M and R negotiations

Las is still protected, it just has less mechanics. That sucks, I know, but still a protected station. Same goes for pit hmv, it'll be there but they could only have 50 mechanics if they want. The contract language has more holes than Swiss cheese, but I suppose it's better than giving up some scope for a couple holidays and 100% sick pay. You seem to have blinders on about the teamsters the same way 700 has them on regarding the IAM.

I was wrong LAS is still protected for what it is.
I know LAS is not a HUB anymore and was told it’s not a protected station so I called in to check to see if they are or if they have lost that too and was told by the union that they are still protected but can be cut down or let’s say DISPLACED down to min to run 3 shifts, around 15 AMTs.
LAS was a HUB with a little over 100 AMT’s down to 42 at this time and can be cut to as low as 15 or so.
I don’t see the protected station language in the contract doing much good for the 90 or so AMT’s other than they will have a job just DISPLACED.

I don't like some of the things the IBT does like the taxi / tow BS at UAL but I bet we want be in the low as dirt wages with the IBT or AMFA.

I will be the first one to start the card drive to kick their butt's to the curb if they are voted in and do not do the job I pay them for just like the IAM now...
As it is now I pay dues for a union that has lost its understanding of who they work for and a contract that is as you say full of holes.
As I see it the IAM has done to little to late but I hope they can get a good contract with stronger scoop before the cards get in. It’s the only way to save their butt. Even I would have to rethink my vote.

On a note I will be in the IAM informational picket at my station. As a union member it is my responsibility no matter how I feel about the union.

Have a good one blue collar

FACT LAS is no longer a HUB or a PROTECTED STATION so ask the 40 or more AMT's and their families in LAS who have been DISPLACED due to operational needs and what they think of the IAM protected station language. Ask MOC in PIT how safe they feel being in a IAM protected station, For that fact any IAM protected station in a MERGER (an event or effect that cannot be reasonably anticipated or controlled)(the final outcome or determination of a legal action.)is not safe do to Operational needs of the NEW Airline.
Parker could not have reasonably anticipated who US Airways was going to merge with at the time of the contract, ie UAL/DEL/CAL.

Have a good one got to go read my comic book.
I don't know where you have been for the last 25 years or so but no station is really protected forever. There are Line Stations that USAirways and the IAM agreed to Maintain Staffing at with the last CBA and then 7 more at the Companies discretion. There have been dozens of stations that have lost staffing over the years, too many to remember. That is the way it goes in the Airline Industry. If you don't like the job go find another one you think is more stable. Enough already about LAS !!

from Al Hemenway's Letter to the Board of Directors dated 10 Apr 2013: in an attempt to work with the lAM and help the union reach an
agreement, the Company suggested three alternative approaches to conclude negotiations:
•• A five-year, affordable collective bargaining agreement. This is the approach taken by
the AFA in completing the recently ratified collective bargaining agreement for the US
Airways flight attendants.
.• A four-way (with American and the TWU) negotiation of ajoint collective bargaining
agreement (JCBA). This is the approach taken by USAPA and APA in completing
the recently ratified MOU agreement for the American and US Airways pilots
" A two-year agreement. This would allow US Airways to offer immediate contract
improvements to lAM members, eliminate the lAM demanded future year pay increases
that are not affordable for US Airways on a standalone basis, allow future
improvements to be negotiated by the New American Airlines as part of a JCBA after
the merger is completed, and allow the lAM to reopen negotiations in the near term in
the unlikely circumstance the merger is not consummated.

from Al's letter to BOD. IAM's proposals:

"For instance, the Union's comprehensive proposals include a seven percenf pay
increase effective on ratification and another three percent increase in September 2013 (for all practical purposes an immediate 10.2 percent pay increase) followed by annual three percent increases that would continue even after the contract became amendable.
The lAM proposal would also increase license premiums by another 28.6 percent,
resulting in wage, license and longevitv pay for top-ot-scale us Airways mechanics
being higher than for their counterparts working at United, Continental or American and higher than the wage, license ..and longevity average of United, Continental, Americanand Delta Air Lines combined."

That info was in a letter just released as response to a request by the Union to be released from negotiations due to the impass.....from the head of mediation I believe.....If I read it correctly their request was denied..

Where are you getting this info?
The letter was addressed to the NMB. It was USAirways response to the NMB so that negotiations could proceed and request to deny the IAM's request for release. Apparently the Company doesn't think M & R doesn't deserve the 7.2 now and another 3 percent effective Sept 2013 as well as a bump in License pay to about $4.50-$5/ hr.

Another "Stupid" mailing from the IAM today.......Big post card with the numbers 44 to 1 written on it with reference to Parkers 44% raise vs the 1% Parker offered the M&R...First Class Mail....Thinking most of the members know they are getting Sc**wed right now....we don't need a card to remind us!!! It was suggested to the Union that they take out a full page ad in USA Today to educate the public on the issues...."to expensive"!!! Media Day would have been perfect....but what do we know...Tell me again why I should choose the IAM???

Every time i get one of those iam "post cards" in my mail box i think to my self.....is that the best they can do?

Have to agree with you on that....thinking the IAM's resources and assets could be directed in a little better way. No need to further educate us.....we are beyond help!!!
