Well ya know, $80,000/yr doing what we do ain't bad!!!

Need to get out of that mindset. Not when FX and UPS AMT's are making 100K + Never let the TWU think you will settle for less

OH CRAP! Another "you can always move to Tulsa" person. You can take your statement and shove it!!
That is not very civil.

At any rate the option is open to you. You can't control the fact American Airlines does not offer Geo pay, but you can control to some extent your cost of living. At the end of the day there is no need to be rude because honestly, I don't care where you live. If your not happy with your current situation though it is prudent to explore alternatives.

Instead of telling me to "take my statement and shove it" why don't we try to hit this from a more constructive angle.

What would it take for you to feel like pay is "even" between yourself and your Tulsa peers?

Give a dollar amount.

In order for you to demand what you think is fair you need to be able to quantify it, so start there.

I like where I live and I've been fortunate to have been able to purchase a nice house. The thing is that my wife makes a lot more than I do and we can afford what was a 400K mortgage 18 years ago, today it would be closer to 900K. I'll be at 29 years with AA in a few months so I was lucky to purchase a home when the prices more affordable.
Most homeowners do like where they live. That's why they purchase homes there. Sometimes we pay a price to live where we want. Your price is less disposable income from your occupation.

900k sounds like a nice retirement egg to sell and move to a lower cost of living area.

Now take a younger person just starting out, do you think he or she can afford a a nice house on their wages and not have to commute more than 70 miles one way?  Nope not happening.
Most young people in ANY industry just starting out can't afford a nice home. They settle for what they can afford and work their way up. Do you live in some kind of fantasy world where people just getting their start live in 4 bedroom homes located in prime real estate?

You got offended by what I said to you.

To an extent I understand that. You have frustrations that you feel are not being heard.

However, at the end of the day you really only have 3 choices in your control.

1. Continue to be underpaid for the cost of living in your area
2. Move to a lower cost of living area
3. Quit and find a more lucrative vocation

Complaining about things outside of your control is a futile endeavour. To do so with no defined agenda is even more so.

FX and UPS are air freight companies not airlines.
And Southwest is what, performing more heavy checks than American? More pay better 401k matching.....

Thank you for clearing that up for us genious. I will have to take another look at my license for any hidden restrictions for working on freight carriers vs any other type of aircraft that flies and operates in the same mechanical manner as a commercial 757,767,777 or similar.

Exactly genius. FX and UPS haul freight, boxes, things that all can be replaced.  We (all airlines) haul people, passengers, humans, women, children, men, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles, mothers and fathers, college students, pets, grandparents, greatgrand parents etc., I think you get it by now.  We (mechanics) are responsible for all on board on every airworthy cert we sign off until that aircraft hits the grave sight or chopped up at the recycle unit.  Therefore we mechanics should be making well over FX and UPS.  Same thing goes for the pilots.  Both Pilots and Mechanics have a he!! of alot more responsibility at the passenger airlines then the same at the freight haulers period...

That may be so but compare the cost of an airline ticket to fly halfway across the United States to shipping something the same dimensions and weight as a human body. The profit margins are much higher for freight.

If responsibility equaled money teachers would be a lot better off.

Also if it sucks so bad to live in NY or CA due to cost of living (the two biggest libtard states) why don't you put in a transfer or find a new gig?

Would it be safe to say that the opposite of a Libtard is a Retard?

I visited the Tulsa Engine Shops tonight and there are about 60 total mechanics being surplussed from JT-8 and CFM-56 withb the most senior being about 88-89. At that time the machinist and welders were not mentioned. I then mentioned the machinist's and was told that Gary Yingst, the VP of TWU Local 514 was working on a deal to have the machinist sent to the back shops, like the seat shop. In Hangar 1&2 the talk has been the the removal of the AMTO program ( the SRP/OSM on the airplane ) at a certain date 7/21, being split between the shops and the aircraft? Those staying with the aircraft gaining their Premiums back??? No word has been mentioned on the Skill Premium of the machinist and or welder's  ( $3.00 ) whether they are retaining it or not.....

Well, Gary being a machinist and all (not to mention Dennis Burchetts partner in crime and also booted from the international for a Hawaiian flight domestic charge that got him banned from Hawaiian airlines..after all the scandals he was then re-elected as the 514 VP) I'm sure he's got something in the works for machinists.

And he got Re-elected?

Tulsa, you cease to amaze sometimes!

Not so fast

He actually lost first, and then by some alleged under handed election committee move, he then won.

Typical TWU balloting
