reserves f/a's are sitting in phl

Again, I explain. This new system was designed to work with Pref. Bid. Put the other half of the equation in and it just might work. I went to every roadshow in CLT, got informed and voted. Only problem is, what we voted on, our union conveiniently let the company not put it all in. Here's an idea, since we don't get Pref. Bid, let's "snap back" to the old reserve system. Remeber the joke, "we will have Pref. Bid no later than June 2004". Where the hell is it? What a freakin joke that was. Ok ,no Pref. Bid, then snap back to the old reserve system. I know, "Shut up, you are just a reserve" Heard it before. But not to worry, we kept the bid sheet, SAP, and secondary lines, but got rid of reserve override. Next time, grease the pole. Alot of union people just don't hold up to their end of the bargain. Also, on the next contract, I'm pushing for reserve vacation time to be above guarantee, what a waste it is now. I got in trouble one time for offering to take our LEC behind the hanger and have a little talk, just some one on one time. One good thing, Christmas falls on a Sunday this year, so guess what. Any of you BH have a trip out Sat or Sun, you gots to touch it. I almost shed a tear for ya(NOT). Welcome to our world. Andy, is there a screen that shows how much time a BH has? Something similar to our screen 18. I don't think there is. It is tough to find out which BH are overflying. I think that if someone overflys, it should be deducted from their time the next month. The company doesn't push this because they just want all the trips covered.

The only way I know of to check the BH monthly time is by looking at the monthly report that is kept in the base crew room.

It is assinine to not get vacation pay above and beyond the 71. What good is vacation if you:
a. Get it on a scheduled off day
b. Don't get paid for it...?

AFA reps????

One thing that came the reserves way is the ability to slide your days off from your vacation. If you have any days off that are over vacation they have to slide the days off to either the beginning or the end of your vacation. All it does though is raise your LTO and prevent you from flying though. For the month of November I had a weeks vacation. So it prevented me from flying until a few days before Thanksgiving. That is productive? We accrue vacation yet we don't get paid for it as a reserve. That is not right and who agreed to that? The reserves? Doubtfull!!!! If you work 40 hours for example and had a weeks vacation your check is still for 71 hours. What is the point of vacation then?

Assinine is an understatment. There really is NO benefit to vac other then some time off, as a reserve. I have found it best to bid your vac at the beginning of the month, then at least you fall into a LTO "slot" right off the bat. You could end up with alot more time off this way. This seems to work well in PIT where there isnt alot of open time avl for reserves. You are right there basically is no pay for vacation.

The “scale†was set the day less than half of the flight attendants voted on the agreement on the table. Nothing is going to change until we take responsibility for our actions. Why don’t you say things like…â€if only I had gone to the AFA roadshows†or “Next time I will read the entire agreement, rather than ask my friends how I should vote†(one of our f/a’s actually said that to a news reporter, sad)

I believe in working very hard and it has paid off for me, this came in today’s mail…â€

CONGRATULATIONS!! …on winning the Service Superstars Award and thank you for the outstanding service you provide to our customers…you and one eligible family member listed on your travel privilege will receive a FREE ROUNDTRIP positive space ticket, FIRST CLASS (domestic, including the Caribbean) or positive space coach (international) on US Airways to the destination of your choice…

The Union has nothing to do with what type of “work-ethic†you have as a person. But some people, and you know who you are, use the Union as a copout for doing a poor job because they know how difficult it is to get booted. Yea I’m sitting reserve but I use the time to my advantage and get some things done I can’t attend to while flying.

We should be pushing AFA and the company to penalize the f/a’s that overfly preventing the time from trickling down to the reserves. Or better yet, not allowing scheduling to allow the f/a’s get the trips if they have met the monthly obligation maximums. If you want me to address the issue with the leadership I would be happy to champion this, but saying that the system stinks like you are the victim of someone’s evil plan to inconvenience you is just crap. Why would the company release you if they have to pay you the 71 hour guarantee? Would you forfeit your pay for the days that you would have been AVL to be released?

(For those of you reading this that don’t understand the aviation industry, the guarantee of 71 hours amounts to a gross monthly pay of $2,123.61 to $2668.89 based on tenure with the company for about 19 days to be on call, $111.73/day minimum)

Andy you are right...think you missed the point of my post...it was from another post...you do work hard and you do a very nice job...I just flew with you it was nice you do the work of 3 f/a's I was able to take a break...not being a smart ass you do a fine job as a f/a...

That's something I don't understand. If going into invol. days, and you are number 200 or more why can't you get released a day early? It would help in picking up ETB trips.
I remember a USAir newsletter that quoted webster's "reserve" something to sit on a shelf untill needed...kinda like having a lawyer on retainer...you are PAID to sit untill needed deal with it or get a real job...

A reserve can slip vacation days ONLY if they are 7 or more.
As for sitting around collecting my "free" check....I want to work and earn the 100-110 hour paycheck I was getting this summer. A 71 hour paycheck with no per diem, lead pay, etc. looks a hell of a lot smaller than 71 hours worked.
I just flew a SEA two day(ETB of course) and the BH on the trip has 100 hours vacation in Jan. He plans to pick up 100 hours of ETB. Yes, I'm jealous, but the guy flies 160 every month to begin with. The guy is effectively flying 2 shifts a month!

We 89 reserves here in Pit are finding it very funny of all the new ex blockholders who are now on rsv. They sure did not give a damn back in 03 when the lto went into effect. Now they can enjoy what we have been dealing with for the past two years. I was a blockholder during the vote and the main reason i voted know was because i saw how the rsvs were going to get screwed. As others said "oh as long as we can keep that damn bid sheet who cares about those rsvs." Well welcome to our world, enjoy it, its a hell of alot of fun. Better find a part-time job.

As for slipping days off over vacation, I had 6 vacation days and had my days slid off of my vacation to the beginning AND the end. The only thing that happens though is even if the days off over your vacation are INV they all become regular OFF days when moved off of your vacation.

N109UW I agree completely about the snap-back idea. During the road shows here in PHL I asked just that question about what happened to the Pref-Bid and you should have seen the AFA panel’s faces. Ms. Austin gave me some song about how the company and AFA came to some agreement that to have the PB would be cost prohibitive “blahâ€￾ Blahâ€￾ BLAHâ€￾ then she opened her mouth and stuck her foot in it by telling the group that AFA had gotten some type of “CREDITâ€￾ for not implementing the PB. I asked where my refund check was, they didn’t like that at all.

We really have to get rid of those same OLD F/A’s that sit on the AFA and collect our $$$. One thing to consider about PB is that if it were to be implemented there may have been many more furloughs. Remember that AFA is a business also. They have to keep a certain amount of dues coming in to cover cost and pay the officers. I bet that was the real reason behind not getting the PB here at USA.

Andy, you should know that the union takes care of the top 10% of the membership...
