TWU negotiations.........what?

Did I miss something? What are these new concessions you claim the company wants from you? As I recall there were payouts on offer (scorned by most of you). There may have been some trade offs on productivity, but I don't recall the company asking for some of your paycheck.

And if you like the PUP payouts so much I'm sure corporate would be happy to pay you entirely in stock. What? You don't want the majority of your compensation to be at risk in the market?
[/quot
Majority of compensation??????

Give me a break...these guys are getting annual salaries of 3, 4,5, 6 hundred thousand a year...the PUPS are extra....

Maybe you don't read very well.. But i will repeat this for as I have for other pro management anti union posters here: I DO NOT WANT ANY STOCK IN THIS COMPANY..I WANT WHAT WAS TAKEN FROM ME AND I WANT TRADITIONAL PAY INCREASES... I ONLY CARE WHAT THE GREEDY EXECUTIVES GET SINCE $20,000 A YEAR WAS TAKEN FROM ME....

<_< -------- FrequentflyerCA,--- The Airline Industry Employee's have subsidized cheap fairs for so long that the General Public has come to believe they have a "God given right" to them!-------- And now that fuel prices are added to that burden, you expect us to be good little workers and pick up that extra expense without a whimper so you and your kind will not be inconvenienced!------ Well do I have news for you!!! It ain't gonna happen! -------And if the people in Washington don't get their heads out of their ( you know what!) This whole Industry is going to self district! ( Something those idiots that thought up "deregulation" didn't reckon with!) The only one left will be SouthWest, and sooner, or later, this fuel thing will catch up to them also! Besides, they can't fly you to Asia, or Europe! So that little chore will be given to the foreign Carriers!!! This Country has given away everything that once made it great in the name of "Capitalism". The reason we won WWII was that we "out produced" our Enemies! We can't do that today!!! Our Leader's, both Democrat, and Republican, in all their wisdom, have transformed us from a "Production oriented" Country, into a "Service oriented" Country! When was the last time you picked up something that didn't say "Made in China" on it?----- God help us!!!! Because the TWU/ AA won't, or can't! And Washington?------ Hell, they still won't admit that we're being raped!!!

You are so correct. The industry is in for a big change and you won't recognize it in a year. Unfortunately, the numbers of those still working at an airline is going to be greatly reduced. As long as we tolerate an inept goverment and unions, nothing will change. As far as Southwest goes, the article I read this morning about Southwest's hedge program that says they are 70% hedged through 2010. They have paused the program for the moment, waiting to see what is going to happen in the short term.

By the way, I also subsidized the low airfares by taking the layoff in 2005. That ended in 2008 when I turned down both my recalls to AA.

<_< -------Joe, you may be the smart one! There's a good chance you'd be layed off again this time around! I wonder how FrequentFlyerCA will feel when he discovers he has nowhere to spent all those miles???
Because if Arpy and Company don't start earning their money and get creative, this Airline is headed for bankruptcy!!!! It's not that the Employees won't bale them out this time, it's that we can't!!!!

<_< ------ It's a little ironic! It seems AA wants to save it's cake, and eat it too! This VBR doesn't address any of the ones you'd think they'd want to get reed of! The high Seniority people here at MCI! It'll take quit a bit more than this VBR, or a "stand in stead" to move them on down the road!----- Oh well! Where do I pick up my free TWU/AA walker???  What you say? They're not free!!! We'll have to negotiate them into our "next" Contract!

No question I would be laid off again. I could see that coming from a mile away. It was the best decision I ever made to not only leave the company but to get out of the industry. I was not going to let AA (or any other aviation company for that matter) control my life again.

<_< ------ It seems more, and more, people are voting with their feet! Something people outside the Industry just can't seem to understand! I don't have that luxury! Retirement is my next "Career Move!" ------ But that's just me! I'm glad you got out in time! Good luck to you!

The Negotiating committee is back in session and get ready for the "let the members vote on it" campaign by our union leaders. We will probably see the last company proposal voted on to be brought back to the membership by the end of the week. I am amazed how the company hands the TWU Int'l a proposal and it goes undisputed and even endorsed by telling the presidents to let the members decide on something our negotiating committee had nothing to do with! All that time, all that money, all those committee's, all those useless meetings and what we are voting on is a pure company proposal! This is the same as what happened in 2003 negotiations! How does this support representation by the TWU? Are we being represented or are we pawns in a big corporate chess game?

Oh we're getting 'Kinged' alright...like a baby seal on the beach.

Just for laughs, anyone have any idea what was in this 'comprehensive short term proposal' the union supposedly passed to the company two or so weeks ago?

The company is going to hand the same proposal it withdrew back to the TWU,minus those 5 and 3.5% 'payments' of course.

I'm sure Little Jimmy opted to give the company a break on those so-called payments. I might go for it if the company would pay the taxes and provide lunch.

Pawns in a corporate chess game, though? C'mon now - do you really believe our corporate twits have even that much respect for us? Even pawns have a function - we're no more than something they must deal with every so often.
