this really sucks. nearly all the reserves are sitting in phl . no one is flying. something has got to be done about this stupid system we have here on the east side of ops. how unproductive and inefficient it is to pay these f/a's to sit around . something's got to give. it's scary because it looks like we are over staffed.

Slowest month yet for flying this year. I've only flown one trip so far for the month. With Thanksgiving coming I'm sure I'll be able to pick up at least one more trip.

It would make sense to offer more TWOP than to pay to have reserves just sitting around. I guess that's why we had the VPLA offered for Jan. 2006. If I'm remembering correctly there are also a little over 200 f/a leaving in Dec. Hopefully this will help and next year will be better.

yeah but remember tahitigirl that there are also a bunch of f/a's coming back in dec. i have a feeling that dec isn't going to be any better. i am just going crazy sittng here in my crashpad by the a/p . it's driving me insane. really would like a freakin beer.

The reserves in the bigger bases have more ETB trips available than the smaller bases that they can pick up. Are you saying you can't get an ETB trip to get a higher pay for the month than guarantee?

Any idea how many are coming back? My guess Dec. will be slow, do to no leave being offered.

I know it's hard this time of year when the weather gets cold and nasty to get out and enjoy the city. I remember spending my first "real" winter up in PIT and PHL and thinking I would never see the sun again. Boy, did I gain weight in those months.

Do you ever put yourself on quick call? I know a few CLT f/a who do this and they seem to stay busy.

About the beer. Just hang in there and try to make up for it when you go home!

I'm also sitting in this dump by the airport as well with my 21 hours that I only have due to having 6 days of vacation earlier this month. I have a seven day stretch on duty and I'm way down the list for the next 4 days out of my seven on duty. I am above 140 for a daily call on Thanksgiving. Though I would like to do an ETB trip on my days off, I have to sit here against my will. I need those days to go home. The ETB works for reserves if you can p/u a trip in your hometown or if you live where your based. If my other roomates come into my hotel room we share I'm gonna just lock myself in the bathroom. LOL.. The system we have really does need to change.

Be careful what you wish for. Keep complaining that you are getting paid for not working and there could be an invol furlough in your future.

Eveyone know's how it works around the holidays. The blockholders bulk up on hours to try and avoid flying on the holiday. Things will bust loose as we get close to Turkey Day.

That sounds like a good idea, but I didn't think it worked that way. For us pilot block-holders, if the block works a holiday, trying to "bulk up" is fruitless. If you're SCHEDULED to work the holiday, you WORK the holiday. Period. Same goes for weekends now, too.

Your forgetting about the "average" number of sick calls on those days.

At least you all are getting paid and have a minimum hour gaurantee and you all know the terms of the agreement and how the company schedules you.

And it is YOUR choice not to live in base and commute.

You can trip improve off a trip that goes out over Christmas..say you have a trip on the 23-26...you can improve to a trip touching the 23 and you would NOT have to work on the holiday, as oppose to that STUPID weekend rule where no matter if you trip improve or not, you will still have to work the weekend.

Please don't say that. There are alot of people who have been displaced and don't have a choice about commuting.

The ETB only works for those who don't commute or don't have a life outside the company. What's worse is between months when you end up sitting 10 to 13 days straight and working only a couple days.

I guess it wouldn't be so bad if it only lasted a year or two. But when you think of living your life sitting around hoping to hear from scheduling for 20 years it is depressing. When you are in a crash pad that looks worse than any college dorm and you are over the age of 40 it is depressing. In college you could at least have a BEER! B)

Tahiti,

You are right. The reserves system at U is the worst. There is no mvoing up unless folks quit, retire or get terminated. And there is no route expansion, so pretty much it stays status quo for 20-25 year reserve depending on your base. I do know we are at an overage and the company will not offer VPLOAs for Dec. They may just offer VPLOAs every month starting in Jan. just until they figure out how to handle this overage without paying out too much money. YOu know, they don't like to spend one red cent on labor.

If I stayed with the airline, I would have been looking at reserve around Jan. without a VPLOA.

Seems I'm not the only one sitting around wishing someone would call in sick. I'm on reserve in STL this month. I have flown a total of 5 days--one 3day and one 2day trip. I've not even had to sit standby at the airport yet this month. When I was based at DFW, on reserve months I usually did standby duty at the airport at least 2 and sometimes 3 times during the month.

One of the advantages (or disadvantages according to your point of view) of reserve in a fairly junior base is that people can't afford to call in sick on a whim. Most people show up to work and fly their trips. But, it does mean a lot of sitting around on reserve. Since 1900 last night, they have used exactly 1 reserve f/a.

Oh well, I guess I should be grateful that I only have to serve reserve 3 months per year. I do think that AA does the reserve thing better than any other airline.
