No More Pretzels

Why don't they just raise fares by $.05 per person to offset the $.03 per bag of pretzels + the weight of all of those pretzels?!

Raise the fares! Save the pretzels!

Just stop at the local convience store and pick up one of those huge bags of popcorn before you fly!!! You will become an instant hit among the other passengers, pass it around!!!!!

Seriously, the company is become somewhat of a joke!!! Ala Carte Airlines...there not kidding!!!

Who cares? They suck anyway, and there are only like three in each bag. Why bother; they're like eating sawdust.

Now - the smokehouse almonds and honey cashews on the old Piedmont -- THOSE were snacks. But I bet they cost more than three cents/bag nowadays.

Maybe I took one too many happy pills today but I just don't see what the big deal is. Times are changing, the airline is not the same US Airways that we know, the economy has taken a downfall, DP is not customer service oriented, and mgmt is trying to make sure we don't go belly up. Oh and they want to line their silver pockets as well. DP already has stated numerous times that raising fares doesn't work so no matter what he isn't going to raise fares. It's coming down to nickel and diming everyone. I'm not thrilled with the idea but it's not enough to make me angry and I certainly am not surprised. We all knew this was coming. We all have a choice to be here so for those of us who choose to work at US, we might as well get used to this because things aren't going to get better any time soon. It is what it is. Let's not get our panties in a wad over this. It truly doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. We don't work for charity, we work for a business.

P.S. I hated cleaning up all those gd pretzel wrappers and crumbs anyway.

I am about as customer friendly as I can possibly be and LOVE to provide my customers with a good product,(US1YFARE will jump on that). While I don't totally agree with the removal I don't see it as a big deal. They are nasty anyway. What I don't understand and I have asked this before is WHY are airlines held to a different standard than the train or bus? I just DO NOT see the difference. One is surface travel, the other rails and the plane in the air. NOTHING and I repeat NOTHING is free on the train or at a rest stop on the bus yet airlines are to give all the coach customers complimentary soda, juice etc.? With fuel where it is and the MAJORITY of coach tickets being sold as low as they are I hope pillows and blankets go next. I HATE folding or touching those damn things as much as Flightchic likes cleaning pretzel wrappers and crumbs. Fuel is at a ridiculous price and fares are at ridiculously LOW levels. Something has gotta give until ALL the airlines collectively raise fares. I guess until the darling southwest raises fares the rest will have to nickel and dime. Not to let the question get lost but WHY are airlines held to a different standard of service and offerings than the train or bus? Hmmmm

I guess we're all still living in the PanAm, Eastern, Piedmont, and Air West times sadly...You're right we need to swallow and move on, this is a whole different industry from back then in the Good ole Days. (For the record...the Bus/Trains back then wasn't that good either nowadays too).

Right now some Airline exec I'm sure is trying to figure out how to fly passengers with no services which includes no pilots ,no flight attendents, no baggage workers no ticket agent no mechanics store clerks but still have there contracts to provide them mega millions all while charging bargin basement prices of the 1980's.

Well said. My sentiments exactly! They should get rid of those nasty pillows and blankets ASAP! It is so unsanitary. Yuck! I also don't understand why we should be held to a higher standard than buses or trains. These aren't the old days... Get over it! Flying is a mode of transportation and free drinks and snacks are a nice gesture but if airlines need to cut costs why not take them off or charge for them. People don't get upset when they have to purchase drinks on a train so why should airlines be any different? Why the sense of entitlement? Is NOT getting a complimentary drink really that big of a deal? I don't think it is.

you know i LOVE you, FlightChic...but, at the rate of $0.03 per bag, pretzels are a negligible expense. and, in this case, they are a cost cutting excuse for an abject lack of creativity in raising primary revenues.

ancillary revenues have never catapulted a failing business model into profitability...*cough* skybus...*cough*

we all know what's next...and, to be honest, i'd rather pick up pretzel bags than fart around for change for a bag of "premium" (if the wine selection is any indication) sam's choice peanuts.

This may be the issue that finally unites east and west! Get rid of the freebies and start pricing the product in line with costs!
