IMHO,
The main advantage of LUV is it's ability to be nimble.
Fly a route and dump it if it's not profitable.
Don't make the same mistakes that the legacies have made with unions mandating routes, maintenance, bases, and head count.

If AMFA continues to be the log jam in mergers and acquisitions, that will leave LUV at a disadvantage to be 'nimble' in the market place. Drag this out too long and LUV may not take advantage of future opportunities knowing the fight with AMFA will be too expensive/painful.
Concentrate on pay and benefits.
LUV has great people and a great franchise, just don't screw it up.

Take Care,

Yes, I can see how this post slams AMFA and SWA...NOT!

All your posts here seem to lecture SWA AMFA on what we need to do in your humble opinion.
You throw around that since you were once AMFA, then you know how we should do everything.
But you fail to see that your fantasy view of AMFA is not reality.
We are AMFA, Amfa national works for us.
They do not tell us what to do.
Because of the AMFA system, we are able to control our own future.

And your post was also ridiculous.
SWA will not stop any mergers or acquisitions because we mechanics stood up for ourselves.
On the contrary, they may next time consider our positions more and give us the same support shown our pilots before the next buyout.

Yes, you are correct, this is how it works.
No one can move into a station unless there is a job to be filled.
No open jobs, no movement.
Unless some jobs were abolished. then the company is required to create other position elsewhere and the affected mechanics would use there senority to carry them where they can.
But under our contract no one can be layed off while the company is outsourcing work. all that work would have to come back in house before a single layoff.
We have this protection in our contract. This is not the LOA protection. It is our contract language.
You do not have this protection.
Not until us schoolgirls allow you to join us on our contract.
Therefor if any layoffs are needed before there is a joint CBA,
then the Airtran mechanics are the only ones vunerable.

See you on the playground.

I think it's best left in an arbitrator's ruling. Given the company history layoff's have a low percentage chance of happening. The opposite looks like it will happen more work and hiring of new employees. To work along side SWA mechanics and the AT mechanics being absorbed into the company. If the ruling is Dovetailed seniority the AT mechanics would be diluted into SWA with little effect. If stations are beefed up to compensate for all the extra work. There will be plenty of premium shifts and days off available.

Then we could all play on the playground in peace and harmony.

LOL, yeah good luck with that! Make sure the rest of your brothers want to take the long road! There are several AT mechs that came here and were sent back , where do they go to play at........... Your posts are definetly entertaining!, The comparison of VJ's purchase of AT , to the current situation is a hoot! Thanks for the laughs!!

We SWA mechanics who have taken the time to post here, have been explaining exactly what will happen if there is an arbitration ruling of dove tail.
There will be no peace on harmony.
It will be all out war and permanent division

That is fact.

Either:
1. You don't understand what we can and are prepared to do. Or
2. You don't believe we are prepared and ready to do it. Or
3. You are not an Airtran mechanic and want an all out war on these guys and the division it will bring. Or
4. Worst of all for everyone, you represent a majority of AT and are irrational and ready to scuttle the best career opportunity ever happened to drop into your lap by no effort from you.

I am beginning to think it is #3.

Attention all Airtran mech's:

The arbitrator will use the offers made in a decision so you've already lost DOH! You have already shown you would give up some and that WILL be taken into consideration.

Me? I want to drag it out forever! You had an opportunity to get an instant pay raise (quite large too) with a pile of handsome benefits but you wanted MORE! GREED is alive and it's called Airtran!

With fuel prices going up the future of that POS 717 looks bleak! Oh and lest we forget when GK #### cans them we won't need all of those mechanics to support them! BYE! How does the fuel price effect the 717, I'll tell you. It makes NO common sense as well as business sense to fly a plane that burns valuable fuel and only haul 80 people! It's a no brainer, 717 is toast!

I make good money with GREAT benefits and a secure future with a solid company. YOU had and have your chance but you greedy SOB'S want it all! Go for it! I welcome the fight! I worked and fought with my fellow SWA AMT's to get us where we are and I WON'T give it up and away without a fight! Division forever is what we will have with this fight and if you're comfortable with being considered a POS by over 1700 mech's then fine, go for it. Might think about this, if your lead is an SWA mech, YOU'RE SCREWED!

I have had it with the attitude of a few Airtran folks on this board who THINK they deserve it all! GO TO HELL!

To add to the reduced capacity of the 717 portion of this post, we are adding rows in our classic and NG fleet in order to capitalize on revenue! I too am getting tired of what I percieve to be the minority AT guys on this forum, and the fact that they somehow deserve any of what weve negotiated , let alone all of it and there senority to boot. I know there are some hard line guys at SWA who are not exactly reasonable, Im starting to see why. As far as Im concerned these guys can wait till the cows come home , and when they do finally come over the leads will welcome them accordingly.

Amen brother! I'm tearing up :)

Amen brother! I'm tearing up :)

Whether 4 years is fair or not, and for who varies widley by where you are. What I will say is, most everyone I talk to system wide feels that 4 years for bidding is the least they would be comfortable accepting. In other words if 4 years goes by the wayside they are also comfortable waiting as long as it takes and letting things "sort" themselves out later..... Soooo, I guess the ball is in AT MX's court. Well not exactly , the ball is in the IBT's court, and based on what happens at HA today, may not get to the floor... Waht a joke. I am so glad we ditched them when we did.

Hello.
Actually they did get a raise ...don't quite remember what it was..
and i would take the same deal as the fa's got in a heartbeat!!! 2.5 yrs no problem!!!!

The reason you dont remember is because it wasnt memorable.... Nearly 45% increase with all the bells and whistles , is memorable. You should take the FA's deal, I think inflight would suit you well!

Oh damn AMEN again! YOU are correct, if it was memorable...well they would have remembered!

As far as 4 years, yes, I think this has a chance of passing, at least on SWA side. This, my opinion, is the lowest SWA mechanics will go and to be honest I think about the fairest.

Airtran mechanics have an opportunity to greatly improve their life style and the security of their family but it's their choice, balls in their court! IBT thinks differently then it's up to YOU to make them see YOUR way! THEY WORK FOR YOU!

I tried to explain that we have way more protection in our AMFA contract than the FAs have in theirs.
If we get rid of the 717s or any reduction in aircraft, then FAs will be let go.

Not so for any mechanics under our contract. All outsourcing would have to return in house before a single AMFA represented mechanic could be let go.
Because of these very superior protections to the FAs, we are asking for more than the 2.5 years that our FAs got to receive the contract protections we fought hard for.

If they want to be FAs and be subject to layoff at the drop of a hat, fine.
If they want the solid protection our contract provides then it will be 4 years.

What amazes me is that some people who post here and say they are Airtran, fail to recognize that they are the most vulnerable to layoff while they are still under their contract.
