AA begins FA recalls

It will be interesting to see how far down the list they have to go to get all 200.
You misunderstood the numbers. The 200 is the number of recall notices which are being sent, not the number that the airline expects to return to work.

Today is Monday, May 7, 2007. This is Tommie Hutto-Blake, APFA president, with a Hotline update.

APFA is pleased to announce that recall notices will be mailed today to the 200 most senior Flight Attendants on our furlough recall list effective July 24, 2007. Accept or Reject Re-employment letters have been sent today and must be postmarked using the FED Ex envelope included with your recall notice no later than May 17, 2007.

This recall will reach employee number 626859 and include original AA Flight Attendants and original TWA FAs who were furloughed in July ‘03. These Flight Attendants will be offered a choice of three bases in seniority order including BOS, DCA and LGA. Four 3-week training classes will be held beginning Monday, June 4, 2007, and each Monday in June thereafter. Information will be available on APFA’s Web site in the furlough section beginning today. It will be updated throughout this process to ensure our recalled Flight Attendants have the information they need to return to work.

This recall is the fourth since 2003 and we welcome these 200 APFA members back to the line. APFA is hopeful that this recall will provide some relief for our active members in the field, albeit small. We will continue to work toward more recalls for our remaining 2,122 members still waiting to return to work.

We know you will have many questions re: this furlough. AA will have a process in place for all furloughed members to forward their questions and concerns. This information will be published on our Web site as soon as possible.

Please stay on the line for the rest of the APFA Hotline.

They won't go down the list. It is AA's practice to pad the recall number assuming that some percentage will not reply or refuse reinstatement. Only those who accept reinstatement will be recalled. If it is fewer than they actually need, there will be another recall.

For instance when I was recalled in Nov. 2004, recall letters went out to something like 610 or 620 furloughees. Only 495 accepted recall. That is all that returned. The company did not issue additional recalls; so, evidently 495 was equal to or greater than the actual number they needed.

If only 120 of the 200 accept recall, that is all that will be recalled.

Anybody else suspect that AA will be hiring off the street within weeks of the expiration of the last of the five year recall rights?

TWAnr is correct if past AA policy holds. My spouse and all her friends are going back. I think the number of returnees amongst the TWA group is vastly underrated. I'm betting close to 90 out of 103 return or maybe more. Long range commuting might dissuade more.

With open bases being BOS,DCA, and LGA, the eact coast faction may jump on the situation.

Two hundred letters go out today (5/7). They won't keep going until they get 200 people.

Personally, I think they're just putting out feelers for how many will return. I don't think more than 75 will actually come back, and that will barely cover attrition for April and May, much less the rest of the year.

It moves me to about 250 on the recall list. Although I won't be receiving a letter this time around, it sure raises my hopes for the near future.

Of the 200, 19% have California mailing addresses, 18% Texas (probably most from the AA group), 8% Missouri (Kansas City and STL people) and 15% the Tri-state area (NY, CT and NJ). So it's safe to say most returnees will be facing a commute.

This is great news for all of us! Sappy me, I actually got tears in my eyes when I read the title of this thread. I am so happy that you all are starting to return. We NEED you on the line, especially LGA! If any need crashpads, I have a friend who has just expanded his right by LGA! PM me.
This is going to be fun. Welcome bAAck!

What a welcoming post! Just viewing the names of some on the recall list is validation that we will be well represented. I know you all will be pleased with some "help" at the bottom. Those returning really want to be there and I hope you all have lots of fun! Baby steps, but what a nice way to start the week. Thank you again for your warm post. I'll pass it on.

We will be keeping our fingers crossed for you. Hopefully eveyone will be getting letters before too long.

I wonder how many people have already tried on their old uniform today...LOL. Just remember guys and gals things have changed a little in the last few years... chateaubriand, (with Club 21 sauce) is no longer hand carved at the passengers seat...
The best of luck to you all...recalls are a win win for everyone.

As a passenger, I hope that there will be as many TWA people as possible recalled. I doubt that, but hopefully it will happen.

I would rather have a older TWA FA than a younger AA FA anyday of the week and twice on Sundays!!!!

Please Fang, no devisive posts...a few former TW flight attendants will return and do those of us waiting recall proud. Hopefully the devision of the last 6 years will start to heal a bit. Ultimately we are all AA.
