I am sure that this thread will close if the posters continue with name calling.
It is easy to get emotional, but try to stick to the topic when posting B) and leave the side remarks...as a PM.
With "Lovethesun" did I hit a nerve? Sorry. Hey, if the comments fit, take a breather.
I am certain PitBull would agree, communicating at the union level can be pretty pathetic, though not nearly as bad as with the company.
When I was active in the union, I forced myself to call, at least once a week, someone (different each week) I knew disagreed with me. I tried to listen to them, for as long as they wanted, a minute to literally hours. I took copious notes. It was the hardest thing I could think of to do, but, whether they agreed with me or not, they at least knew where I was coming from. They had a voice and were welcome to change my viewpoints. Heck, I'd have loved to have just slid through life on their opinions, not having to engage our minds. Curse my mum (just a metaphor), I'm not like that, however.
Lately, I've seen a lot of that, just sliding through life without a thought as to where you are going. A bright spot is the NWA attendants.
If you wish to see a version of your future, read, "Take This Job And Ship It" by Senator Byron L. Dorgan. If you think you are immune from outsourcing with your crewmember job, think again. You are about to be replaced. (Fight deck crewmembers are also not immune.) You need a strong union, willing to go to the mat for everyone and not just "the good ole' boys/girls". You need an engaged group, a group that can balance the needs of the reserve against others. You need supervisors who were actually practiced at the job they supervise. You should demand a middle management that views the end-user employee as an asset and not a liability. That would make a major change (cut) in your cost structure. (Watch A&E's airline to see how SWA gets by with minimal middle management. If you don't get it, call me.)
This airline
should have tremendous upside. The fact that upside has not been taken advantage of is indicative of the direction your misguided directors are going. In an upswing economy, that will be suicide.
I like my drink with extra ice and a lime Ed, just a not from those who pay your salary.
When you sober up, I'll happily engage you. 'til then, ta ta!
