Having been represented by the TWU in both Ramp and AC Maint.; you guys have got to be out of your freakin’ minds to even contemplate TWU Representation.
1) One side of the pro-IAM coin is Negotiations:
a) The TWU has the poorest language negotiations ability in the entire damned industry.
B) The IAM, over three sets of SECT 1113 Concessions Negotiations, retained better and more enforceable language than the TWU has to this day.
2) The other side of the coin is the ability to actually get representation when needed:
a) In my station, the AWA guys needed someone that could use a little leverage, they had no individual locally that was willing to actually stand up.
B) One of our guys, usually very successful in mediating conflict, asked the TWU ATD if he could help out: the TWU-ATD said absolutely not. From my experience with the IAM, that is something they would never do.
I'm no fan of anything AFL-CIO, much less the dictatorships of the IAM or TWU, but facts are facts, the IAM is far preferable to the TWU in representation and negotiations.
Just two cents worth from someone that would like to see both of them junked.
