AA and Labor Negotiations-2020

I don't normally comment in this thread... however...

Make no mistake, when you're bleeding $50M per day, playing politics is probably the least of anyone's concerns. I'm not at all surprised by the comment about 757 and 767's being parked.

AA, DL and UA are all going to see serious shrinkage vs. 2019. International traffic isn't expected to return to the same levels, and that will mean parking airplanes regardless of the financial aid.

Without seeing final language and going only off what I've heard secondhand, airlines receiving grants won't be allowed to lay-off employees. The grants don't require the airlines to hire, however, and natural attrition is around 5-8% depending on the workgroup. I'll guess AA sees an average of 400-600 pilot retirements a year due to mandatory age limits (likely higher right now given the number of people hired in the 1985-1989 mega-growth boom), and that's not taking into consideration the early retirement package offered which will take out another 500 or so who were 62 or older. Mechanics are harder to predict because you don't get forced out by age.

Good Comments E, I think many of us have planned on leaving in the next 3-5 years with curve getting bigger as time progresses. But, with the massive losses to retirement accounts, that rate will slow and begin to only pick back up when the market makes a recovery.

I don't know if it says anything about pay protection though and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if AA did indeed ask for paycuts somewhere down the road, especially if things do not begin to improve anytime soon. Just my opinion.

AANOTOK; Just how are the members of this Association going to feel when the leaders come to the floor and tell the membership the bonus money is on hold and the pay raise you just signed in with this new contract is all on hold? Now your saying they will ask for pay cuts as well? How many of you think the association will balk about that or any of it? If all of that happens do you think GP and Garcia, & Sito will put an automatic snap back to the rate of pay we should be at and get the Bonus $$$? But you can rest assure AA will take the $$$ for the payroll switch over.

Keeping dues members is all the Association will be worried about.

I understand most of us are worried about the effect the virus has on our industry. Our jobs and future are all at risk. It just seems we the airline ground workers always seem to catch the short end of the stick. PHL 76ers reversed coarse after a backlash over the little guys taking pay cuts. I hope that Association protects its workers contract as we go forward.

Maybe the LUS employees will see that electronic voting and that everyone has a chance to vote is better than the way they are used to doing it and the future will be that way. Use your PIN vote have a say in your future, don't let everyone else dictate your future wage earnings.

Also for the older men/women around the system I hope that AA lets those who want to go package out or use the stand in stead to keep the younger workers in place. To get laid off then recalled then cut again will only hurt AA and the families of future AA employees.

It may very well be the least of most concerns. Does not mean politics are and will be played advantageously in their favor. Once they (airline co's) heard the slightest resistance on getting the aid, they picked up their comments and articles in the media big time with what would and could happen if they did not receive the aid. Not saying they were lying or giving false intentions, but they were adding pressure (policting) for a favorable vote on the aid package to come out quickly.
I am not so certain about the comment that the airlines can not layoff, rif, or furlough. I am sure we will still see some taking place. Also not sure if that is a rule of receiving any aid as of yet, at least I haven't. More details will come out as we go.

A large number of us..myself included, voted already. Nice turn out using electronic version.

Ive had some mods say furloughs are coming. Just matter of when all due to virus

I think furloughs will be held to a minimum as long as the government money is done right.
All employees need to hold AA accountable on this to make sure it does

Just curious how the association would protect our contracts? After September that is

thats a good question, i cant speak for the iam but on the twu .....well look at hisory and the 15 years of concessions with no snap back.

Furloughs will run deep, shockingly deep! And its ironic how this virus works, it does a pretty good job of killing off the old and sickly. And as luck would have it, only the old and sickly will have a job after the furloughs. This airline stimulus will do nothing in preventing mass furloughs here at American. As far as the signing bonus, I would like to see the A$$ force the company to pay it out by the next day after signing regardless 45 or 60 time period.

I know don’t trust AA management but in the stimulus bill the airlines were clear they needed the money to prevent massive layoffs and if AA chooses that way anyway the bad PR that they would get for that would be huge.
Ok call me an optimist but I just don’t see a big lay-off for that reason
I hope I’m not wrong

When the time comes and AA needs cash to survive they will call in their markers on the lawsuit against the association.

ALUS78; I could put my opinion of how they should do that but then there would be such backlash of BS here it's not worth it. If you are a union person you should not have to even ask. AA went to court over a unproven slow down and got an injunction against the TWU/IAM mechanics. Protecting our contract language and what they took 4 yrs to negotiate with AA and to have AA send us the contract books, in my opinion they should honor. Having AA put it in writing that it will get paid no matter what is just one way. Those on payroll at the DOR even if there is a staff reduction members will get the money they are owed. Insuring that as economy turns and virus goes away, all delayed payments to AA employees is re-instated. In other words doing the JOB they are being paid to do. And if not then to look for some legal way to insure the Unions membership gets what the company & association agreed too. Both parties signed it, hold AA and the association accountable.

Bullet point list:
1- Vote yes to pass contract.
2- Release court injunction against IAM/TWU.
3- Corral all the groups under unified contract.
4- Declare FORCE MAJEURE.
5- Mass layoffs and paycuts.
6- Huge bonuses to executives.
7- Massive stock buybacks to enrich shareholders.
8- American emerges on the other side of this a much smaller company. Just without you.
