Tulsa AMT movement.

That is a nice sentiment but if that is all there was to it than American Eagle mechanics would make American Airlines mechanic pay.
Why? American Eagle Pilots do not. The mechanics at American Eagle work on a different class of aircraft etc.. General Aviation gets paid differently . My point is that within my and possibly your craft and class, we perform maintenance on Commercial Aviation Aircraft.  Please explain why the freighters can pay their mechanics more wages and have better benefits?

Because you have Tulsa and aircraft overhaul. Get rid of them both (and the TWU), and isolate the AMT into one craft and class, and you will have the recipe.

Because UPS has a different business model just like American Eagle has a different business model.

They have different cost strategies.

I have no better answer for you than that. UPS simply feels that paying their A&P's their current rate and benefits is a justifiable business cost.

Your case for justifying UPS pay was that you had similar responsibilities.

Mechanics work on airplanes, the purpose is to keep them airworthy, right? If you are transporting people or freight, it does not matter, if either falls from the sky, people die.
What you stated could just as easily be applied to the mechanics of American Eagle. Their purpose is to keep them airworthy right? If it falls from the sky people die.

When you look at what you do and what an American Eagle mechanic does you both share a similar responsibility load.

I am not saying I agree with American Airlines choice. I for one am thankful when I get on an American Airlines aircraft that qualified, experienced people in the UNITED STATES maintain.

It makes me feel more confident about my safety, especially coming from TULE, because I see first hand what goes into maintaining one.

I for one believe you should be well compensated for that but, I don't define cost strategies at American Airlines either.

I should make you aware I did work at the Tulsa maintenance base but as a Fleet Service Clerk. I am not an A&P (or even an OSM).

I just wanted to be upfront so you knew exactly who you were talking to.

Let that influence your opinion of what I said how it may.

There is probably some truth to that, as far as the bought and paid for TWU anyway.

I have been an advocate of removing the TWU for more than 25 years. As for Tulsa and Overhaul, I would have just done what a large percentage A&P Mechanics do, follow the work or change professions. Tulsa and Overhaul had become a thorn in the Line Mechanics side because the type of unionism played by the TWU. Not all of the mechanics in Tulsa were against you ( Line ), but a large majority of the Machinist's and Welder's etc... Since the beginning of my career and my association with the TWU, I can only recall one specific non A&P working in the Turbine Building  that has held his beliefs and stayed true to the cause of removing the TWU. Now that the Line has become stronger the Base Maintenance, I guess all of Tulsa gets thrown to the curb? As for the Fleet Service, ask the TWU? Being bought and paid for by the TWU? It is the membership who has allowed it to happen and the Line is in part the TWU.

My guess TULE stay but smaller, two reasons, too big an asset to let go, and the line stations are shorthanded.

Isom wants a scope of 100% line and 50% OH. I don't see the line making a big sacrifice again to save all OH.

Unless they move OH to MIA.....

Or CLT, PHX, DWH, PIT a combination of all? That is the big question they will not answer at the town halls and IMO one or two bases will go away and also IMO it will be the ones NOT at a Hub.. It may take a few years but Heavier Maintenance Will consolidate to a few line locations..

it won't be dwh. We are nothing more than a line Hangar operation. No docking and no overhaul support shops.

Here is where TULE has had the advantage and possibly why TULE was selected over AFW? Tulsa, will do just about anything to keep AA. The facility belongs to Tulsa, but American pays little if anything for it. I am just guessing, but I would say that Landing Fees at Tulsa are cheaper than any other major Hub city?

It looks like the theory of a compact overhaul is happening, with at this point, the 737 being the major focus. The 757 and the 767 are are here but to a much smaller existent. On the horizon the Airbus A321 ? will make it's mark but that is in the future. The fleet training is focused on the 737.

Couldn't AA just use the hangars from DFW, since DFW management can't work with the DFW mechs as well as DWH or MIA. Stations that get the work done done, get the work.

Seems like there is plenty room in DFW not sure about CLT. It's too bad that the executives can't troubleshoot, then they would know it's the local management not the mechs with the bad work ethic. Kind of like that CLT mech said, CLT is a good station once that manager left, kind of like MIA, now mia is the station where the work goes to.

If someone could..............

In the picture, under the "AA", how many aircraft does that hangar hold?  Also what is done in the main building on the left and right of the open hangar doors?  What are the other out buildings, and just how many people work at this facility?

Thanks in advance!

Here's a view of the entire base.
