APA Proposes Pay Restoration

I think I'll join you. AAFSC knows everything about everything, so why be here. He has so much knowledge about everybody's job - he just comes off as an ignorant wind bag who hijacks threads.

Mikey was quoting donttouch's post from last night. It has threatened to leave several times but it can't help itself.

As opposed to you who doesn't even work here, but pretends to know everything.

There is a solution to this. Just cut the mechs. and F/a's pay and give a hefty raise to the pilots. You have to have pilots to fly the planes,
but the maintence part can be farmed out without any problem.

That's spelled maintenance. We could also have retired pilots from the Peoples Air Force come over from China.

What about auto pilot and fly by wire someday Pilots will be obsolete, planes will fly themselves electronically and there will only be a few pilots at a station somewhere that will take over via satalite link and a flight simulator if the plane gets into trouble, the Airforce already flys scout planes by satalite link, the pilot can be thousands of miles away at a base somewhere in a simulator doing the actual flying.

I think it's coming sooner than you might think, if it does happen they will still need Mechanics to build and repair the planes but no more pilots, and if the Carrier does not serve food and beverages they would only need one flight attendant to assist passengers to their seats, all the emergency instructions would be give via the video screens and a DVD
So I say the Mechanics deserve the pay more, Pilots barely fly the planes anymore anyway it's mostly auto pilot.

That troll keeps posting the same nonsense about pilots being indispensable. He's probably 12 years old, and up past his bedtime.

If a legacy carrier's pilots are indispensable, then how come IASCO does such great business providing pilots to airlines? Nothing, other than a collective bargaining agreement, says that a pilot or flight attendant has to be directly employed by that airline.

You are right. Pilots could be rendered obsolete by computers, and if they could teach those doors to throw themselves open in the event of an emergency, so could flight attendants.

As for mechanics? All the A&P mechanics in the world will be be forced to seek employment in El Salvador before long. :p

Good point.

What did AA get from People Express?
Mechanics, people who could fix their planes who were willing to stay in the NY area. They made their mistakes destroying PEs planes. By the time they got to AA they were experienced.

And what did AA get from Pan Am?

Same thing, experienced mechanics who were willing to stay in NY.

What did AA get from Tower?

Same as above, mechanics. If every mechanic from EAL,PE, PA, Tower and TWA were removed from the headcount you would have around 30 mechanics between JFK, LGA and EWR.

I was thinking more in terms of routes and planes. PE was absorbed by CO and DL acquired PA's JFK hub and NE shuttle; one would think that the AMTs at those two hubs would have stayed with CO and DL; were they laid off?
