Industrial vs. Craft

I do not believe they have ever had one. They have been represented by the Teamsters longer than AMFA.

SWA has never had lay-offs. Although they have had early retirement encentives along with buy-outs to reduce the number of employees. Some people, as I have heard, say they feel that this is a form of rif's, and it is not. Generally when your riffed it is not by choice or with a buy-out package as well as they all get to keep their bennies as long as their numbers add up (you know age and service years).
Rumers on the floor are flying that folks are hearing of another early-out like "Freedom-09" Some are saying it will be when all the dust settles from transitioning AT into SWA, so maybe a time frame of 2-3 years, who knows.

Everyone, anamoly isn't here to influence anyone.

Again anamoly, if you're so proud of the teamsters come out into the light and state your name. You talk loud but you talk only what you are told to speak.

Yes, the FAILURE of the teamsters at Horizon.

Since the ibt took over, Horizon has lost over 30% of their mechanics.

BTW furloughs are furloughs, paying someone to go who was in most cases already going anyway doesn't change that. The ibt couldn't stop the layoffs at Horizon period.

You highlighted "RIGHT AFTER" the teamsters took over.....really?

ibt was certified in April of 2009 .... go ahead and remind us when Horizon outsourced their Heavy Maintenance?

Spin all you wish, the teamsters promised the world during the Horizon campaign...fresh off the UAL victory, the snake oil was flying, Now you want to try and say oh the outsourcing was announced "RIGHT AFTER" they got there? So what(not that its true)? You're the mighty mighty teamsters, why didn't you stop it? Horizon was in negotiations....the ibt has ALL THOSE RESOURCES, that on-hand LEGAL STAFF, answer the question...why didn't you stop it?

And while you're at it, explain to all the AMTs on this board, why after all the chest thumping you've done on the detriment of outsourcing, you are still here championing a "union" that crafted an LOA and AGREED IN WRITING TO ALLOW THE OUTSOURCING OF HEAVY MAINTENANCE and if that wasn't bad enough, the ibt AGREED IN WRITING to never speak against it in public!

Oh sure you'll promise the world to get cards signed.....then what? Whats going to be your excuse if you were to get in at American and can't stop the layoffs/outsourcing? "Sorry, its not our fault its the TWU contract"

Maybe you should also explain why the ibt squandered the perfect opportunity to flex that ibt muscle in defense of the mechanics. The PILOTS at Horizon are teamsters. Why didn't they stand for the mechanics, and show some of that - often mentioned/never seen - teamster solidarity?

And please, spare me the pilot photo ops with the AMTs, the ibt had a real chance to make a statement with the pilots standing with the mechanics and they wasted it......maybe it was because the pilots at the time had been without a contract for over 4 years.....yea teamster power there!

I am a Horizon mechanic 4 years. I signed a card to get amfa back. We had a vote but the ibt won. We all knew the heavy checks would be sent to Idaho and there would be a lot of guys loosing their jobs. We all knew about this even when amfa was our union and some of the guys thought the teamster could stop it even though amfa said there was nothing anybody could do about it. Heavy checks were going to be sent to Idaho, and we sold all the rj jets. We all knew a lay off was coming. The teamsters did not stop the lay offs but they did manage to really piss off the company. They made us look bad to alaska air and some people think it was the teamsters that made our ceo get fired. It was funny and cool whet they did. We did not have any contract for money during lay offs, and the teamsters did get us that. They also forced the company to allow everyone who wanted to take the money that they could go. The company tried to block some people from leaving, but the teamsters lawyers won. Because of that, they had to sign an agreement that they would never do this again. Our guys got there money so nobody cared. And the agreement was just for the c checks, so i think it is ok to piss off the company again if we have too.
I saw the picture with the mechanic and the pilots. It was at the alaska air stock meeting and the teamsters wanted a whole bunch of mechanics to show up because we were loosing the checks. None of us thought it would do any good so only one mechanic showed up. They did get about 50 pilots to help us though and that is the picture. The mechanic is our past chief stewart and all the pilots. It was cool.
Some of us signed amfa cards because we were tired of all the crap. we found out that if the amfa looses then they can not come back for 2 years. We were all just tired of everything, The teamsters are doing ok. But the amfa costs a little bit less.

Then why in post #311 did you ask " Why don't you ask the SWA mechanics how many lay offs they have had to endure?????"

Looks like there is about to be a layoff at SWA....

only it the Teamsters alliance partner TWU that is about to suffer the loss.

The TWU just needs some of that awesome Anomaly vetted Teamsters power and cash and everything will be all good again

Interesting....according to Anomaly the ibt didn't find out about the outsourcing at Horizon til "RIGHT AFTER" they took over. Now you say that you knew when you were under AMFA.

One would think this would've come up during the campaign if there was a lingering threat of furlough, yet absoulutely no mention of it in any of the ibt flyers, or videos produced during the Horizon campaign, or associated materials.

Thanks for confirming that the ibt did infact squander the opprotunity to make a stand with the pilots and perhaps - for once - live up to their hype about stopping outsourcing.

Nevermind the fact that the champions of stopping outsourcing to MROs cut a deal that ensured no grievances and no public statements about the outsourcing. Thats how your fellow mechanics got their seperation packages.

Please forgive my skepticism, but I'm understandbly curious, did you just find this site, or did Dave tell you to visit the American AMFA threads?

To all you AA Mechanics. I am an AMFA Member (for those that want to know #000212) Don`t believe all you hear about amfa. IT IS NOT A GOOD CHOICE !!!

Thanks Jet Wash. I stand corrected. It was my impression that the formal plans for the outsourcing of the C checks was revealed during the beginning stages of negotiations. No disrespect, but how do you explain your comment "We all knew the heavy checks would be sent to Idaho".

You also mentioned that the Teamsters "did manage to really piss off the company." Could you please elaborate on that?

Finally, do you know if AMFA is still pushing their campaign promises at Horizon? Or did they get the clue when you all slammed the door on them?

I tip my hat to you sir.

I have been saying just that for over 220 posts now. Maybe I should have just come out and said it just like you?

I agree completely.

Leave it to the other United Teamster to pick this guy apa rt.

Squandered the opportunity? This guy (or girl? sorry?) clearly stated that only one Mechanic showed up to the "Mechanics Protest" and he was accompanied by 50 Pilots. What the hell are you talking about? Sounds like the Pilots and the one Mechanic stood together in solid Teamster support.

Also, maybe you missed it, but apparently nether AMFA nor the Teamsters could find any language in the contract to abort the outsourcing. Without language in the contract, and only one Mechanic showing up at the Mechanic Protest.... what do you want?

Third Seat Zero, are you sure YOU are not paid to be here? Your twists on everyone who opposes your AMFA inventions are stuff of legions. Let me dissect just one example.

So what do these to articles say about your little spin?

They tell me that your are something less than HONEST. Your a damn LIAR.

Either that, or I was correct the first time. You have a personal agenda. Why else would you spend so much time here? Pot/Kettle, yeah, I know, but it hurts, dont it?

BTW; Who first told you to check out the American Airlines Boards?

Come on brother Teamster, level with us. What's your end game?

Breaking NEWS: Third Seat Zero. Caught in another LIE.

Airline Mechanics, Community Activists Take Protest to Portland Rose Festival
PORTLAND, Ore., June 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hundreds of Teamsters, with support from Portland Jobs With Justice, protested today against Horizon Air's plans to fire nearly 100 experienced aircraft maintenance workers at the Rose Festival's annual Grand Floral Parade. The company plans to outsource heavy maintenance work in Portland to an out-of-state subcontractor.

Horizon Air, owned by Alaska Air Group [NYSE: ALK], is a sponsor of the 2010 Portland Rose Festival.
The Teamsters and their allies distributed balloons and unveiled a 20-foot banner that read "Horizon Air: Destroying Portland Jobs Won't Fly."
"Horizon Air claims that it cares about the Portland community and its employees here, and it wants us to believe it shares a unique bond with Portland's Rose Festival," said Capt. David Bourne, Director of the Teamsters Airline Division. "But sending 100 highly skilled jobs to another state is not the way to treat this community."
"Unemployment is now up to 11 percent around here," said Rich Chase, a Horizon Air mechanic from Portland. "Portland needs good jobs now more than ever. I don't understand how Horizon can sponsor the Rose Festival and build a big float while they're stabbing us in the back."
The protesters also collected thousands of signatures from parade watchers on a petition demanding that Horizon and Alaska Air rethink their decision to terminate mechanics' jobs.
Founded in 1903, the Teamsters Union represents more than 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Then why in post #311 did you ask " Why don't you ask the SWA mechanics how many lay offs they have had to endure?????"

It was a guess. I was not able to find any data at all that there had ever been a lay off at SWA. My point is, SWAMT, seems to discuss issues he is unfamiliar with at his present company.
