A330-200 Envoy updates?

Interest rates are pretty low already. How much lower do they expect them to get in a few years?

Besides, haven't the financial geniuses in Tempe heard of "refinancing?"
Actually interest rates for businesses like ours are still very high. US Airways doesn't have the best credit history. Our assets are minimal, bankruptcies and a difficult income generating environment are all helping to make any new business loan more expensive.

As for refinancing, TZ learned the hard way that it's not so easy. They bought a bunch of new expensive aircraft and when the business market slumped they couldn't pay the bills. They tried to renegotiate the loans but were unsuccessful. That helped to push them into bankruptcy.

From everything I've been reading it appears that our climb out of this recession will be a slow one. Perhaps US Airways is "positioning" themselves for a prolonged weak business environment. If that is the case then this would appear to be a prudent business move.

Guess you dont know that US received A320s, A321s and A330-200s this year.

So...back to the topic at hand...

what's this recent news mean for the A330 suite installations (-300 and -200 models)? Will we see the entire fleet (all whopping 16 of them combined) completed sooner than initially stated?

I would hope that since the new A332's are being pushed back that they would focus on refurbishing the A333 and installing the new Envoy seats in A332's that have already been delivered. From a financial point of view it has to be much more inexpensive than the acquisition of new aircraft. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I agree with that. But that's not the explanation they gave regarding the delayed aircraft deliveries. If they just came out and said: "We want to hang on to every cash penny we've got until this economy turns around in order to survive," then that's a reasonable explanation. Saying that delaying the deliveries is positioning them to take advantage of a recovering economy and renewed air travel is nonsense. Without the lift, they will be less able to take advantage of expanding markets.

If the company loses that battle, they could theoretically only outfit a few with the crew rest module like this (accessable from main cabin via a stairway into a multi-berth space)

What kind of modification is required for this? And, if the arbitration is for flights over a specific block time, then they could dedicate a few specific aircraft to this purpose rather than putting one in every single -200 that is delivered.

Just saw this in the NY Times online. I hope Tempe misses it, because they may attempt to solve the F/A crew rest problem this way:

F/A Crew Rest Location

You may need to subscribe to read it, but it's free. Cute story.

For anyone interested A/C 282, the 4th A-330-200 was delivered to PIT Wed evening for Pre-Ops. I am very happy to see these aircraft being delivered to a US MTC base and not to a 3rd party vendor's facility.

Happy Thanksgiving

I'm too lazy to go back and research the threads, but was this bird to have the Envoy pods already installed? Can't wait to see some pics!

In theory, that was the case. This should have been the first delivery with the Envoy pods. And when it is ready to do line flying, my understanding is that one of the other 330-200s will go offline to get its pods installed.

Same thing when the next -200 arrives in December.

Thanks for thinking of us.

I don't know what an envoy pod is, but 282 does have a "2 midget" bunk bed sort of set up just behind the cockpit.

Wow is it small. And you better not be taller than 5', by the looks of it.

Would have gotten pic's, but there's too much brass running around.

Looks like 282 flew PHL-SJU today as US1071. Anyone work it with reports about the alleged Envoy pods?

Since the deliveries are to be put on hold I wonder if the company will do the upgrades to the A330-300 sooner. It would be nice to see the current A330 fleets video system upgraded, slim seats in coach installed with the new pods in envoy. I know I'm dreaming.
