Machinists Union Merger Update

Air Canada secured the work that US previously sent to ST MAE.

For the 20th time US does all the A320 family overhaul in-house and 50% of the 737s, vendored out is all the A330, B757/767 and the remaining 50% of the 737s.

It took two bankruptcies and three rounds of concessions for US to be able to outsource the work.

Can't say the same about the IBT contract because for the past 10 years the IBT has not been able to secure any heavy maintenance.

The company reaffirmed the IAM concessionary contract and US is no longer in Bankruptcy, so the judge has no say in the matter.

Don't let the facts get in your way.

where does AC do the maintaince at? is it a hangar at one of their hubs? also for the heavy maintaince, is that where they strip the plane down to bare bones and fix what needs to be fixed?

Air Canada does heavy mtc in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

The first time?

If it is the first time then please explain to me the current IBT/HP Mechanic Contract that they are working under.

I doubt that the IBT was certified in 1995, you have had at least one if not two contracts by now.

Don't let the facts get in your way.

theres hot rumors of timco taking PIT fab sometime after the first of the year.....re-move back to clt....U leases are month to month here so its anybodys guess.

Just to clarify delldude.....you could be correct on the time frame, but I was informed that TIMCO wants something in place by the END of the year....Also was told that there remains a possibility of PIT QEC being moved back to the SSB building in PIT, although I highly doubt that scenario with the building in CLT still being on the scene..Also, HJ Heinz company is reported to be interested in Hangar 6(stores), in PIT...if that were the case, they would have to move into SSB....Thats what I'm hearing....

Do some research and read HP contract was done Oct 8 1998 not in 1995 as you stated. You might get some facts if you go to>>>>>

Alot quicker at a third party vendor than inhouse, simply because they don't FIX everything thats wrong.  Their family doesn't fly around the country on these planes. Sad but True. :(

Learn to read I said CERTIFIED in 1995, never said anything about when you obtained a contract.

how long does it take an experienced mechanic (s) to do the job properly?

The usual timeframe for a full-blown Heavy Check (Q or S) is 45 days...but many factors drive the actual return to service date.

(1) Issues being found during the inspection phase (Cracks, Fatigue,Corrosion)
(2) Parts availability when the non-routine is discovered
(3) How many parts are robbed from the Check Acft to keep line acft flying.
(4) Tooling issues.( are they available or out for vendor repair/re-calibration)
(5) Proper staffing levels and all 3 shifts...including the weekends
(6) Actually repairing noted defects as opposed to "Pencil Whipping" them.
(7) Is a Landing Gear or Engine Changes involved?)
(8) Is thier E.O's or MODS involved in the check package?

Any one of the above issues can affect an aircrafts scheduled return to service date.

Yes you did say 95 but it was 96 and contract in 98 get your facts Right. IBT was not voted in intell after 95. See your facts are wrong again. Dec of 95 was when they laidoff/fired 500 tech in Phx.

Under the IBT HP contract, GSE and Plant MTC mechanics earn less then AMTs.

At US under the IAM contract all mechanics have the same base rate of pay.
