sherri shamblim to host a town hall meeting

I agree she SHOULD have the answers but we all know she doesn't...I don't want to waste my time rearranging my schedule and coming to her meeting just to listen to her stumble her way through without providing any straight answers as a result of her not knowing what is going on around here. She is very incompetent but as long as she's collecting a paycheck and is able to get away with it there is nothing we can do. She simply doesn't care and furthermore she just doesn't get it! Who does Shambles report to anyway? Who is her boss? I don't think anybody around here gets it except us frontline employees!

This is where, as employees, we need to take a botched Sherri Shambles Town Hall meeting to the attention of the top. If she is incapable of showing that she is knowledgeable of the department that she controls, if she cannot provide straightforward answers to inflight related questions from the 7000+ employees in the Flight Attendant ranks, then she does not need to be in her current position. Period.

If and when she decides to conduct a Town Hall meeting in Philadelphia (personally, I think she has canceled out of fear because she doesn't know anything), or any other base for that matter, we need to hold her to the standard that a Vice President of Inflight Services should be held to. If she cannot provide satisfactory answers or resolutions to the problems we face daily then she needs to be held accountable. For every question that a Flight Attendant asks (that is within reason and pertains to the job at hand) that she cannot provide an answer for, the FA asking the question needs to call her on this right there on the spot. "As Vice President of Inflight Services, I would expect you to be able to answer this question or resolve this issue without review."

If Sherri cannot answer to her workforce maybe we should ask her who can.

I agree that she canceled out of fear. Come on Sherri, we're just a bunch of stewardesses.

I'd personally like a one-on-one, Nightline -style interview with her.

I'll bet you're easier on the eyes than Ted Koppel.

I totally agree!

Sherri has very little wiggle room in her position. Ya want something changed? Well marketing better approve it or she cannot implement anything. She only can roam as far as the leash will allow and it's not far. I know she's a nice person but inside the position she is about as out of touch as anyone could possibly get. The scary part is the majority of upper management feels that their ideas are great and we are just complainers that don't really know much. Being in that damn Focus group though great to express your ideas is a waste of time. For ANYONE to think your going to gain anything or improve the work environment through it your sadly mistaken. I like to be an optimist but I also consider myself a realist as well. Sherri cannot answer the questions or truly agree as she doesn't want to step on the toes of those above her and P!$$ any of them off. We could have HAD the meeting and fired question after question but it would have been NO different than being in the Focus group. Pure BS. Management KNOWS the true state of our service and overall inflight experience and has NO plans to loosen the purse strings to allow for much.

Wow. She is one heck of an airline executive.

Ive seen a few of the town halls with her, and she duck & hid as quickly as possible or deviated responses / questions better than Bill Clinton on the stand back in the days of Monicagate.

I was a director / vp level at an airline for a while and everytime I made sure what I was walking into and had the answers, even if it had nothing to do with my department. I had a few questions from mechanics, and guess what, I was able to answer them because of the time I spent in our weekly executive meetings / board meetings, etc. Plus I could answer anything about my department, down to how many paper clips was on the desk of so-and-so.

Then again, in my company I was also out in the field assisting at the airports, not my job, but I wanted interation with our customers, I was out throwing bags, and 10 minutes later doing a tv interview.

I feel really bad for whomever appointed Miss Shamblins as an executive. I'm questioning if she's even worthy of management based on her responses.

If the buck doesn't stop with her, then where does it stop? WHO DOES KNOW what is going on in her department, cause it most certainly is NOT HER.. and people like her give people like ME, who IS IN MANAGEMENT, WHO ARE DECISION MAKERS, a BAD name!

My question was about how many times she has personally attended contract negotiations in the past 6 months and why? She is the representative of the company and delegates far to often. If it's important to the company to get a contract then why is the VP of Inflight absent from the table?
Then I wanted to ask about this all weather coat nonsense. It look like a flasher. Fits like a linebacker and would not keep anyone warm under 40 degrees! Why were we not offered a wool coat option? I know PHX you don't know what snow is but try YUL or YYZ or BUF in the blowing snow! Wax paper would keep me warmer and I would probably look better.
Sherri's solution would be to authorize East F/A's to use the hot water on the aircraft just before an overnight waiting for the crew van. Swiss Miss to be provided in the crew rooms as a courtesy. Sorry we can't get you a decent warm wool coat but Hot Chocolate is the next best thing!

Anyone else missing? You guys are much too easy on them. I think multiple emails (from several people, not 100 from EMB ;) ) would serve a very good purpose at this point in time. Include the canx meeting, rearranging schedules to attend, lack of appearant interest from YOUR inflight VP, no response to previous questions, continued delaying of implementing things (glassware on East, joint contract) etc. Ask them the questions in writing and INCLUDE THEM ALL. That way if one doesnt know just what the other is (or isnt) doing, they will now. Also gives all of them a chance to respond to the questions. (((Its also fun to watch the emails fly when someone doesnt have the answer....um, I'm passing this on to someone who might be able to answer you...)))

Like I told one of the girls at work that was biotching all the time. Have you written or talked to someone to get it brought to their attention? If so, you've done what you can do. If not, start typing. Will be waiting for the Q&A session to be posted.

Is that you NV?

Please! Preaching to the choir here. I email all the time. It's forwarded direct to [email protected]

Thats why you have to include more than 1 person. Very easy to dismiss or delete, but with ALL of them included, someones gotta reply. If not, resend. All of the questions I've sent have been answered. It takes a while sometimes or you have to explain to those in charge exactly what you are talking about in certain cases, but everything has been addressed. I dont always agree with their response and if they are trying to BS their way through, they get called on that too. Dont tell me its supposed to be this way when I know my job and know thats NOT what happens. Keep them honest. (or at least make them squirm a little bit.)
RE- not answering and you quit sending... Their little tactic worked didnt it? You going to let them get off that easy? Pushovers.

One of the stews I look up to says that all the time. No ice? No coffee? No arrival meals? He just smiles and says "Remember, you've been Shamblin-ated" ;)
tadjr: Trust me, I do. I forward copy and CC everyone but God. They even start fighting amongst themselves sometimes but in the end, it comes back "marketings position is" BLAH BLAH BLAH We are cheap. Thanks for taking the time to write us.
