What the deal AMP

I get your point about helping politicians that help us, and this was definitely a feather in the cap for Samuelson and the MTA. I don't see where the AFL-CIO had any input in this particular effort, correct me if I'm mistaken. I have heard talk of politicians helping the Aircraft Maintenance profession but have never really seen any concrete results. Our work still goes south, unabated. Politicians and the AFL-CIO stand by and watch with tough words and bills that NEVER get through congress.

You should settle your differences with 737 driver in another way. We all know you two have differences of opinion with union representation. Thanks...
Done deal, already taken care of. Sorry for the disruption to all.

It has already begun. There is a fb group and gofundme pg established. Nearly $8k raised in a week.
That's fantastic. I thought I may have made a huge stretch when I said maybe by the end of month you guys would have the 10K goal, but it is looking very, very doable.

It is my belief that many AMTs won't support an AFL-CIO affiliated union because they believe it has done a bad job under Trumka and Sweeney. I think many believe they stood by as our work went out of the country to the lowest bidder, allowed strikes to be broken without putting up any fight, assisted in the gerrymandering of representational votes. Then on top of that, they believe Trumka forced us into and a bad association to save a soon to be defunct pension without a vote.

Then on top of all of that, they believe the AFL-CIO puts their support behind candidates the a lot of AMTs find objectionable. And that is a political conversation maybe better suited for other areas of this website.

I agree with you almost 100%. Except the part stand by and watch. All they can do is keep pushing and pushing. They may NEVER get anything through but you have to keep trying to.

As for myself, despite all the negatives, I personally am not opposed to any organization with an AFL-CIO affiliation. Especially given the possible choices available.

Good try Swampy, you don't try a Union. I wouldn't want any union that is AFL/ CIO , or affiliated with Seham law firm. If they want to start with the AMP, they have more than enough membership, and experience to control AMP, and control their own destiny. They have seen how long AMFA has taken at SWA, to produce a T/A , with mediation from 2015. The management team is alot tougher than SWA. You keep pushing AMFA on these guys, you will just cause them to split their vote, and they will be stuck with Association. We get it, you Love AMFA!!! I know they don't want the Teamsters, but at least they left the AFL/ CIO.
I have been part of every AMFA drive at American in the last 30 years or more. AMFA would most likely be the far above the Teamsters, why because they showed up to aid and abet the TWU in splitting the vote. The TWU will not go willingly and will have to be removed. That being said, from the time I met him and his Law Firm, has given the organizers at American more Pro Bono advise and time that he could have charged for. I have yet to see what is so hateful in your eyes. All you do is throw derogatory comments at him as if he took your first child. Those of us at American that have chosen to make another attempt at trying to finish one man's dream. This weeks startup is the greatest response ever. Why? because it will be run by the members for the members and if possible leave the politics behind. The time that AMFA has taken at SWA has been far more productive than our opposition at American. Issues like not caring, not voting and plain ignorance of the membership when the politics do come forward. Yes we do have a few things to work on, however, the enthusiasm of those signing up just to hear about getting rid of the Association and being invited to really be a part has been amazing.

Buck, I remember the early AMFA drives when Lee and Delle-Femine's attendance were noting but uplifting and informational. Getting to know Lee and the sacrifices he made to attend our meetings makes it hard for me to understand why some despise his efforts to promote our profession as I've seen nothing that would warrant spreading vitriolic hatred his way. Best wishes in whoever you choose to rid yourselves of the unelected ASSocciation.

Buck you said 30 years of AMFA drives at American, think about that. We were able to kick the Teamsters out, because in 2002 to 2003, we had less than 2000 mechanics. I would hate for you to try again, raise $30,000 or more to fail because the TWU/ IAM does the same thing as last time. If you guys get on the same page with the AMP or your own in house Union, you could probably be successful.

This early meeting has shown that the mechanics are looking for a change. I said 30 years because I have entered my 35th year and know that I was involved while still in the engine shops. It is not just Tulsa, it has to be the Line and the IAM to make it happen. We are actually losing about $1700 a year by waiting. (not my calculation.) The IAM guys have a valid reason to want to keep their Healthcare, cost. It has been noted that there is a 400% difference between us. If the IAM loses their position in the future the members could lose their pension.

What do you feel will finally motivate the line guys? I have been a line guy for over 18 years, out of my 24 yrs. A crew chief for 4 years. I know guys doubt you can do it, but I really believe if you guys are where you are still at in a year, that might be the clincher for maintenance and engineering at American. Good luck, we have guys that were die hards, and since this T/A has come out, they have started to think. So we will just have to see how it goes.

Way too many people on Forums like swamp rat getting involved in other people’s business and why maybe sometimes I make it a point to do the same thing.
That's right WeAAsles...... just keep telling yourself that.

Another reason to stay away from the AFL-CIO. Some issues they financially support with our dues money may not be in your peronal interest. I was disappointed when the supreme Court ruling was made. I don't support this political candidate or his party. Why should money from all members support him? It's all political between unions and politicians. We as members are funding this. There are issues that can be justified by using our dues.

Again, you need to support the Employee Rights Act and put a stop to that B.S..

Better to support Political Candidates who don’t support Unions or the issues that directly affect your wallet I guess huh?]
WeAAsles is a manipulative, fear mongering liar. Right to work is not about threatening UNIONs. Neither is the Employee Rights Act. What those are about is employee rights and keeping UNIONs accountable for their political spending.

Nobody is telling anyone they can't join a UNION. They are only saying let's pass laws so the employee actually has a choice.

Democrats will tell you they are all about choice..... unless of course it hits them in the pocket book, then participation is compulsory. The Democrats, in their never ending hypocrisy, champion "entitlement" programs but hate "free rider" UNION members. Anything to manipulate people in order to control those votes right?

What you should be asking yourself is why UNIONs fear these things. The answer of course is because they stopped working for the working man long ago. Now they are nothing more than a money laundering scheme for the Democratic party. They know given a choice many people are not going to agree to fund them knowing they are spending it on issues that literally have NOTHING to do with labor.

Patrick Semmens: “It’ll mean that teachers can now hold union officials accountable” - "“It allows them to say, ‘If you want my money, you have to earn it now.”’

NO MORE FREE RIDE FOR THE UNIONS!!!!

Had the UNIONs been doing what they were supposed to be doing they would have nothing to worry about. They made themselves a target by distributing UNION funds where they did not belong.

You want UNIONs the way they used to be? This is how you go about it. You make them EARN those dues.

Jim is an idiot if he does not understand his union supports the liberal left whack jobs with his dues.

The first item is that the Line is now larger than Base Maintenance. For years the Tulsa Union members treated the Line like a child stepping on them at every turn. It was not all of the mechanics, but mostly non-A&P's. The machinists did not care for the mechanic as they have always felt threatened. Money, but a cost of living with Tulsa being the base or 0%

Do you have any say who the Corporation you work for choses to donate money too? Have you agreed with all of the causes that AA supports?
