UA + CO

Neither UA or CO wants to be the acquired. Kind of hard to have a consensual merger when no one wants to give up their identity. One or the other will have to be knocked down quite a bit in order for mgmt to be willing to consider being acquired.

And of course the owners of the company have to be convinced they will get more from the company by being acquired. CO's management has been able time and time again to convince its board that it is more valuable to them as an ongoing entity it was acquired. I don't think they will let up anytime soon.

A UA/CO merger is something for the chat boards but won't happen in reality.than if

You're premise is incorrect, although your logic is quite sound,

it is after the fact..

...Standby

Good luck to all concerned... ;)

And UAL had the last strike on the property how many years ago? Let's see, 21 years ago. Only scabs left on the property are very OLD scabs.

Wish that were so true...but the last one isn't scheduled to retire (unless age 60 changes) until:

Sep 2018!

DC

PS while most are gone there are several not scheduled to retire until the next decade.

Well it seems we have to wait and see what happens. I think CO is just waiting to see what happens to DL and or NW. I bet if NW and DL merged things would change in a hurry. Time will tell...

Here's a canary in the coalmine for ya:

I don't think the DOJ would approve a CO/UA merger if US/HP is still our codeshare partner. Look for the USAir codeshare to be cancelled before any merger talks happen, although it might be announced all in one swoop.

I believe that most airline employees see this as the wave of the future and will treat each other with more respect than has happened in the past. I also believe that everyone saw what happened over at AA/TWA and won't allow a staple like that one again either.

This potential merger would make UAL/CAL a powerhouse that would be very difficult for any others to compete against.

Deleted,

I think MY hypothetical, would prove your hypothetical wrong.

That being, if UA/CO "tied the knot", then you'd see a AA/NW "wedding"

AT that point, ALL BETS WOULD BE OFF !!

If EVER there was a good reason for the "ignore" feature, Bulscu is it. I used to think it was USA320pilot or WorldTraveler, but Bulscu takes the cake.

Talk about useless. At least USA320pilot and WorldTraveler occassionally post something interesting, though misguided. Can't even say that about Bulscu. What a waste of bandwidth.
