ALPA Thread 12/14-12/20 ALL ALPA here

Agreed- looking through this, it appears as just a way to discourage people from voting ALPA. Take it as you may though.....

Alpo has a long standing tradition of demanding cash for pathetic "deeds" on their part (all those great hotels/catered meals/etc so necessary for "commit-mes" and "conferences"..not to mention maxed out flight pay loss and all the other free rides adds up). I've never seen much, even in the way of Alpoid insanity/arrogance/etc to top an additional request for money immediately in the wake of dropping the Nic steamer though. Heck...they could free up many millions for usefull work just by ditching Alpo Notional ;)

You're last seems correct me = This is but one more reason for the east to toss Alpo off the nearest bridge.

PS: It occurs to me that I'm perhaps being too hard on Alpo. All they've actually given away for the east in recent years is our pensions, work rules, pay rates, great medical benefits..and anything else of value like decades of seniority...But, on the plus side: they've given us Nic's issues to work on, a toxic relationship between supposedly "merged" Alpo members out west, and just really far too many benefits to properly offer full credit to them for here. There's been zero progress in over two years in achieving anything that benefits the pilot group, but they do "sound sincere"......What more could any east pilot ask for? I say we vote 'em all compensation packages equal to Prater's, and send yet more money to Alpo. After all?...many east pilots yet have roofs over their heads and eat regularly...Alpo's clearly not yet finished with their great work ;)

It is true that ALPA is a completely useless organization, but I believe it is a necessary evil right now. The cash expenditures for hotels, dinner, drinks and such are going to people that are on your seniority list. You think a change in union name is going to change this precedent- I think not.

Said "people" are hopefully going to be out of a "job" very shortly...and can start earning their keep through..gasp!/choke!...actually working. USAPA will in no wise be set up for the evident purpose of featherbedding the reps, nor is it intended to be anything along the lines of Alpo's "structure". No five star hotels..no inflated "flight pay loss" for permanent drones that do nothing/etc...and no amateur Alpo idiots at the negotiating tables. You're envisioning just another "Alpo" with a change on the ownership sign...that isn't the case.

As for "necessary evil"? = All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing ;)

Most of the pilots I have worked with at Usairways are very cheap when it comes to tipping after dinner and drinks, we will save thousands of dollars on this alone in dues money.

Another FYI: Former Furloughed US pilots

USAPA has just been made aware of yet another representational lapse by ALPA - the failure to utilize all resources to notify former furloughees that an amended tax return must be filed (prior to the expiration of the statute of limitations) to protect their tax refund for the overstated income in 2003. This comes as a result of US Airways overstating 2003 incomes due to the application of IRS code Section 83.

It seems that ALPA has for some time been aware of the negative impact of this misapplication of IRS code Section 83, and in fact has been implored to use their resources to contact and advise the affected pilots, yet has failed to do so. In at least one case a pilot received a $5,500 refund as a result of amending his return.

During research with IRS council Michael Hughes, some pilots affected discovered that even though the company correctly stated their income by applying section 83 of the tax code, the code failed to take into consideration a huge drop in value of a stock issuance and the canceling of a stock issuance. This was the case for the 771 pilots furloughed in 2003 who remain negatively impacted by limitations of section 83 and the overstated income.

An amended return needs to be filed ASAP. Follows is an example as to what can be stated in part II of the 1040x:

Line 1. US Airways has refused to issue a corrected W-2 for the 802 shares of stock that were canceled Sept 25, 2005 and the 794 shares priced at $1.13 in January 2005. I was required to pay 2003 taxes on all 3202 shares at $7.34/share. I reduced my W-2 income by $10,818 computed as follows: The difference between the actual price and price used to determine my taxes for the 794 shares issued in January 05, $4931 and the value of the 802 shares canceled September 05, $5887. Total overstated income $10,818. Please see supporting documentation.

If you are a former furloughed pilot, we urge you to contact your tax adviser as soon as possible with this information.

cactusboy an f/o at usairways makes more than you now, did you tell them that in your "fregent" jump seats from Springfield, MO.?

Not sure what table you're lookin' at Skippy but according to the following link, but an AWA FO makes $9 more an hour at the high end of the scale (narrow body, of course). An AWA Captain makes $17 more an hour at the high end of the scale (narrow body, of course).

Regarding SGF, I have to get to another major hub to get to PHX. DEN is my choice "de-jour", DFW and ORD in second and third. And YES, I frequently get to chat with my AAA brothers and sisters while sip on a delicious latte.

I am sorry for the situation that you have found yourselves in regarding the seniority award. Fighting it will only cause more wailing, gnashing of teeth, and the loss of income that we both deserve. Your fight should be with Doug and LCC.

I'll bet you could pushed over with a feather when you really see how many AWA "crave" to fly the big iron out of PHL. Direct your efforts, time and energy to where they belong.

Your not high end on the scale.

Being paid well was not a concern for your pilots the last 20 years.

"So is there anything that could bring this stock down? Well, one thing that could be viewed as both a blessing and a curse is the fact that the America West pilot contract is up for renewal on June 30th. J.R. Baker, chairman of the America West branch of the ALPA, explains, "The America West pilots have made our share of sacrifices too, but our pilots never had an apple to bite. For a long time, the last 20 years, we've been at the bottom of the industry." On one hand, potential contract negotiations may cause strife between pilots and executives. On the other hand, if the America West pilots and the US Airways pilots ink one comprehensive contract (right now they have separate contracts), they may save the company millions of dollars every year."

article where quote originated

The RJ scope clause America West pilots inked has no restrictions on regional jet use or max seats.

You did not bite into an apple, you bit into the behind of a sleeping bear.

"Direct your efforts, time and energy to where they belong." Hmm..surprisingly enough...the general feeling is that we are doing exactly that.

Despite your sage counsel...another typical variant of the standard AWA fantasy that "It's Over!!"..and "Resistance is Futile"...and the ever famous west lying BS of: "We really don't want to actually steal your seats out east"/etc/ad nauseum (given any chance..you guys would swarm here like locusts for upgrades/etc).....we'll pick our fights where it suits US, not you....thank you very much

I gotta better one for ya. How bout the "Lesser of two evils", and for the west usapa is definately not it!

You bet! All that money those poor waitresses should receive will now be used to pay for defense attorneys for all the law suits usapa will incur.

Oh yeah, I'm just chomping at the bit to leave my family and 18 days off a month to commute cross country to sit in a crash pad in beautiful PHL. Oh and I can't wait till I can stop doing these Las Vegas redeyes because when I get to be on those whopping 9 widebody A330's I'll be doing MORE redeyes.

Your right, I believe you, no sense in getting it in writing. By the way did you sell me a used car 10 years ago.

Yes..sigh..it's been "explained" many times by west people how they'd "never" come east...which is naturally the main point of the west "No Fences!!" battle cry one must suppose? One wonders what all the fuss out west is about Nic in it's entirety...given that you're all glued to the desert by choice...don;t want any east seats/etc-the usual BS.....'tis indeed a puzzlement  I'll stick with the locusts-in-waiting model as logically being far more realistic. The west's standard propoganda is easilly broken down to few basic notions that continually reappear in looped sound bites:

1) You'll never, EVER, no way come east and steal seats.
2) Nic's a "done deal/it's over/etc"...said 7 months and counting into the mess.
3) We'll never get more than 200 cards for a decert...Oops!..I meant that Alpo will never get voted out...umm..err..or any new union will fail, drowned in litigation and money woes/etc. The west's demonstrated expertise in what's possible within unions and/or the real world's actually been clearly shown during the last 7 months and counting...and would fit easilly into the nearest thimble with room to spare. Does it even bother any of you that you've been wrong at virtually every turn thus far?
4) If we just sit back, give you all our "young" on a Nic-kel plated platter, perhaps have some peyote and drink a couple of gallons of koolaide to wash away many, many years of real world observations....we too will see the "real" potential for an instantly achieved contract that'll set new records for industry pay and benefits under Alpo's magnificent "leadership". Umm...but we're all "pretty new" at this contract business out east..so it might take a whole lotta' peyote and koolaide for us to see things in a similar light ;)
5) If we just follow the wisdom of the west...all will magically be well...trust you, and all your many, many years of industry and union experience, that our simple, and misguided ignorant minds should feel blessed just to have around as guiding lights.

Anything orginal to add that i've missed?

About 6 weeks ago a bunch of you westies had the exact same shrill taunts about USAPA not having the cards to submit.

The back and forth bickering got really tiresome then, so I simply responded with:

"I'm bidin' my time..."

Well, USAPA filed and it shut you people up for about a day and a half.

Now we're into more of your incessant claptrap.

Again, "I'm bidin' my time..."
