Planned Pilot sick-out on Friday

Sickout? What a bunch of BS. I have been working most of this week and I have not heard a thing. ....

Bingo. The only place we have heard about it is here (posted by West pilots) and from the CLT office from a supposed flyer.

I just got a CBS message from Bular, indicating that there are a large amount of sick calls for today and tomorrow and that a "Doctor's" note will be required.

Sqounk, the grievance is with the company...we are paid 17% less than are Western "brothern" and the company refuses to talk about parity.

Why does the company think there is a sickout and ALPA is completely mum about it?

If ALPA is aware and has not warned the pilots not to sick out then ALPA is complicit.

I don't know. I just looked at the 737 reserve lists and I don't see very many sick calls at all (2 in CLT, 1 in PHL, 1 in PIT and 0 in DCA).

That is 50% of the pilots on reserve.

Understood...that being said, my understanding is that there cannot be pay parity or contract negotiations until you resolve the seniority debacle. I agree east pilots got the shaft, but at this juncture your beef is with ALPA and not the company. If you disrupt the operation you will lose a boat load of support from your fellow employees who will be extremely PO'd if you wildcat. :angry2:

HELLO! Just because someone knows someone, who heard something, doesn't make it true.

This is obviously some AWA tool trying to discredit USALPA.

Here you go little green man, from ALPA

US Airways management has asserted that pilots have been “encouraged by crew room posters to participate in a ‘No Fly Day’ planned for September 21.â€￾

Information has been received that posters were labeled with the USAPA logo. The company threatened USAPA with legal action and financial penalties if it did not take action to inform pilots that it did not support any such job action and USAPA immediately issued a disclaimer on its web site acknowledging that such action “would be a violation of the Railway Labor Act and contrary to the interests of the pilot groupâ€￾.

The Company has requested that ALPA also inform pilots of the Association’s position. The alleged job actions about which the Company complains have not been requested and are not supported by the Air Line Pilots Association, Intl., for the simple reason that concerted job activity of the type described by management exposes you as an individual to serious legal risk and financial penalties, including discharge from employment at US Airways. It also exposes your union to injunctions, fines and other monetary claims.

This is to inform you that USAPA does not have the resources or authority to represent you should you be disciplined for participating in a so-called “No Fly Dayâ€￾ or any other job action intended to protest our existing workplace terms or conditions. Based on the substantial risk to you, ALPA encourages you not to engage in such activity.

I will accept your apology. :p

Your right about one thing. USAPA will not defend any pilot executing a sickout on 9/21. It's not our responsibility to defend pilots we don't represent yet. It's now plainly obvious that this action by design is meant to drag USAPA into a battle that is not our concern. It won't happen. No amount of supposedly "planted" evidence will pass muster with any court. In PHL, I know one person who was passing out flyers. And he's not a USAPA supporter.

Our only concern and plan of action is to seek a certification election. That is the only area in our scope and responsibility at the moment. ALPA's misguided attempts to place the blame for such an action on a challenger only demonstrates once again the credibility we carry within the pilot group.

BTW. Nice try. Next!

I've heard about this rumor for at least the last two weeks. On one of my previous trips, the captain said that he will definitely be sick, while the F/O (who is a union rep), said that he had not heard of any sick-out.

Subject: SICK CALLS

We are starting to experience an abnormally high number of sick calls for both today September 20th and already for tomorrow September 21st. The company has been made well aware of the proposed pilot actions scheduled for September 21st and will take any intentional disruptions to our flight schedule very seriously. Therefore, we have no choice but to ask that medical documentation be provided to your Chief Pilot for all sick calls effective immediately through September 21st.

Managing Director Flight Operations
