Helicopter Engineers & Pilot Association

Don't get Me wrong,I have no problem with an association, but You will have to show Me how it will have the power to clean up the industry before My $200.00 gets thrown into the pot.

Skids Up

May be I can clarify things a little for you.

Let me tell you that I know the real names of exactly two people who post to this forum.
Many of us prefer to remain anonymous for a various number of reasons. Personally, mine is because I work for a company that has shown in the past that it takes a very negative view of its employees who get involved in employee organisations of any form. For some of us, being known could mean either being posted to the company's least desireable base or, in the worst case, losing our jobs through some trumped up excuse. Those people who have joined the Association will not be hiding behind 'nicknames' but one cannot expect that the list of memebers will be available to non-members.

However, many of us have already sent in our names and addresses to be included when Blackmac applies for the registration of the Association. As far as the names and addresses as to who is involved in the Association that will surely come once the Association is registered.

Yes, people are talking about sending money - myself included- but that is only from those who are keen to help Don set this thing up and show our sincerity. If you read back through the posts you will see that the association is not at the point yet of being able to collect membership fees. Don has posted his address in a previous post. All the things that you ask will come in time, and before you are asked to contribute financially.

I suggest you read back through this thread carefully as there are some things that you may of missed that may better explain to you how things are being set up.

Elvis.
You say that you are not prepared to join the Association until it can tell you that it can guarantee to change things for the industry.

I don't know whether you are a pilot, an engineer, or neither, but if you are a pilot I wonder if when you took your training, and spent those many thousands of hard-earned dollars, you had a guaranteed job.

I suggest that the risk you are taking here with your two hundred dollars is one heck of a lot less that the vast majority of pilots take when they sign up for their training.

Think about it. What you ask is impossible. You cannot expect Don, or anyone who starts this Association, to go to TC, Labour Canada and the operators and get guarantees that all we ask will be immediately given.
As the old saying goes "The only sure things in life are death and taxes."

Take a chance guys. This just may be worthwhile.

Blackbeard; I also prefer to remain anonymous for the same reasons as Yourself (FYI I am an engineer with 30+ years in the industry)
Ijust feel at the present time My $ will remain in My retirement fund, not in chasing the impossible dream an association is going to change the word that we work in.

:elvis: :elvis:

while that's disappointing, this professional association will obviously need a lot more people with considerably longer attention spans/commitment to make this thing fly for everyone's benefit!

Hilicopper:

It is not unusual to have a percentage of any group with ideas that differ from the rest of the group.

There are two ways to address shortcomings in the aviation employment arena.

(1) Do nothing

(2) Make a group effort to improve your lot.

That is all there is to this puzzle.

Would you join an association to represent your interests with the regulatory bodies and set safety and employment standards to be adhered to by the companies you are employed with. By-laws would be established, a corporate structure set up.
THAT WAS THE ORIGINAL QUESTION ASKED AND THAT BASICALLY IS WHAT THE ASSCOIATION WOULD BE ABOUT. THAT OF COURSE IS NOT SET IN STONE AND CAN BE CHANGED AT ANYTIME BY A QUORUM IN THE ASSOCIATION.

ASSOCIATION MONIES CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE SPENT BY ME OR ANYBODY ELSE UNLESS A BUDGET IS PRESENTED TO THE BOARD AND THE CHEQUES WILL REQUIRE TWO SIGNATURES.

AS WAS SUGGESTED BY OTHER FUTURE MEMBERS, READ ALL THE THREADS AND TAKE IT FROM THERE.

I WILL SAY AGAIN, THE ASSOCIATION IS NOT REGISTERED AS YET AND I CANNOT DEPOSIT ANY CHEQUES UNDER THE ASSOC. NAME UNTIL IT IS REGISTERED.

SO, IF AND WHEN THE WEB PAGE IS SET UP THRU CAaviation AND AN APPLICATION FORM IS SET UP, TRY AND KEEP THINGS ON A POSITIVE NOTE.

ELVIS, BEHIND DOOR 3 THE REAL ONE.

MAGSEAL, IF YOU ARE SO ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THE ASSOC, WHY NOT BECOME A DIRECTOR ON BEHALF OF THE AME'S AND THINK POSITIVE.

FOR YOUR FURTHER ENLIGHTMENT, ONCE THE THE ASSOCIATION IS FORMED AND A BOARD OF DIRECTORS IS SET UP, YOU CAN ALWAYS VOTE IN SOMEBODY ELSE TO REPLACE ME, SO WHAT HAVE YOU GOT TO LOSE.

:p :D

I might just take you up on that.

I don't have blinders on, and I don't look in only one direction...

and please refrain from yelling, it looks bad. I can only imagine how a meeting would go with employers when the interim board member can't keep his cool.

Too bad some have already lost interest....I sure haven't

These threads are getting lots of views and some good input....let's keep the momentum going...

Can you PM me with the particulars for sending in my $200.

Thanks

I will wait for Your web site with a little clearer picture of the standards and take it from there.

For MagSeal and all the others that think I am shouting, I am really sorry, I raised a large family and at one time they were all two year olds and I got tired of repeating the same old, same old and eventually would shout at them to get my point across, then they finally understood.

I hope for the sake of your customers you have passed the second year stage.

If you really want to keep up the personal attack to myself, go ahead.

You have the privilage of knowing who I am, but I could care less who you are and as for your friends knowing me, I would say thats a pile of BS that you are famous for. The only people that I knew or did know in Falling-star land was Rudy Palledina, Tony Brown, Jack Pearson and of course Mike Lavoy and his limp wristed friend De-Queerios.
The last two are about the only two that would have anything negative to say.

If you think I can't find out who you are you are sadly mistaken.

So, either put up or keep your snide remarks to your self.

Most people try to be constructive, not destructive.

Blackmac ; We agree on a couple of things 1 Jack was a good friend and a mentor for 30 yrs and 2 Mikey was no friend of mine.

:elvis: :elvis:

For what its worth, some I think are reading more into this than implied...

The western ame association and the maratime ame association do not get free tools for there members...

HAC does not get lower insurance rates or higher tarrif's for there members...

Do not expect this group to solve your extended tour problems or your minimal wage expectations or working conditions!

Let things unfold and see where its leads! Might be good - might be bad. Who knows till it has a chance!

Thanks for the comments VR and things are going along smoothly except that we have to wait for some feed back from Industry Canada on holding meetings, voting, etc. by e-mail and fax. The NPO is not the same as an ordinary Corporation and the rules are made as required by the government. Kyle is setting up a secure site thru CAaviation which will have the initial by-laws included, as soon as they are approved.

I am still hoping for the new year or sooner.

Cheers, Don

It might not be a bad idea....but do you really think we have a problem with standards in the industry? I think it's pretty telling that only 56 of the thousands on the site felt there was an issue requiring support from a union or prof organization body. I can also tell you that I have to pay several hundred dollars a year to stay registered in a prof association that does nothing for me at all...but I must pay if I want to keep the designation.
