No More Pretzels

Imagine being exhausted from a trans-pacific flight and then being awakened out of a sound sleep by someone from First Class relieving them self on you and your family while on one of our spacious reconfigured Airbus.

I never did understand what those coat closets were for. Did they have little crescent moons on the door?

Let's see if that lasts if fuel prices stay this high or go even higher. While I'm not proud of what has happened to service on board many US flights....I'd rather have less service than be out of a job! I've flown other legacy carriers and quite honestly they are all the same with the exception of CO......but again I'm sure in time CO will be making some changes too! Unfortunately, Airlines anymore are just providing safe and convenient travel from point A to B.....the rest is just fluff.

hay gurl!

Well,we will see. After 9/11 Bethuene said, now is not the time to make cuts in service. They have the 2nd strongest balance sheet of the legacies now, so they are doing something right. I understand purchase of food/snacks in Y, but you have to make drastic changes for your premium customers. And, I wouldn't call US convenient. Despite their on-time numbers, they are an operational mess. I was on an award ticket recently, with priority luggage tags, and it took 45 minutes to get my luggage once I got to baggage claim. It was about an hour in total once we left the gate. That is unacceptable. Morale is in the toilet. A good F/A seems to be one that is not belligerent. It is a shame the company dislikes its employees and customers so much.

When I compare US service levels to other carriers, it is FC service and FC service on US is nowhere near AA and CO.

I buy revenue tickets on CO quite often to go home, you're right they do offer food for free in coach for now.....a sandwich, chips, and a piece of fruit. Don't get me wrong I like CO, however, the one problem I have with CO is that several of their planes I've been on all smell like urine. EWW....on several different occasions I've had to endure that gawd awful smell the entire flight, one of the A/C was a brand new 757-300 online for a couple of days only  What's up with that! I've heard that from other people who've flown them also. Not saying that their entire fleet is that way, but bad enough to have to experience it on several different trips! In the end it's all the same, nobody's perfect!

Hay Gurl!

I have been on over 50 CO flights this year and I have never noticed that...their planes are immaculate. I don't sit in Y though, so maybe the smell is for the people in the back of the bus.

This is yet another example of how a flawed business model causes stupid business decisions.

If the company is in such a precarious financial position that a 3 cent bag of pretzels per person, per flight places it in on the verge of financial ruin then something is wrong at the very top of the company.

Did you just come to this realization?

Things have gotten so much worse over time that I have to keep reminding myself that even though Wolf now seems like the yonder days of utopia, we really did once upon a time think he was perhaps the devil.

When you say "Metros" do you mean Public Transportation in major cities?

I can't speak for the Transportation in the land of "Dry Heat" but here on the East where the real action is the city bus /train drivers are glad to finish their shifts alive. So they don't much care about food. Perhaps a clarification?

"Metro" in DC is the subway and no food or drink is allowed. Amazingly people follow the rules. Use it a lot and have never seen any food or drink. Haven't used subways or busses in other cities so I'll take your word on the rest of them. :)

THIS IS BULLS**T...The only reason I'm fricking willing to put up bouncing around the system to get where I want is because of the Snack Mix AND NOW they're taking it away...I wonder who gave them the idea to eliminate $0.03 snacks.

What next? $1.00 for Sodas?
now this is a great idea 1.00 for soda 5.00 for a blanket...fairs are cheep fuel is high wages are low...get the yeild back!!! only FF'ers should not have to pay for the extra bag etc. RAISE FAIRS or pay for anything extra...This is a good move and less work...for the F/A... I say great news  damm "tid-bits" don't fit on the cart anyway...I can't get over f/a's that want to complane about having to do less work...YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! it's a brand new world get over it or pay for it... I think we should buy water in bulk like a 3 gal. bottle with a spout get the small cups back like the office water coooler cups and give that to pax in Y class...this way we could save on ice the cost and weight of all the soda cans...this would save a lot! and make the job very easy...I think we should still offer all service in first class this way you get what you PAY for...this is the BEST news from inflight in a long time way to go

Don't you see? They are gearing up for the f/a's to "Sell" stuff like we did before, cans of pringles, box of licorice, etc, etc. Using the credit card machine will bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars. If people don't get their preztels, they will shell out $3 for a can a pringles.

Maybe I took one too many happy pills today but I just don't see what the big deal is. Times are changing, the airline is not the same US Airways that we know, the economy has taken a downfall, DP is not customer service oriented, and mgmt is trying to make sure we don't go belly up. Oh and they want to line their silver pockets as well. DP already has stated numerous times that raising fares doesn't work so no matter what he isn't going to raise fares. It's coming down to nickel and diming everyone. I'm not thrilled with the idea but it's not enough to make me angry and I certainly am not surprised. We all knew this was coming. We all have a choice to be here so for those of us who choose to work at US, we might as well get used to this because things aren't going to get better any time soon. It is what it is. Let's not get our panties in a wad over this. It truly doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. We don't work for charity, we work for a business.

P.S. I hated cleaning up all those gd pretzel wrappers and crumbs anyway.
I thought you would get the BIG pix! GREAT post...BTW hose yer momma n them doin

In PHL on the Septa bus food and drink aren't allowed. I've never seen anyone eat or drink on there either, but of course I always sit up front.

Although NW doesn't serve pretzels either, they DO serve Pepsi products! I am so sick of everywhere I go when I fly of being offered Coke!! That's a personal preference of course but I am very glad to have my Mountain Dew's and Pepsi's :)
Oh I better wait - Not sure what products DL offers --- <_<

I don't mind if they have us selling pringles and toblerones. Just get rid of the cash and bring on the cashless system. It would make things so much easier all around.

I doesn't bother me that they are not serving the pretzels any longer. And many airlines don't serve any snack in coach either. It has been several year since NW stopped and starting selling snacks.

It is the attitude of Tempe. Two years ago they were bragging that that the snacks cost only $0.03 per bag, "what a deal"

Now they are telling us that the passengers are not worth $0.03!

And that I think is Piney's point as well. It not the loss of the snack, it is how they convey the message. They need to keep shut up more often especially where they are being cheap.

Other posters are also correct, they need PR 101. as well.

Again, managing expectations and putting a spin on it.

Due to the high cost of fuel, we're doing everything we can to keep airfares low for those who just want transportation, however, if you'd like a little extra with your flight, we'll still provide those extras for a fee for those customers who want them.
To get the Best Deal- Book on the internet, check only 1 bag, bring a snack.

Gimme a break..... It wasn't two years ago, first of all, it was a few months back in a Crew News Session where they said they spend ~.03 per bag of pretzels. They also said that they would *like* to offer better complimentary snacks in coach, but that would be too costly (incase you want the whole story, instead of the part that supports your ridiculous rant)...Add that up. Add to the fact that airlines are desperate to recover as much of $ from the soaring cost of fuel as they can. What are you not getting? You think they are pulling your precious 4 pretzels per bag to line their pockets with cold hard cash?

Where are they telling you that you are not worth .03? Were you a drama major in college? Ignored by your mother? You must be kidding.....
