Things That Have NOT Changed In The Airline Industry!

1. The operation always seems to go “Quite Wellâ€￾ over the weekends when the executives are out on the golf course.

2. The Holiday Season ALWAYS is a happy time for our passengers, employees, and the company. (Nothing can ever change that…not even the “ fluâ€￾.)

3. When many of us return from a month’s vacation, we learn that, in our absence, that was the finest month the company ever had.

;)

Hey CAPN, don't know about that #2. Used to be Christmas was my favorite, but you know with this seniority thing I have only had 2 christmas days off in the last 20 yrs. Never had I had a Christmas eve and day off yet. Now lets talk about laod factor ... Way Way understaffed for the amount of pgrs. I may be wrong here but 60% or 98% load factor doesn't affect flying too much. It kills understaffed agents and rampers.

Happy Holidays in advance before the excess dampens my spirits :)

Capt.(Randy),

I'm curious about #3.
By any chance, does this mean you and you BETTER HALF, have been gallivanting all over creation, this past month ??

If so, let me see if I can "pin down" some possibilities.

You,

Went wind surfing in Havana ?

Retraced "Lewis + Clarks" foot steps ?

Won the 'Texas 5 card hold em' contest in Vegas ?

Were apprehended/incarcerated for causing a "large" disturbance at a Nature resort ?

Pretended to be doing extra work around the homestead, spending an inordinate amount of time in the "shed"(where strong rumors persist that a large cache of malt beverages are hidden via a trap door under the riding mower)

or,
(And this one I've long suspected)

Spent a month(with Sally) in that tiki hut of yours, somewhere on an atoll, near the Easter Islands ?

Well ???????? <_< <_< <_<

NHBB,

Close, but no cigar. How about next to a wild bird sanctuary?

Bears,

All of your “possibilities†would have been more desirable than what really occurred.
We were, actually, in our hut (house) when the entire plumbing system turned the place into a houseboat. As a result, our record of seldom venturing outside of our zip code remains intact.

But that has nothing to do with aviation, so let me throw a few birds into the story. It is true that there is a wild life sanctuary just across the road from our place, as TWAnr mentioned. Quite often I spend time there admiring the bird’s flying skills and attempting to protect their home from the Hollywood film studios. Those birds make pilots look sick And to think, they’ve never taken a lesson. One day Momma bird just boots ‘em out of the nest and they fly like Lindberg. No recurrent training, no line checks, no physicals, no chief pilot to remind them to get a haircut. Yeah, I would have liked to have been a bird.

Back to “Things That Never Change†in the airline industry. ……. Item # 3.

It is true that for many years when returning from a month’s vacation, the company’s (TWA) records would indicate that same month as one of the finest of that year. That kinda hurt a little, but being a company man, I hesitated to request more vacation than the contract provided. I just figured they’d have to put up with me the other eleven months of each year.

Recently, however, after being away from duty for a number of months, information has surfaced indicating that during that same period another company has had an outstanding quarter, some sources even calling it profitable.

Should I be getting some sort of complex or take more vacations?

Really hope that you and TWAnr(or anyone here, for that matter) were'nt affected by the CA. fires, short of a little smoke.
