I'd go for observers at the table and a coordinated communication plan to inform the membership before voting. We need face to face Q&A this time. No mailers, no videos, stand in front of us and face the membership.
wow , we can agree on something

The way Parker makes it sound in his state of the airline speech is that talks between AA and the Association have already started...

Parker said "if i give you the money now, I would never get a contract"    IN my opinion that means the money is already  a done deal and concessionary language needs to be worked in to agreement.

Absolutely! If we just got the money, we could drag on talks and live under the current contracts indefinitely.....You are so right.....There WILL be changes in return for DL + 7.....My bet is on work rule changes and more outsourcing..Although our current CBA still allows for more.
If we are going to refer to the pilots and F/A's.....They agreed to changes as well.

The problem is the TWU would APPOINT observers of their liking.

Thank you for your input on this matter. We will now look at alternative options.
There will never be observers as far as the IAM is concerned. Never have Never will. For good reason, because they are an interference in so many ways.

All due respect, but you're dead wrong. The idea that an engaged membership is seen as an "interference" is emblematic of all that is wrong with organized labor.
Totally agree Kev.

Funny, this was the quote from the TWU after the TA was rejected overwhelmingly at Southwest by the FAs:
“Our membership has given us our marching orders. The terms of the tentative agreement were passionately discussed, debated and ultimately rejected by the employees. Democracy works best when members take an active role in their union.”

That rejection would have Never happened with observers in negotiations, because the TA would have never happened.

If the TWU really, REALLY wants members to be engaged, then let's get observers in the room, now.

What's that TWU? You don't really want the members engaged, at least not that engaged,
You just want us to nod our heads in agreement , because , you know, they are the smartest guys in the room.

Remember the twu is betting on the members that will believe in voting YES to any contract as long as it saves jobs. That is one of the many problems we have experienced in the past and now we have the association to wonder about.

I've agreed with you over the years in a lot of ways but we shall take different sides on this issue. You have reps that negotiate for you and have some training in negotiations. How much engagement do we need at the table?. Negotiating is very Tactical and my perception ( from the IBT point of view, who btw has had some of the best contracts in the industry in yrs past ) is that there is no need for overseers. Both unions have lawyers to oversee things. JMHO
