Tulsa AMT movement.

Apples and Apples, Not Apples to Carrots!!!

The company would give you the UPS Contract in a New York Minute!!!
1/3 of the 1000 AMT's are Part Time! Do You want that in your CBA?
3/4 of the 1000 AMT's go TDY from Thankgiving until Christmas Eve. Ready for a Four Week Road Trip. Do You want that in your CBA?
We have Part Time in our contract.

Explain the TDY.

Bob,
I know that UPS has overhaul costs, the fact is they are lower by virtue of all overhaul being outsourced.

UPS has never had overhaul in house, so how do you close that cost gap (advantage to UPS)? Will you negotiate different wages for overhaul? Remember the Wall Street types don't care about that AA is making high profits now, they will look at AA's costs for aircraft maintenance are higher than others. Investors don't like that. While I agree we should be paid top dollar I have yet to see a coherent and executable plan from you.

I am not saying that we should outsource or take lower wages. Quite the contrary, I am excited about the future TA that will be negotiated by the 591 dream team. Isn't it important to at least know all the information before spouting spurious data?

And 35% of all maintenance costs will allow you to outsource all of overhaul? Did you fail math class? AA is almost at 30% now. 35% is $700M, if AA dumps all of TULE, DWH, and TAESL that's about $300M in labor alone. That would push AA past 50% outsourcing. As Treasurer is there a test for understanding how to do basic math problems you have to pass?

I think he is using a military term. In the Navy, we used the term TAD, which  was a temporary duty assignment at a station other than your home base.

I will bring this back to topic! The TWU Local 514 mysteriously showed up in Hangar 1&2, now that's a Tulsa Movement....

TDY is Temporary Duty
You can be moved from shift to shift via TDY. Yes a 27 year AMT can be moved to Midnights with a weeks notice.

Doing a comparison to UPS isn't realistic. Most stations are staffed with only One AMT on duty. Where does that happen at AA or US?? It Doesn't !!

FYI the contract that saw the largest increase in UPS wages came at the hands of a Former IAM educated IBT president.

Explain to me where there are Part Time AMT's??

Less flights, less cycles, less wear and tear on the plane and its systems and parts.

Most cargo planes for UPS fly one to three legs a day compared to a passenger plane.
And you know this first hand by what experience?

N617P,
You're right about UPS, they do staff low at many stations. It's common knowledge that the way in to the door at UPS as an AMT is start and work part time for a year or so and then get a full time position. Most that go to UPS work another job full time until they get called up to full time.

The TWU agreement has had part time in the CBA for over twenty years. It is a carry over from all groups being in one book. Fuelers and Ramp have had part time usage in their groups for years. I have never heard of a part time AMT at AA ever. I don't understand why the TWU hasn't had it removed yet.

Do they have a cabin filled of seats and PSUs?

Do they have full galleys?

More than one lav?

On the lav you are correct. However, I have worked both passenger and cargo with freighters they have cargo locks and cargo handling systems that break all the time. Another thing is cargo birds usually sit over the weekends this is not a good thing. Planes like to fly when they sit for long periods they usually develop leaks either fuel or hydraulic happens a LOT so to say cargo planes are easier to maintain is wrong.

AA TUL worked cargo/freightliners Heavy Cs (FEDX) and military cargo/freightliners back in the day.
We also did heavy Cs on UPS 727s about 30 years ago.  AA ran them off just like they ran FED X off.  Both were very happy with the work done and the price.  AA decided to get rid of the work and use that as leverage in contract negotiations.  Now the new shysters running the airline say they only want to work on AA stuff but they don't even want to do that.

True. We lost Omni, Fedex, Hawaiian, Alaskan and our military cargo A/C contracts also. I heard we lost Fedex because no one was clocking in and out on our work done on Fedex. Then we took a class many months (after Fedex was in house) on how to clock in and out on work done on non AA carriers. After getting near free maintenance on Fedex then they received our late (real bill) the shock factor hit em and they dropped us like a rock. This is what I heard from the big wigs anyhow.

That could be true.  I never heard that, but they ran Fed Ex off one of the times because we were coming up for contract talks and they got rid of the work.  We did Fed Ex work two or three different times.

We lost FedEx because management didn't know how to run AA MRO properly. Customers like dour work and were willing to pay for the quality. Allegiant and others left because AA didn't know how to bill
