Aa To Spin Off Overhaul Maintenance

Decision has a knack for predicting all sorts of doom and gloom; not too many of his prognostications turn out to be accurate, however.

In the thread below, Decision said that the A-300s were going to be grounded and that MCI maintenance ops would be closed:

Didn't happen. A-300s still flying and MCI's future extended.

Glad he's not a weatherman. Forecasts leave a lot to be desired.

Congrats to the good people of MCI.

Just to reply about the A300. Eventually it will stop flying at AA. Right now, there is no replacement for it. The 767 does not hold the cargo that the A300 holds. However, this aircraft still serves AA well, especially to the caribbean and Miami.

I agree 100% - in fact my original responses to Decision's dumb prediction read like your post. B)

Decision's prediction was more immediate than your well-written post.

Of course A300s will eventually stop flying at AA; eventually, so will the 777s. But RV4 made it sound in the linked thread like they were being grounded right now.

More realistically, when the A300 stops flying for AA, it will simply because of it's time in service with the company. Working at JFK, I do not see anyother reason for AA to ground them. They depart and arrive pretty well loaded with both pax and cargo. Some of us in maintenance prefer a boeing for various reasons. And it is different, European design varies from American design. Aside from the rudder issue which caused a crash, the A300 is a good airplane. Yes it has had it's problems, but it serves well. It also has its share of unique problems, namely with the fuel system. But what aircraft doesnt?

Congrats to the good people of MCI.

Congrats? For what? We have seen our ranks shrink from some 4500 to 1320 approx. We have not seen a lease signing yet, and if and when it does get signed they will guarantee 700 of the 1320 jobs. Our "5 year fence" has been breached numerous times, we operate under 2 different contracts yet pay the same dues, we witnessed our contract open for concessions yet were not allowed the same contract in full, Congrats?

How about a good old congrats for allowing all the smoke to be piped up the cazoo, congrats?
Congrats for hanging around long enough to get furloughed at a lesser severance package, congrats?

How about congrats for not tearing this worthless workplace down, now that deserves a congrats!

You have got to be kidding me!

Do you have an OSM classification at MCI?

seed said:
No Buck we do not, they can not mandate one until all personnel are again employed/returned from furlough status.
[post="246444"][/post]

Yet you state that they can violate the contract or the "5 - Year Fence"?

Well Buck, we were told our 5 yr fence would keep naatives out, they lied. Now, I am not the most learned on the "fence", but it has been breached under the 5 yr period.

Buck, you telling me we do not operate under two different contracts? Wish to trade yours for mine? Define "the contract", yours or ours?

seed,

Get to know the following phrases:

"They Can Do That Brother" ;and, "We'll Get'em Next Time!"

Both brought to you by the TWU.

Get a life and sign a card.

Seed ..............I am sincerely sorry with what has happened to you and your former TWA coworkers and I wish things would have been different, but they are not. I am not passing judgement on you or your coworkers.but you were told about the collusion between the twu and aa. Maybe after everything is said and done you will understand why we don't want the twu representing us as mechanic and related anymore.

Two contracts?

Let me see, the B-scale, the C-scale, the junior mechanic program that has many different levels, the SRP and the OSM, now you tell me.

If you had been treated like the native AAer's you would have been placed completely at the bottom of the seniority list and you would have started, if lucky at OSM wages.
I know that you at TWA have had a rough road, however when we compare our lives at AA you are not the only losers out there.

As others here have informed you, as far as representation goes you went downhill.

Seed,
We all have seen what has happened to the native TWAers. But you do not have the lock on getting screwed. Do you know how many native TWAers bumped nAAtive AAers to the streets at JFK/LGA? Having officially been with AA for 4 years come April 10, I would say the NY TWAers did pretty damn good getting max vacation and vacation picks. How about max sick time? How about the first year of vesting waived? The TWAErs did much better than employees from other failed carriers, i.e. PANAM and EASTERN.

Is not 700 people left better than 1320 at MCIE?

What goes around comes around. At JFK we have nAAtives coming in from other downsized stations who have seniority on the TWA guys and nAAtives too. Seniority is what it's all about.

So, enough of the "poor us TWA folks." We at AA have been getting screwed by both the TWU and the company for decades. What makes you so special?
