What Is Everyones Take On Utility?

Is it fair that they did not even get a proposal?

Will the IAM do anything for job protection?
comments?

The proposal is to outsource. The company don't really have a choice.

They have plenty of choices, the majority of the cleaning is all ready outsourced.

Guess you did not bother to check into that.

I've never been a union cheerleader, but this is one time when the union isn't to blame. The company has made it clear for years that they would like to cut the utility department. As with all groups, they are looking to outsource the jobs so that they can add or subtract from their numbers at will, without effecting any 'company' empoyees.
In fact, like mentioned in a previous reply, you can count on the union to do everything possible to keep them, as each body means more dues. As to what they would end up making, the union won't care, as long as they add to the body count.
As for anybody getting sold down the river... While I have friends in the utility department, my vote, as everyone's, will be for what's best for me. Sad, but true.

This is really a sad and SH#$# situation, see you on the other side . Good luck to all B)

There's an easier answer to this question.

Assume all utes are thrown out, on their a$$es, with not even a thank you.

Will U then even APPROACH profitability? No.

Do the same excercise with fleet. Profitable yet? No.

CWA? No.

You get the picture.

I'm afraid they'll be gone and I agree it should have happened back at merger (another brilliant mirror image and lets not change strategy from the beginning of the end). I do think that they should have been and should be offered positions (without penalty) into Fleet Service if they want the position. But we all know that this wont happen or it will be at first year scale.

I'm surprised U doesn't still have flight engineers as a protected classification....

US was the surviving carrier of the PI/US merger, you cant just take a classification out of a contract because of a merger, both parties fell under the US contract.

And Utility is not going to be gone, there is a Utility person who will be there for negotiations and two of the General Chairman who are mechanics were former Utility.

700 gave you the pay for SWA and I assume its correct. I do know we only have them in a couple of cities, Dalls, PHX and maybe HOU. Its a real small classification.
