Check out my reserve flight attendant blog...

You don't think that I understand because I am not reserve? You are misdirecting your hostility.

I'm not being hostile,I'm not even agravated. I'm just being real. I'm not saying you don't care, but you can't really feel the pain until you live it. Thats all I'm saying. ;)

Well, it's not the end-all to be a block holder either, although it is better. Topping out at fourteen years and then nothing more but vacation....is not great.
That in itself is what makes me think twice about a career here. Pushing a beverage cart around for the rest of my life with THESE conditions and pay. Uhhh imagine the pay and benefits 10 to 15 years from now. Hope ya got a sugar daddy. ;)

Well in one point is true. But if you look at it you can be tarring a roof in the blazing sun for the rest of your life. or driving a garbage truck for the rest of your life, or working at walmart for the rest of your life, or cutting grass for the rest of your life, or work at an office for the rest of your life, ETC. You get my drift. maybe we are not the best paid, but hey there are alot worst jobs out there. Everybodys life situation and education is different. All I can say for where I live, the wages paid here, and cost of living and lifestyle, when its come to the jobs I mentioned, s :censored: t push a bar cart around isn't that bad

As Dave Phipps, former Capt. rep from BOS, used to ask, Is there not major value to having reserves, even if not used. A properly designed system will have a small percent of reserves sitting around doing nothing, unless something unusual happens. Then, they become priceless.

They should be compensated so and well, a last resort to complete a contract with a customer. It the company cares not for the customer, than the employees will suffer also.

The company and AFA treat rsv's like crap. Union abandons rsv's and company abuses them. Talk about being the blacksheep of the airline. There is no comparison to what a BH has lost to what has happened to a RSV. Only problem is that most BH say" Oh well" to that. It is sad, yet they are the first ones to bring up retirement issues at neg. time. Very self centered and out of touch. Others say" you'll be a BH soon and won't care either". That is crap also. Why would I want anyone behind me to suffer as much as much as AFA has let rsv's. It is down right embarrassing and Mike Flores should be let go for it. Let his wife bid rsv for 4 years and see if he doesn't get it changed.

Exactly! Yeah, back then! No one is "becoming a blockholder" now!

The game has changed. The seniority list is as stagnant as a pile of dog poo on a frozen pond. There's virtually no movement. No one is leaving, no one is coming in. Just the same old miserable bunch working, and a furlough list longer than the active one. A small handful of deaths and retirements. Jokey recalls of 50 people. Zero growth in fact, shrinkage, at the actual airline, only at "Express" carriers. A merger partner that has never been merged and the company seems in no hurry to. A ridiculous, unheard of contract and staffing model that puts 17-40% of crew bases on reserve compared to 5-7% at all other carriers. A workforce that went from almost 11,000 to 4,400.

Nothing moves. Unless you are one of the cusp, "hold a block for the summer in Philly" crowd.

An airline with 8 year new hires and 23 year reserves is PATHETIC and its unions even more so. Both are an absolute disgace, and you know what else is? The LACK of anger and action! Kudos to FlightChic and the others who post on her blog and here.

Just an update on the others-

UA- hiring 2000 this year alone
CO- hiring
NW- hiring

"US Airways West"- hiring

US Airways- larger furlough list than active employees. Hasn't hired in nearly a decade. Most regionalized airline with most liberal scope clause.

 A freaking joke.

EMBFA - That has got to be the BEST post I have ever read here. Everything you said is dead on and so true. Do you mind if I add your post to my blog?

sky high states: Why is ANYONE still here? Anyone care to quit, go on interviews, go through six to eight weeks of training again? (unpaid) Go bottom Reserve and be based in JFK, EWR, or DTW?

ANYONE?

And, being at the bottom, be the FIRST TO GET FURLOUGHED once something happens to the industry again?

good luck!

you hear the same old song and dance as to why some are STILL here and why SOME won't leave. That STILL doesn't answer the fact that other airlines, most that are larger than US can have a 5 to 7% reserve pool yet we are as high in reserve as we are. NOTHING MOVES. 10 years at east is NOT NEW and I'm OVER the whole reserve comming last BS. EMBFA.....I'm as mad as I have EVER been in this job. I thing it's a slow burn but more reserves are "comming around". Our airline is pathetic and our union is weak. I say thank god for Omar as our reserve rep but she is only ONE person. They are violating our contract left and right. I will now REFUSE to fly if I DEFINATELY know my contract is being broken. Maybe not the wisest choice but I am NOT going to fly something I know I don't have to. It's horrible anymore. I will say this, many of us because of the fear of the unknown. Before you know it, BAM 20 years at Usairways.....the airline that EVERYONE wanted to work for. Ever hear THAT before. THE airline to work for. Good lord if I only knew then what I know now.

A major airline with a 5-7% reserve pool? What airline is that? UA and AA are in the 20% range (I know UA has 30% or so at some bases).

sky high states: Ok, lets STOP scheduling this airline on a "daily basis". Everyone is required to fly their lines. NO MORE BIDSHEET, LET'S END THAT FLEXIBILITY, NOW. Less trips to cover with reserves, less F/A's on the property. Lets send out those Furlough notices NOW!!!

good point, Travelpro.
