What is everyones take on Utility?

Is it fair that they did not even get a proposal?

Will the IAM do anything for job protection?

I don't think it's fair that they didn't even get a proposal. However, I think the IAM looks upon them as their bastard step children; at least the mech's do. Why else are they always saying that they're suffering on behalf of the less skilled workers? I don't know if they'll do anything to try to protect them or not. They should; but who knows.

GOOD BYE>>>>>should have happened in 89

This is really an unfair topic that will only cause much anger. There are many areas that need to be changed. To pick on utility, one must look at all the other silly rules that other groups have that are inefficient...i.e...only agents hooking up a jetway while a mechanics naps on the tug watching it sit ten minutes for an overworked agent to hook it up. And let us not forget the high mechanic wages to push back airplanes. So see, there's alot out there. Whether one agrees or not, it only fuels the fire to add these topics. I mean, really, you don't actually think the airlines would have flight attendants if they weren't required by the govt.

Job Protection???? I'm sure they will find an Express job for them at $12 an hour somewhere!! The IAM will do all they can to keep them on as Dues Paying members, even if they will be earning 1/2 of what they used to. Maybe the IAM will even raise their dues after they slap them in the Face!

What goes around .... comes around, Husker. I'll be glad to see you get yours!

Utility is part of mechanic and related and have been under contract since 1949. And the proposal was to eliminate them.

All the work utility did use to be mechanic work that they did not want to do anymore.

Two of the General Chairman have Utility time, and there is going to be a utility person at negotiations.

i think the utility being eliminated is a result of the union starting to cannabilize itself....the larger group sacrificing the smaller group for their personal gains. say goodbye to the brotherhood of the union....everyone is at risk now of their union selling them or their group or stations out....watch and see how this will play out...the larger hubs and stations will want to keep their money and fellow members will suffer from their own union's decisions toward the hubs.......if u work in a smaller city be ready and get a lawyer...cuz if your union sells u out there may be a good lawsuit there for misrepresentation......

Utility will get to vote on any agreement. They are a sizable bloc of votes. Ignoring them greatly reduces the chances of any consensual settlement with Mechanics and related.

Knew it was coming ......They can get the planes cleaned for half the price.
Sad though really sad

VOTE STRIKE

I Agree.

Without drastic changes to the company proposal, U management will see some 1000 utility along with a very high percentage of mechanics voting against ratification.

This proposal in its present form will guarantee the loss of jobs for all of utility and most of the mechanics.

With the level of pay that mainline and even worse, Mid Atlantic mechanics are at already, it will not take long to find other work for close to the same pay out of aviation without the responsibility.

The same cannot be said of all groups on the property and if they wish to continue working under a "concessionary" contract for any amount of time, they better pray that the IAM can work something out before abrogation.

Finding work for close to the same pay will not come as easily to the higher paid group and if it comes to abrogation all will be looking for a new job, Even those who have already given so much.

No.

Almost every job on the property can be outsourced or done by someone at a cheaper rate. You have to do everything you possibly can to prevent the company from eliminating an entire work group like this, or your job will be next.
