What's new

AFA now compliance police

He was a former VP for council 66, then was elected president but didn't finish his term. He was forced to resign under the pressure of a recall campaign when members found out he was making all sorts of added income via inappropriate expense reports as well as double dipping. A huge recall campaign was started and he resigned before he could be recalled. Formal charges were filed against him with international over the fiscal issues and he was found guilty on some of the charges and forced to pay back money. Let's just say this fellow "speaks with a forked tongue."

The kicker? He's planning on running for president again and must think that the members of council 66 have short memories, but we don't. We have not forgotten and if he does in fact run he better put on a flak jacket, because the anti-Lehman campaign that will come out will make the previous recall effort look like a walk in the park.

So, as you can see, union dysfunctionalism is alive and well in the west!
Thanks for the info. He sounds like quite a chap. With a record like that, it sounds like he would find in perfectly in Inflight Management.

we just got an e-mail from our focus group and mgmt is asking us to give them our feedback on what things that are in the Policies and procedures manual should we have access to on the aircraft  Service procedures, um stuff, things like that are on a list so they can publish a small handbook or something  They said something like a "brochure" , i take that as something simple, small and easy to carry if you want. Focus group sounds like it's making a difference.

You mean like the "Service at a Glance" sheet that is available in the crewrooms?

There are already those flip books for the international service for each AC.

Sorry, I don't understand exactly what is in the P & P that we need to carry around that we don't already have access to in a light weight form. I must be missing something.

I have to agree with you. I was thinking the same thing. It also sounds like micro-managing.

I'd rather see them do something about the catering in Boston. Or rather the lack of catering.
What's the deal up there anyway? Trying to get ice is like pulling teeth!

I agree with the program but to the same degree I don't. I'm a bit torn on the subject. On one hand I don't want management doing this and possibly writing us up for not doing the service properly but don't feel the need for another f/a to be in the mix of your service "watching" you crack a coke or sell a meal. As for Omar doing this program, I only hope that she is able to maintain her duties while flying around. I think she may be able to keep the same level of service to her members as she does now though. Is she not out there currently working trips? What would be the difference? Now, that being said I do think the line is blurred as an elected union official. Regardless if you view it as "coaching" it is STILL instilling a COMPANY agenda. That isn't even debatable. BUT, the service that is agreed upon with management and the focus groups and AFA in CLT should be followed. I'm sorry but there are MANY and I do mean MANY that take it upon themselves to alter the service and forgo the arrival beverage cross country or NEVER deliver a pre departure beverage in first class. For many it is part of their "working for less pay" campaign. You work at McDonald's you sell big macs and wear a hat. It's not YOUR choice whether or not to wear it and follow their procedures. I don't understand that way of thinking here at Usairways. It makes you NO BETTER than the company when you decide to change things. KISS...(keep it simple stupid) and just go with the flow. When you have the f/a that doesn't want to do the arrival bev, do it alone. When you have an A that doesn't want to do the pre-departure bev, go to the back. Your obviously NOT needed.

just want to remind you that my understanding on this from our meeting was 'NOBODY gets in trouble. In the west, the FA's look at this as a way to prepare for an actual management check, but instead the FA is doing one and answering any questions. I think it sounds like a good thing and i've had one of the west on my flight last year and it was no big deal, we loved the help serving! I'm a shy person  and could never do it myself, but i won't mind those that do.

wow , i did not know that about him. he is a friend of mine. i am gonna have to talk to him aobut that. he is very big into heritage stuff . he and wally bold(pit customer service manager and a super guy) put together all of the heritage display cases at headquarters and the phx flight center and is in the process of putting one up at the clt training center.he os a huge airline geek like me that's why we know eachother. but that stuff you just wrote about is not cool . not cool at all.

The fact that he had some errors in judgement doesn't make him a horrible person, just doesn't make him leadership material. In fact, he is a very likable person and he has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to aviation history. He does a great job in the training department and seems to have found a niche. He needs to stay there and not try to walk back down the leadership path with council 66. He made some mistakes, hopefully he learned from them. He moved on and needs to not come back. Trust me there are plenty of people that will work hard to keep him from coming back.
