<_< ----- In fact, I've heard they're having a hard time scrounging up enough people to work the North American "C" check coming in to MCI shortly. They say they're short at least eight Inspectors, and are talking to the Union to make "temporary" Inspectors from those who have been reduced within the last two years. I'd be surprised if this floats, even with the TWU!
I think that over the next few years the company is going to find it harder and harder to scrounge up people. Sure they may get their concessionary contract because the guys are so desperate but they've already exhausted the 300 guys on the recall list for NY1, they got less than 20 to return, and a large percentage have their transfers in to Dallas and other stations. And even if they do get enough to show up, getting them to produce is another story.
Patience, people patience. If the company accepts the June sellout in November we must vote "NO". We've weathered this for so long it would be a shame to sell out now. The company has already revealed that they have more work than they can handle for the next two years and the TIMCOs etc are already having trouble finding enough people to handle what they have. If the FAA reauthorization act passes it could also help our bargaining position.
We are #5 in pay, this agreement will put us at the bottom before it runs its course. Continental is in negotiations now, United comes up in December, both are IBT. Historically they are more agressive, the IBT usually tries to bring all their members under similar terms and they also represent UPS mechanics who are tops in the industry, they are even above SWA(who used to be IBT). Their non-pay proposals at Continental are way, way better than anything we ever asked for and they have to prove to the mechanics at UAL that they are better than AMFA or UAL will give them the boot like they did to both the IAM and AMFA. Time is on our side. I know we are hungry but we shouldn't sell the field for the seed.
