TUL 7 day coverage

I think it might be good for all of us if TUL, AFW, and MCIE had 24/7 coverage, then they would fight for shift differential and not so quick to give up holiday pay and sick time. I see no reason to shut down the bases during x-mas. The planes are still flying.
<_< -------Duke, let's take a reality check here!!! They're talking "RIF"! ------ The reason MCIE isn't on a 24/7 schedule is the simple fact that we don't have the numbers to cover it! ------ Now they're talking reducing those numbers further! ------- The conclusion, at least here at MCIE, is obvious!

Well if the Local Government funded or as you say invested in jobs there, then wouldn't there still be short enough manpower to cover 7 day coverage needed for industry standard turntimes.

But if the work was moved to TUL where the manpower exist but the workload doesn't dictate the 7 day coverage change, then wouldn't it make "business" sense to consolidate?

What if the MCI guys were given full seniority to come to Tulsa and work? How many would take that offer and move?

In other words what if everyone who wanted a job could have one but may have to move, and let those that don't want to move become the headcount reduction? That is what happened at Northwest in Atlanta sometime back, and don't think AA management wasn't watching that activity.

<_< ------ O.K., we're playing "What if". Keep in mind that we're talking an older work force. ------ If given full Seniority, yes, some would move. How many? That's hard to say, but, I believe, like myself, the majority would stay put and just retire. Remember, we're just talking approx. eight hundred people total.-------- as for seven day coverage here, there is one factor your not taking into consideration. That's work load! In a sense we're already working seven days. but the weekend crew is so small, that nothing major really gets done. And as for graveyard shift, I believe there is only one Inspector for the whole base!

800 AMT's? I show 665 on the seniority list of AMT's in MCIE.

I believe the reason the bases have not had a true 7 day coverage is because management has not wanted it in the bases. When Tulsa dabbled in in after 9/11 it was a fiasco because in overhaul you need engineering support along with all the other departments that are put in place to produce airplanes and parts. You cannot just run mechanics and crew chiefs and expect it to work. Once management decides to impliment a true 7 day operation the twu will be unable to stop it. twu can take credit for keeping it out but in reality it is management that has not wanted to commit. imho.
