reserves f/a's are sitting in phl

this really sucks. nearly all the reserves are sitting in phl . no one is flying. something has got to be done about this stupid system we have here on the east side of ops. how unproductive and inefficient it is to pay these f/a's to sit around . something's got to give. it's scary because it looks like we are over staffed.
Wake up and smell the coffee! The Union has been stating this point for QUITE some time......with 300 plus people coming back in Dec the situation will ONLY get worse. The LTO system is not designed for ANYONE (incl you) to get your time in. This system is very inefficient, counterproductive and strikes a blow at morale that will need to be addressed before ANYTHING ever changes in the F/A position.

I do agree that we have the most ineffeicient system of any airline. The question is how they are going to change it? I'm sure that USwest does not have hundreds of people just sitting around. Any idea how the west system works?

Seems I'm not the only one sitting around wishing someone would call in sick. I'm on reserve in STL this month. I have flown a total of 5 days--one 3day and one 2day trip. I've not even had to sit standby at the airport yet this month. When I was based at DFW, on reserve months I usually did standby duty at the airport at least 2 and sometimes 3 times during the month.

One of the advantages (or disadvantages according to your point of view) of reserve in a fairly junior base is that people can't afford to call in sick on a whim. Most people show up to work and fly their trips. But, it does mean a lot of sitting around on reserve. Since 1900 last night, they have used exactly 1 reserve f/a.

Oh well, I guess I should be grateful that I only have to serve reserve 3 months per year. I do think that AA does the reserve thing better than any other airline.

I'm starting to consider rotating reserve.

i totally agree. rotating reserve would be a great idea. and pit ,your right . i could pick up etb trips. but that's on my days off. i would like to be home with my family on my days off. as would everyone else. why do they need 300 reserves on duty all at once? it just doesen't make sense to me. but then again, what does in this company?

One of the main resons we are all sitting is because the union and company only put in half of the formula. This new reserve systems was designed to compliment Pref. Bidding. This new system will never work until they put that in. The union doesn't want Pref Bid, so they stalled on it. The sad part is that they let thye company put this reserve system in and not pushed Pref Bid to go in at the same time. What a pathetic thing that our union has let happen. I'd like to take them all out behind the hanger for some one on one time.

When commuting to PHL the other day to occupy my crashpad for 7 days I was listening to these old goats talking about how they were able to drop this and that and only had to fly this many hours for the month. Ya know, I agree that with seniority you get better trips, schedules, holidays off etc..... but where is the cut off point for being senior. The blockholders here at US east have not endured "IN NO WAY" what we reserves have. Now that some are finding themselves on reserve they are asking questions and look like a deer in headlights. There has to be something we can do. I was displaced in June of 2003 and unline the last round to get kicked out of PIT we were offered NOTHING to relocate due to VF's. I don't want to work an ETB trip on my days off as I sit all my days away as it is. I didn't ask for this when I accepted a position as a f/a. To make comments that we make the choice to do this is unfair. There are many in other union groups that are FORCED to do things that they never planned or imagined they would.

Did they lose flying time out of PHL? It is amazing that all summer they couldnt cover their trips, now all of the sudden they are overstaffed? We all know the reserves in PIT are sitting, but it shocks me to read this about PHL.

We've also parked how many mainline airplanes since the summer. That is why there is a "surplus" of flight attendants.

And the parking continues. A Feb pilot base bid just came out that cuts 8 lines from PHL, 7 from CLT, 3 from PIT, & 3 from DCA - all 737. It does add 3 lines to the CLT 767I.

I think that some or even alot of the f/a's that are coming back in Dec are gonna take the VFLR that the company will be offering in 06. I know that there was one that accepted the callback(they were Invol furloughed) just so they could take the VFLR. They took their $10,000 and got out. So, I would not be surprized if alot of the ones coming back in Dec do the same.

Will they be eligible to apply for that? I remember there being a big stink over the last one, those f/a's that had just returned were not eligible to apply.

I sure wish they would get their butts on the ball with this, instead of leaving everyone in limbo. With PHL now sitting, PIT at 44% of the base on reserve.

Do we know for sure that another buy out will be offered? And if so will it be across the board? I'm sure that USwest has people that will take the money and run.

get a life get a hobby take a walk go to the city...move to PHL get another job...holding a block is overated where else are you going to get paid to not work...learn the system then make it work for you...if your that un happy with your job make changes...there is life out side of the airline...look for another... that will make you see how good you have it here...there are lot's of ways to stay busy make money and pass the time sitting RSV think good thoughts...don't mean to be nasty but as bad as it looks we are very lucky...just look around at others and the crappy jobs without benefits...

If there was a buy out in the west, I think a few people would take it. The average age of our top fa's are in their mid- 40's.. so we won't be seeing an onslaught of retirements due to age. However I think we have some people that are just done.

The f/a that just came back this past May 1st were able to take the VFLR. I know one that did and they are only 4 months senior to me.(I am still involuntary furlough) It is in the contract that they have to offer another VFLR..so yes in 06 there will be another one.
