I should have long ago.  Go get a life you putz. 
If I remember right we traded that work with Delta, they did some of our 727's and we did some turbine work on ten or so of their JT8's that were fresh out of overhaul but they had mistakingly set the turbine spacing for a different dash model JT8.
 
As of 4/1/2015 the AMTO program will be modified to a post 7/21/2015 date. This means that any AMTO that is junior to that date will be moved the shops and any mechanic with pre 7/21/2015 will be working on the aircraft fully compensated with their license premium. The date the these people are moved is still 4/26/2015, which is 1 week after the Hangar 1&2 Shift pick. Whether they maintain their shift or not is unknown at this time.

Look for the silver lining, the guys that are going to afternoons are going HOME every night, where the AFW guys are going to their crash pads with 6 roommates, worried about if they're going to get on the over sold flt back to DFW, all the while trying to pay for this with a subpar contract voted in by mechs who live in an inexpensive state.

Which begs the question of why they stay.
 
At what point does paying living expenses for two domiciles and commuting back and forth become more of a burden than the job is worth?
 
I know not every situation is the same but I personally would not put up with that.

In no way are we forgetting the guys from AFW and how much its closing affected their lives, every day I feel a little bit more that TULE guys will be going through the same thing.  The point of this thread is how bad of a decision it is to move OSM's (who have their A&P)
out of overhaul to an OSM shop, and backfilling them with PALM people just to save $5 an hour for 90 or so people. It is an idea that will have a negative affect on the hangers performance and one step closer to becoming AFW.

That is 936k a year.
 
Almost a million dollars. From a business standpoint I would hardly call that insignificant.

The thing is over the last decade there has been very little shop to shop movement 
from the engine shop to the hanger & visa versa. 95% of the engine people have 
never worked in AO, what will be the cost of getting a bunch of 50 to 55 year old
mechanics up to speed. Instead you upgrade an osm who is already there who knows 
the work and will be pretty dam happy and productive with a $5 an hour raise

That all depends on where you live. For Texas and Oklahoma, it's great, but for NY and CA, whole different story.

The one thing I don't see is a suggestion of what would "even it out".
 
So................how much do you think you need to make for your standard of living to be on par with your peers?
 
Also if it sucks so bad to live in NY or CA due to cost of living (the two biggest libtard states) why don't you put in a transfer or find a new gig?
 
You knew the deal on your first year of the job. Why did you stay if you knew you never going to be happy with the pay?

Yes and No. I mean the 7/21/2015 date is the split. It is still seniority. As 7/21/2015, if you make the cut by seniority you can stay in the hangars. If not then you are going to be moved to the back shops with a loss in ticket premiums. Of course this is what I have been told.

I like where I live and I've been fortunate to have been able to purchase a nice house. The thing is that my wife makes a lot more than I do and we can afford what was a 400K mortgage 18 years ago, today it would be closer to 900K. I'll be at 29 years with AA in a few months so I was lucky to purchase a home when the prices more affordable. Now take a younger person just starting out, do you think he or she can afford a a nice house on their wages and not have to commute more than 70 miles one way?  Nope not happening.
