And why wouldn't he follow terms and guidelines agreed to by both parties? Why should he strike out on his own and come up with his own rules. The fact he didn't think your position was correct made his decision invalid?
Despite the policy language Nicolau clearly felt bound by the five tenets of ALPA Merger Policy -- he even included them in his report. Over the Award what we have is a simple disagreement: on the one side is the most experienced arbitrator in the country and on the other is a bunch of pilots with a huge sense of entitlement. Whose opinion is really worth more?

You'll only get a few, so use them wisely. There certainly won't be enough to clean up the amount of dung you spew.

They stop coming about the same time as your paycheck (if that helps with your long term planning.)

I hope they come in yellow.

I'm glad your thankful. About time someone saw it for what it really is. Yea I know, sarcasm. In all seriousness though, this merger could have been great. Management dropped the ball big time and continues to drop it at every issue. Welcome to our world as we descend into the abyss once again.

Some of us dont want to live in that world, and think that we would all be much better off with the short term pain that the demise of this black hole would bring. A company that continually makes Captains into Co-pilots is not a long term viable entity. Once this destruction is complete we would all likely be better off starting over with those companies that survived and thrived. I do not wish to continue long term in the swirling black hole of destruction that US Air has become. I do not wish to start over either but it may be the best thing even though it does not seem like it now. Good Luck to everyone!

If higher yield guaranteed survival we'd all be sitting pretty. Unfortunately US Airways is also a perennial leader in unit costs - which most years have outpaced unit revenue by a considerable margin. US Airways rode industry-leading yields right into bankruptcy. Twice. Turns out chasing all those high-yield routes in the BOS-DCA corridor is ruinously expensive.
I think you may not understand what yield is. If unit costs "outpaced unit revenue", um, that is a negative yield. Are you talking about "yield" in the absolute sense, as in, bigger number no matter whether negative or not?

...who was permanently removed from ALPA's list of acceptable arbitrators within 72 hours of the "award...."
I just asked my former C62 rep and he said that's not true. If you have any desire for credibiliiy you'll have to prove it.
...and who had been previously fired from the NHL and MLB panel of arbitrators.
If true it's irrelevent. I don't recall you complaining about him before he issued his decision. Character assisination ex post facto is hypocrisy.

.....on the one side is the most experienced arbitrator in the country and on the other is a bunch of pilots with a huge sense of entitlement. Whose opinion is really worth more?
and here I always thought the westies were "in" with the arbitrator.

EastUS: "I can't personally imagine myself EVER having the unmitigated gall to look into another's pilot's face, with far more years of flying..and tell him that I "should be the captain"....of course; I don't have your perverse sense of having any "higher ground"=lottery ticket, upon which to "justify" any such obvious BS...and I personally couldn't even then. Your actual mileage seems to vary therein.....within all that "higher ground"

"...and on the other is a bunch of pilots with a huge sense of entitlement." You're certainly right about that. Leonidas: "I want the captain seat...and most of all, I want every single east pilot to pay for it". Prechilill: "Ho Ho Ho! St Nic is coming to town!"..and similarly "noble" BS just oozes from a year's worth of collective west postings...which, pretty much all amount to "Gimme Mine!!..AND Yours!...I'm "special"..St Nic told me so!"..."NO Fences!!!"..."No further discussion!!'.."Final and Binding!".."It's OVER!!".."We don't have to talk!"...."Take NO East prisoners!..."Just GIMME, GIMME, GIMME!" At least the passage of time and some added reality's reduced the "We saved you" BS...but "You OWE us!" seems still fashionable. Imho: The west group serves as the perfect embodiment of "a bunch of pilots with a huge sense of entitlement." None of that group's even conversant with the huge sacrifices made over the years by the east group, just to keep this clusterf--k even afloat at any level....no matter I guess.

"Whose opinion is really worth more?" I suppose that must be determined by each and every one of us as individuals, and acted on accordingly. The eviction of Alpa "might" indicate that the east opinion's at least worth noting. Whatever else is true; it's clear that none of our opinions, as seen on these boards anyway, are changing.

"..what we have is a simple disagreement". Or, perhaps; "What we have here..is failure to communicate".

Best of luck to us all in the times to come.

Complete and utter BS.

I'd like to see where you came up with that one.
Not really. Seems ole George doesn't have any open arbitration cases. In fact he hasn't had one new case in quite a while. Check out the NMB web site for further information if you're so inclined.

East- Do you reallly believe the stuff you spew here?

Do you really believe that you're so "special" that you're personally "worth" more than any other person/pilot who's worked and flown for many more years than you have?

Cue up Stever Martin's "The Jerk", as his adoptive dad was priming him for life: "Son..before you go out in the world, there's a few things you need to know"..(Points toward pile on ground)..."See this?..that's sh-t"..(Response) = "Sh-t"..(Father opens can of shoe shine)...See this?..This is shinola"....(Response) = "Sh-t..Shinola"...

Have a fine journey through life...;)

He's 83 years old and lives in Banteer, Ireland.

Just how busy do you expect him to be?

And our med/arb was supposed to be his last decision.

But why do you check it out if you're so inclined.

Tough Guy? No, just practical.

Begin negotiations soon. Did you expect something else?
Practical or just plain ignorant? I see only two options:

1. East comes up to parity.

Good luck with oil at $130/barrel and USAPA with no leverage.

2. West coming down to LOA93.

Parker cutting pay from only one side of the pilot group? Not likely.

And Parker is on record as saying that there will be no parity with a joint contract. With the economic window we're in, I think we'll see something in 4 years.
